Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 138, Open Ring

Translator: Silavin

The battle in the arena was particularly intense, and everyone was watching with great interest, but Lu Fan could not muster any interest in it.

For someone like Lu Fan, who had experienced a battle with the Flying Dragon King Souls, this level of fighting on stage was too elementary for him. The four people on stage had mediocre combat awareness and experience. Their Skill usage was even more ineffective. Compared to the Flying Dragon King Souls’ Forbidden Spells, they were too far behind and not worth mentioning.

[This kind of battle, watching or not watching makes no difference…] Lu Fan thought for a moment. [Well, even if I go back now, it feels like a wasted trip to the Arena. Hmmm… I guess I should take this opportunity to hone my own combat awareness and gain more experience. Since this happens to be the Arena, I might as well go to the second floor and find someone to spar with.]

The Arena had two floors in total. The first floor was the public arena, for ordinary students to have arena-style sparring sessions. The second floor was more advanced, with a total of ten separate rooms. Each room was considered a VIP Arena. There, two people could spar freely, using their trump cards without being seen by outsiders.

These VIP Arenas even had a function called ‘Open Ring’. Open Ring was basically the opening of a VIP Arena to the public with a Ring Master presiding over it. Anyone could choose to challenge this VIP Arena, against the Ring Master.

An Open Ring would have wagered University Points set by the Ring Master. Whoever won would get the opponent’s University Points. It was equivalent to an open challenge. Whoever had the ability could come and challenge the Ring Master, the winner would continue to preside over the Open Ring and be its new Ring Master, until the Ring Master decides to close the Open Ring and leave.

It was said that Chen Tianzhi once achieved an impressive record of twenty-eight consecutive victories in an Open Ring, becoming famous overnight.

Lu Fan had long heard of this interesting system and had wanted to try it out. It was just that previously, he had been busy leading Qin Qiu and the others to farm Dungeon Instances to Level Up. He simply had not had the time to come here to play.

[Well, isn’t this the perfect opportunity?]

Lu Fan told Han Ke and others that there isn’t anything interesting here, that he was going upstairs to play for a while. If the freshmen exam ended and he has not come down yet, they should give him a call.

Lu Fan soon parted from the crowd and headed to the second floor.

The first floor of the Arena was being used for the freshmen exam, while the second floor maintained its original function, providing a place for students to spar.

Moreover, although many people were downstairs watching the matches, there were still quite a few battle maniacs. They were not interested in watching matches. They only want to spar or duel to win points.

There were about several dozen people on the second floor, gathered in the lounge, looking for suitable VIP Arenas to challenge.

Lu Fan took a look and saw that eight of the ten VIP Arenas had been opened, with half of them being Open Rings, allowing others to freely come in and challenge the Ring Master.

However, these four Open Rings were either in battle or the Ring Master was resting. In short, they were temporarily not accepting any new challengers.

Lu Fan was originally confused. After all, with so many people wanting to fight, why have they not opened the other two VIP Arenas?

After inquiring, he learned that the points needed to open a VIP Arena was really expensive. Just for one hour, it costs thirty points.

[With these points, I could run a High Level Dungeon Instance. Who would be willing to open up a VIP Arena here instead? If someone opens up a VIP Arena and loses their match, not only would they lose the wagered points, but the thirty points to open the VIP Arena would also be wasted. It’ll all just benefit someone else.]

[That is, unless they are extremely confident in themselves and do not lack in University Points. Only such people would be willing to pay for a VIP Arena to start an Open Ring. It just so happens that I’m someone like that.]

Lu Fan directly went to the hall to find an assistant and opened up a VIP Arena. After entering the VIP Arena, the door closed, completely sealing it off from the outside world. People outside could not see the situation inside, only those with Lu Fan’s permission or those coming to challenge him could enter.

Lu Fan walked to a machine at the edge of the room. He chose to set it to be an Open Ring

To open an Open Ring, certain settings needed to be made. The Ring Master’s Level had to be public, but his Profession and name could be hidden.

Naturally, Lu Fan hid all he could.

As for the selection of opponents, Lu Fan chose not to set any restrictions. For fairness, in an Open Ring, Lu Fan could set the challengers to be of a certain Level range. Of course, the lowest range that could be set could not be five Levels below his own.

Lu Fan did not need to put too many restrictions on his opponents. Since they were just sparring, he would accept anyone. He was confident no matter how many people came, none of them would be his match.

The last thing he needed to set was the wagered points.

Lu Fan remembered that outside, the wagered points for an Open Ring were generally around fifty points.

He thought for a moment and directly set it to a hundred points.

[Where there’s a rich reward, brave men abound.] Lu Fan hoped that more people would come to his Open Ring to challenge him.

After setting everything up, Lu Fan officially opened his Open Ring. Now, he was quietly waiting for someone to come and challenge him.

Meanwhile, outside, in the lounge, a group of battle maniacs were looking at the display information for the ten VIP Arenas. They were checking to see which VIP Arenas they could enter to challenge and win points.

At this time, the Ninth VIP Arena showed that someone had opened an Open Ring, and the Ring Master was only Level 28; all other information hidden. It also stated that the wagered points were as high as 100 points, with no restrictions on challenger’s Level or Profession!

Immediately, there was an uproar among the students in the lounge.

“A Level 28 is hosting an Open Ring? And there are no restrictions on challengers!? Am I seeing things!?”

“You’re not seeing things! I’m looking at the same thing too. This person didn’t restrict the challenger’s Level and Profession. The wagered points are also not low, a full 100 points!”

“Did we encounter a generous soul? Does this person have so many points they have nowhere to spend them on? If so, is this person just coming here to do a good deed?”

“Haha, I guess it should be a newbie, who’s never been here before. Most likely this person doesn’t know the rules after opening an Open Ring. Probably just set it up randomly before opening the Open Ring.”

“Damn, is there such a good thing? Isn’t this clearly a big fat sheep, ready for us to take a bite out of? Brothers, leave this good thing to me, I’ll go and take those 100 points for you.”

“You’re too late, I just saw several people rush over to challenge that VIP Arena right after it got announced. If you’re just thinking about challenging it now, you’ve missed the boat.”

“Damn it! Those shameless bastards, they sure act fast…”

The lounge was in an uproar for a while, everyone thought that the person who opened the Ninth VIP Arena was a newbie who needed to be taught a good lesson today.

Those who regularly sparred here are all Level 30-40 Second Profession Change Players. In their eyes, beating a Level 28 First Profession Change Player would be a piece of cake, right?

Little did they know, those truly strong hunters often appear in the form of prey.

They thought they were the hunters, but in fact, they were the prey that had taken the bait.

Almost as soon as Lu Fan opened the Open Ring, not even half a minute later, someone was teleported into his VIP Arena.

The opponent was a tall, strong Guardian Knight. He was in full body armour, holding a long spear, looking well-equipped.

Because this was an arena, both their Level information was made public. Lu Fan could see that the opponent’s Level was not low, Level 41.

This person entered the arena, and seeing that Lu Fan was indeed a Level 28 newbie, a smile immediately appeared on his face. He could hardly suppress it before he quickly concealed it.

“Hey there, looking at your Level, you’re a freshman, right?” This Guardian Knight did not rush to fight with Lu Fan, but rather chatted with him with interest. It had the air of a cat toying with a mouse before pouncing.

He had thought that after coming to this VIP Arena, he would see the other party panicking, explaining that they did not understand how to set the Open Ring settings.

However, the result, Lu Fan was much calmer than he had expected.

“Yes, I’m a freshman,” Lu Fan replied with a smile, looking completely harmless.

“You’re really a freshman?” The Guardian Knight was stunned, because Level 28 seemed a bit high for a freshman. [Is the other party some kind of genius? Possible. Very possible.]

However, the Guardian Knight did not take it too seriously. Because as a PvP enthusiast, he was very strong. Meanwhile, his opponent was just a freshman who had not even gone through his Second Profession Change. Thus, in his mind, this battle would have no suspense. He believed this freshman was indeed talented. After coming to Dragon Capital University, this fresham had been rushing to Level Up, so his Level was relatively high.

The Senior Guardian Knight nodded, partially sincerely saying, “Junior, you’re only a freshman and you’ve already reached Level 28. Your future prospects must be good. Alright, let’s not waste words, shall we start? After all, you’ve opened up this VIP Arena. Even for an hour, it is quite expensive. I don’t think I should waste too much of your time.”

Lu Fan nodded and took out his Black Dragon Scale Greatsword, saying, “Okay, then I’ll start, Senior. Please guide me.”

“No problem. I’ll go easy on you and give you some pointers later,” the Senior Guardian Knight nodded, holding his spear with both hands, entering a battle stance.

However at this moment, he suddenly had a feeling.

Both Lu Fan’s appearance and the greatsword in his hand seemed familiar, as if he had seen them somewhere before.

This made the Senior Guardian Knight a bit puzzled, thinking to himself, [I don’t personally know any freshmen. Is he someone famous in Dragon Capital University? Maybe I’ve seen videos of him on the forums?]

While the Senior Guardian Knight was pondering, Lu Fan responded and, holding the Black Dragon Scale Greatsword, took a step forward. He seemed to already planned to make the first move, to charge up to engage the Senior Guardian Knight in close combat.

The Senior Guardian Knight stopped thinking and inwardly rejoiced, immediately planning to use the Guardian Knight Skill, Charge, to close in on Lu Fan and Stun him.

However, just as he was about to activate his Skill, he saw Lu Fan’s figure disappear after taking a step, leaving only a flash of electric arc from where he once stood..
