Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 108, Combat Power Measurement Unit

Translator: Silavin

Lu Fan still had an impression of Zhao Shengming, who presided over the freshmen orientation ceremony.

However, since the orientation ceremony, because Lu Fan did not attend any Mage specialised courses, he basically had not encountered Zhao Shengming again.

Thus, Zhao Shengming looking for him really surprised him.

After thinking for a moment, Lu Fan told Han Ke and the others to go back to the villa first, and he would return for dinner after meeting with Vice Principal Zhao.

So the two groups parted ways at the Dungeon Hall, with Lu Fan following Gu Han to Zhao Shengming’s office.

On the way, Lu Fan tentatively asked Gu Han what Vice Principal Zhao wanted to see him for. Gu Han frowned, saying she was not quite sure about this either but it seemed to be related to the National Trial Secret Realm. As for the specifics, Gu Han, as a teacher from the admissions office, did not know due to her low rank.

After hearing this, Lu Fan was puzzled.

[Come to think of it, Dragon Capital University had indeed entrusted the National Trial Secret Realm entry ticket to me. But, I had just arrived at Dragon Capital University and had not even undergone my Second Profession Change. I haven’t even gone through the freshmen exam yet. The University also had not treated me too differently from the other students…]

Lu Fan originally thought that after the freshmen exam, the University would approach him about this matter to see how to prepare him for the National Trial.

[There should still be about five months until the official opening of the National Trial Secret Realm. This means there is plenty of time. Why would they look for me now because of the National Trial?] Lu Fan could not figure it out, so he decided not to think about it. [Anyway, everything would become clear after meeting the Vice Principal.]

Soon, Gu Han brought Lu Fan to Zhao Shengming’s office. After knocking on the door, Zhao Shengming’s voice came from inside, “Come in!”

Gu Han respectfully led Lu Fan into the office. The office was very ordinary, with Zhao Shengming currently sitting behind his desk, reviewing a pile of documents.

What surprised Lu Fan was that there was another familiar face here, Hong Wu.

At this moment, Hong Wu was by the file cabinet, seemingly tidying up things and doing some odd jobs.

Seeing Lu Fan enter, Hong Wu was stunned. His face became particularly red out of embarrassment. He turned his head away, as if not wanting Lu Fan to see him.

Lu Fan found it very strange that Hong Wu would be in such a place, but because this was an office, Lu Fan did not break any etiquette by speaking directly to someone else.

After Gu Han brought Lu Fan into the office, she made a slight bow and politely said, “Vice Principal Zhao, Lu Fan is here.”

“Good.” Zhao Shengming looked up, glanced at the two of them, then said to Gu Han, “It’s fine now that Lu Fan is here, you can go back.”

After a pause, Zhao Shengming looked at Hong Wu and said, “You can go too. No need to work anymore. Go to the Student Affairs Department later, they’ll transfer the points to your identity card.”

“Understood.” Gu Han nodded and then left.

Hong Wu also put down what he was holding and nodded to Zhao Shengming, saying, “Okay. Thank you, Vice Principal Zhao.”

After saying this, he also left the office, closing the door behind him.

Hearing Vice Principal Zhao mention points, Lu Fan suddenly remembered.

He seemed to have heard that Hong Wu had been having a tough time over the past half month.

During this one-month preparation period for the freshmen exam, Lu Fan, Qin Qiu, and the others had been constantly clearing Dungeon Instances and attending classes. They did not feel much pressure, but the other freshmen certainly were not as carefree.

It was said that at first, everyone was just consuming their granted points to purchase weapons, equipment, potions, and Dungeon Instances.

But later, everyone discovered that the granted points were far from enough!

Ordinary Dungeon Instance required 5 points to clear just once, not to mention the better Dungeon Instances, which required even more points.

For example, the Poison Spider Forest required 45 points to clear once.

Lu Fan and Jian Ying originally had high granted points from the start, so they did not feel much when spending. However, for people like Qin Qiu and Tao Xiaoman, their points were used up in just a few days.

Fortunately, Han Ke often sold her Attribute Enhancement Meals at the school’s auction house, which were exchanged for many points. With some assistance from Lu Fan and Jian Ying, they could afford the cost for everyone to clear the Poison Spider Forest at least once each day.

With Han Ke, the Enchanted Cook that could literally turn stone to gold, everyone’s earning of points were barely enough to keep pace with their consumption, let alone others.

Soon, as points became scarce, everyone suddenly remembered the 200 points Lu Fan had easily taken from Hong Wu at the orientation ceremony.

It seemed that sparing and betting was a good way to obtain points.

Thus, chaos broke out among the Dragon Capital University freshmen, with point betting and sparring frequently taking place.

This led to the point rankings of all students being frantically stirred like a pot of water.

The strong naturally relied on seizing others’ points, making their own amount of points grow, while the weak could only hand over their points.

To prevent their points from being snatched, many people found teammates and formed regular teams.

After this period of chaos, the ranking for the freshmen had basically stabilised in recent days.

Among the original top 30 strongest, at least ten lost their seats, replaced by new stronger Players.

At the same time, some freshmen made a name for themselves during this chaotic period.

For example, Chen Tianzi.

He was originally ranked 18th in terms of granted points, but now, by teaming up with Jin Zhu for PvP matches, he had overthrown several higher ranked Players. He was currently ranked in the 7th place, gaining immense popularity.

Of course, while some people were living comfortably, others were having a miserable time.

Hong Wu was one of those having a rather miserable time.

It was said that after being one-shotted by Lu Fan, Hong Wu became very low-key and no longer sought to spar with others, only focusing on quietly developing himself.

But at this time, Chen Tianzi suddenly made a high-profile challenge to Hong Wu, forcing Hong Wu to accept.

Because at Dragon Capital University, if someone publicly challenges them and if they did not accept, they would be looked down upon.

Once looked down upon, who would team up with them to clear Dungeon Instances?

Moreover, Hong Wu was livid inside, cursing, [That Dragon Tamer Lu Fan beat me up once, and now you, another Dragon Tamer, want to beat me up too. Do Dragon Tamers have a grudge against me or something!?]

So, Hong Wu accepted the challenge.

The result was predictable – Hong Wu was utterly defeated.

Not only was it a crushing defeat, but Chen Tianzi, as another Dragon Tamer, clearly intended to compete with Lu Fan.

When he fought Hong Wu, he did not even summon his Earth Dragon, but relied on his Dragon Spear to knock Hong Wu flying in two moves.

Since then, Hong Wu seem to have become a Combat Power measurement tool. Some jokingly referred to Lu Fan’s Combat Power as ‘100 Hong’, while Chen Tianzi as ‘50 Hong’.

After all, Lu Fan defeated Hong Wu in one move, while Chen Tianzi used two moves.

After this incident spread, Hong Wu’s miserable life began.

Almost half of the top 30 had practised on Hong Wu, obtaining Combat Power assessments like ‘26 Hong’, ‘73 Hong’, and so on.

After being beaten up like this, not only did Hong Wu suffer severe physical and mental traumas, but his points were also divided up by everyone. Fortunately, eating at the cafeteria required Dragon Coins, not points. Otherwise, he might have starved to death at Dragon Capital University.

Since then, Hong Wu had completely cowered in the face of any sparring request. Even if called ‘coward’, he dared not duel with anyone anymore.

Suddenly, Hong Wu was living at the bottom of Dragon Capital University.

Students like him could only do some part-time jobs at the school, such as helping teachers tidy up offices, to earn a few points to use for purchasing educational resources.

These things were all hearsay to Lu Fan. In fact, he, Jian Ying, Qin Qiu, and Tao Xiaoman had not gotten involved in this mess.

Firstly, Lu Fan and others had used almost all their time to clear Dungeon Instances, making it difficult for others to even find them, let alone challenge them.

Secondly, Lu Fan had ‘100 Hong’ Combat Power, and had recently become close with Jian Ying, who was ranked second out of all the freshmen.

Anyone who opposed someone in Lu Fan’s team might be targeted by the freshmen first and second place. Who would have that kind of courage!?

Even the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth ranked, who had formed a regular team for themself dared not clash with Lu Fan and Jian Ying, let alone others.

In short, over the past half month, the other freshmen had stirred Dragon Capital University into a muddy water.

Who knows what tricks would pop up at the freshmen exam the day after tomorrow?

While Lu Fan was slightly distracted, Zhao Shengming had already pushed aside some documents on his desk and said to Lu Fan, “Lu Fan, please sit down. I called you here because I have something to tell you.”

“Oh…” Lu Fan came back to his senses and sat down opposite Zhao Shengming.

Zhao Shengming’s expression was serious, and he got straight to the point without beating around the bush.

“When Gu Han invited you to enrol earlier, she should have mentioned giving you Dragon Capital University’s National Trial Secret Realm entry ticket, right?”

Lu Fan nodded, thinking to himself, [As expected, Zhao Shengming is looking for me to talk about the National Trial.]

Zhao Shengming solemnly said, “Regarding the National Trial, I’m in charge of it at the academy. Yesterday, I suddenly received an email from above. Take a look at this.”

Saying this, Zhao Shengming directly pushed a printed document to Lu Fan.

Lu Fan took it and glanced at it, raising his eyebrows.

The document stated that the opening date of the National Trial had been adjusted, brought forward by three months from five months!

In other words, the National Trial would open in just two months!

Lu Fan put down the document, and Zhao Shengming said with a hint of anger on his face, “As you can see, this is a document from above. The date of the National Trial has been confirmed to be brought forward, and no one can change it.”

“Why would the date be brought forward for no reason?” Lu Fan asked, puzzled.

Zhao Shengming’s anger intensified, but there was a hint of contempt in his smile as he said, “Why? It’s none other than Extremistis Country’s ‘competitive’ spirit!”

Silavin: Damn. That bullying is a little extreme.
