The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1182: Chapter 1182: Finding Uncle Li

Ying Xi’s expression immediately brightened, “Then, then you know…”

Tan Ping nodded, “After your parents died, you and your siblings, along with other children of the Ying family, were auctioned off. Relatives and friends who originally had close ties with the Ying family were afraid of being implicated and dared not come forward. Later, it was your first wife’s maternal brothers who claimed the bodies from Yizhuang and buried them.”

Ying Xi’s expression paused, his first wife’s maternal brothers?

Her stepfather was named Ying Qi. With his first wife, Madam Li, he had two sons and a daughter, then passed away from illness in the tenth year.

Three years later, he married her mother as a secondary wife.

Unfortunately, the good days didn’t last long before disaster befell the Ying family, and not a single member managed to escape.

After the stepfather remarried, her first wife’s maternal brothers rarely contacted the Ying family, only occasionally visiting to check how their nephews and niece were doing.

Unexpectedly, after the Ying family encountered misfortune, it was they who arranged the funeral affairs.

Ying Xi didn’t know where Madam Li’s family was, never having visited before, so she could only ask Tan Ping.

Tan Ping wasn’t very sure either, so he said, “Wait for me a moment, I’ll find out.”

“Thank you, Brother Tan.”

Tan Ping waved his hand, turned around, and went back to the cells.

Ying Xi felt a bit anxious; she knew that prisoners who died in jail, if someone claimed the body, that was good. Otherwise, they would either be dumped at the burial mound or directly cremated, leaving no ashes.

Earlier, her heart was always troubled, constantly fearing the worst outcome.

Now knowing that someone handled the funeral matters, no matter who it was, Ying Xi felt grateful.

Suddenly, a hand landed on her shoulder. When Ying Xi turned around, she saw Shu Yu smiling, “Don’t be nervous, it’s good to have found them.”

“Yes.”

A quarter of an hour later, Tan Ping returned.

He had changed into clean casual clothes, shedding much of the damp and bloody aura from earlier. He said to Ying Xi, “The Li family is on Dafang Street, but I’m not sure of the exact location. Let’s head to Dafang Street and inquire further.”

“Alright.”

Tan Ping then turned his head to Meng Yunzheng inside the carriage, “Sir, would you like to wait here a while?”

“No need, Dafang Street is probably not close; taking the carriage will be faster.”

Dafang Street was indeed not close. If it were, Tan Ping, who had been moving around this area, wouldn’t be unaware.

Tan Ping was a bit surprised, further convinced that the family Ying Xi and her brother encountered was genuinely kind-hearted, treating even a maid so well.

Since the other party had spoken, Tan Ping didn’t refuse, yet he didn’t get into the carriage but sat on the shaft instead, taking the reins from Ying Xi and leading the way himself.

Upon reaching Dafang Street, Tan Ping got off first and asked around the neighbors.

Luckily, his second inquiry was with someone who knew their family, directly taking them to the Li family’s door.

Tan Ping stepped forward and knocked on the door. Soon, a man in his fifties emerged, his temples slightly graying, squinting to scrutinize those at the door, “Who are you looking for?”

Tan Ping introduced himself. Upon hearing he was a jailer, the other’s face shifted slightly with tension, saying, “We haven’t committed any crimes, why come to our house?”

“We want to inquire about where Ying Qi and his wife are buried now.”

The man frowned, “Why are you asking about them? It’s been years since the incident, surely the case doesn’t have new developments? But the people are already dead.”
