My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2218: Chapter 2051: Friendship

As long as it’s a cry for help from you, no matter how far, no matter how late, I’ll rush over with my life on the line to coax away your sadness, take you for a drive till dawn. You say he’s working hard at fooling you, trying to show he still loves you—the saddest person of all, yet with the most pitiful heart, and even the most ridiculous logic.

Zhang Zhentian knew that he had already become a man with no way out. No matter where he went, there was no one willing to help him. The wrongs he’d committed in the past were simply far too many. There wasn’t a single person willing to sincerely help him even once, and all those wrongs he’d done had broken everyone’s hearts. So now, what was the point of begging anyone? Begging others was worse than begging himself; maybe one day a miracle would land on him.

When everyone rejected Zhang Zhentian’s pleas over and over again, they were in great pain inside. None of them had ever imagined that a family once so close would end up like this. No one could foresee what your next step would be, or what you would eventually lose. All of this followed your own nature. Every single wrong you had done would, in the end, be punished, and that punishment would be something you would never forget for the rest of your life.

Old Master Zhang saw his son in this dazed and utterly crushed state, and her heart ached and ached. She actually knew that if she helped her son one more time, maybe the ending really would be different. But she still chose to refuse, because helping him would only make him even more lawless, make him even less capable of feeling gratitude toward others. That would only harm her own son, so how could that be called helping him? So she hardened her heart and refused her son’s plea.

”Is my life, Zhang Zhentian’s, really destined to finish out the rest of my years all alone? No, I don’t want that. I still have so much life left where I could live happily and freely. Why should I destroy my own life here? Don’t do this, it’ll make my heart hurt so much. Why does Heaven treat me like this, why?”

In the end, Zhang Zhentian went to beg in front of Ran Zhihan.

”Zhihan, I know a lot of things in the past were all my fault. Dad has wronged you, made you suffer a lot of hurt. But Dad really has run out of roads now. Maybe this is something only you can help me with. I’m begging you, help me. Don’t let your mom leave me. You know what your mom means to me. All these years I know your mother and I have caused you a lot of hurt. That hurt may be something we can never make up for in this lifetime. But I hope you can give the two of us one more chance—a chance to truly change and stay by your side. I’ve already gone to your grandpa, and to your husband, but I couldn’t get through to them. They’re all unwilling to help me. Now it’s really only you who can help me. I’m begging you, please help me!”

Ran Zhihan didn’t know what to do about this. No matter what she did it would be wrong. To help or not to help all rested on a single thought of her own. But the person in front of her was her husband’s father, his biological father. Her husband and her grandfather had already decided not to help him. As a daughter-in-law, should she even interfere in this matter? If she did get involved, how would her husband and her grandfather look at her? Was she really going to go be that soft-hearted pushover?

”Dad, it’s not that I won’t help you, it’s that I really don’t know what to do. My husband and my grandpa have already decided not to help you, and I, as their family, as the daughter-in-law of the Zhang Family, how can I go against them and help you? You know very well what you’ve done. I know you’ve done a lot of things that hurt me, and I don’t care about those. What I care about is what my husband thinks. If my husband agrees and is willing to help you, then I’ll help you without a second thought. But if they’re not willing to help you, then I have nothing more to say, and even more so I can’t act otherwise. If I did, it would be the same as betraying my husband.”

”Silly child, you should know what your husband’s temperament is like. He’s just hung up on his pride, that’s all. As long as you help me, the feelings between you and your husband will only get better, and he’ll treat you even better, won’t he? I’m his biological father. No matter how many conflicts there are between us, he can’t possibly refuse to acknowledge his own father. Sometimes you should try putting yourself in another’s shoes, don’t you think? It’s obviously a very simple matter, yet you insist on making it so complicated. The more complicated things get, the worse they turn out. If you help me quietly, without a sound, it’s a better outcome for everyone. Why won’t you do that?”

”Dad, it’s not that I’m unwilling to help you, and it’s not that I don’t want to do it, but I can’t do it. If I did, what would happen to the feelings between my husband and me? If I go ahead with this, he might explode in anger and never speak to me again. I know that makes me sound very selfish, but who isn’t selfish when it comes to their own family? If someone isn’t selfish for their family, doesn’t that just mean they don’t care about it? Actually, you should understand your own son’s personality better than I do. Once he makes a decision, no one can change it, and no one dares go against his wishes in these matters. If today I do this because of you, my family might be gone. Even if his feelings for me are deep, there will be a rift between us.”

”But I really have nowhere left to go now. If I weren’t at the end of my rope, I would never have come to ask you for help. I’ve never once begged you for anything in my life; this is the first time. But I didn’t expect that the first time I ask you for help, you’d use this kind of reason to turn me down. I know in your heart your own family is more important than us relatives, because what you care about is this family of yours. I can’t say anything else, or your husband will just come looking for trouble with me.”

Ran Zhihan truly didn’t know what to say anymore. On one side was her father-in-law, on the other was her husband. No matter which side she helped, she would offend the other. Only one side could be happy. So why shouldn’t she be a little selfish and make her husband happy? She knew the decision she was making was really selfish, but she truly had no choice. She didn’t want to be caught in the middle of this, forced into a no-win situation. Her husband’s decision was something she could only submit to for the rest of her life, not resist. As for her father-in-law’s decision, she could take it or leave it. She only respected her husband’s decision. Maybe this is just what a wife is supposed to do?

Clinging blindly to the belief that something has meaning is how you end up being battered by the wrong kind of love!
