My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2193: Chapter 2026: Rights

There is no extended relationship between us, no mutual rights of possession, only a fleeting moment of overlap at dawn when night mixes in.

Zhang Zhentian never thought that living with his wife would be so difficult, so devoid of happiness, what did he, as a husband, do to make her feel so sad and upset? Did he really see himself as such an incompetent husband? He hoped his wife could live happily with him, but why wasn’t she happy at all? Every word his wife said cut into his heart like a knife. He treated her with everything he had, but in return, he got cold indifference again and again, and even hurtful words from her today. What could he do to make her not feel so hurt and to live happily together? Does he really have to let go completely to make her truly happy and free?

When this thought first flashed through Zhang Zhentian’s mind, he quickly suppressed it. He didn’t want this idea to take root, because it scared him to see how much he cared for his wife and realized he couldn’t live without her. If he really let her go, who else was there for him in this life? Would he end up living alone forever? He couldn’t let that happen; if it did, he could never be happy again in this life.

”Wife, I know everything I’ve done before hurt you deeply. The things I did were so disgraceful, and I selfishly made you take all the blame for me. I know all these things are my fault; I shouldn’t have treated you so selfishly. But my heart can’t live without you. If you leave me, it’s like tearing my skin, drinking my blood. The only person I can’t live without in this life is you. We have so many wonderful memories together; can you really turn away and forget them all? I don’t believe those memories are gone from your mind. I long so much to keep living with you. Could you please give me some time, another chance, to stay with me? Let us both be truly happy and have each other, isn’t that good? Why must we both suffer so much? You left, and your heart hurts too, and mine is in even more agony. Why punish yourself for my mistakes?”

Xia Jing also couldn’t bear to let go of this relationship. This bond was built over so many years, with over a decade of marriage, through life’s ups and downs, facing all the hardships together. How could she be so selfish now to give it up, to abandon a love that could be full of joy and happiness? Why revert to being so self-centered, thinking only of herself? But if she agreed to go back to him, who could guarantee the past wouldn’t repeat itself? One lie led to divorce; what benefit was there for her to return to him? What value did she hold in his eyes?

”I really don’t know if I should believe every word you say. Years ago, you made the same promises, but you’ve never fulfilled any of them. Your promises have become commonplace; no matter how many you make, you’ve never considered how I feel. I can forgive you for hurting me again and again, but one lie led to our divorce, and that pain remains in my heart. I can’t forget how resolute you were when you dragged me to the civil office, demanding a divorce. Afterward, you kept searching for me; I know all this. But I can’t be with you again; each time brings back memories of pleading with you at the civil office, and your cold, ruthless face. The pain of being abandoned still haunts me; when you left, you seemed so happy. In these years apart, I don’t know what you’ve been through, but you can’t just come back and order me to be with you, like it’s your right. Why should I give you that privilege time and time again? Just because you were once my husband? Do I have to forgive you repeatedly? I’m not a saint; I can’t treat this relationship like one. Once you’ve hurt me, the damage is done. No amount of pleading and apologies will erase it. I can’t love you like before; that love is long gone. So why make each other suffer? I want a life of my own, without you, and without memories of you around. I’ve been happier without you; I live freely and without worries, doing what I want. With you, my heart was always filled with consideration for others. But you, you never cared; you only enjoyed yourself. Someone like you doesn’t deserve to live with me, and I shouldn’t be with someone like you. Your selfishness scares me, every action makes me uneasy. I don’t want to live in constant fear; the pressure is too great. If I continue living with you, I fear my mind will break one day. I want to see my son forgive me. I don’t want to lose my precious life because of you. Please, don’t bother me again; it’s not good for either of us!”

We persist in waiting in our places, becoming two separate worlds. You will never understand my sorrow, just as daylight can never comprehend the darkness of night, like the ever-burning sun never knows the waxing and waning of the moon!
