My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2211: Chapter 2044: Awakening from the Dream

My heart does not regret, all is folded for you, repeated again and again for you!

”No, if we reveal this matter to Grandpa now, surely his heart can’t bear such a blow. Do you want him to truly end up in the hospital overnight? I don’t want something like this to happen again. In the future, don’t say such things; if you care about Grandpa, just conceal it for a while. Concealing it for a while will give Grandpa a good time too.”

”Husband, are you silly? Is your grandpa really a naive child of three? How could he not know about these matters? The fact that Grandpa entrusted this investigation to you shows that he trusts you to give him a fair answer and won’t abuse your power. But if you don’t tell him now, and he finds out through other channels that this matter is related to our mom, won’t it feel worse? Perhaps by then, it will backfire even more. Grandpa actually has many ways to find out who did it, yet he didn’t choose to investigate himself and instead gave this responsibility to us. He just hopes we realize clearly that not everyone in the world values family ties like we do; for others, it’s always about interests, not family. I hope you consider carefully whether we should tell Grandpa clearly, so he won’t feel worse when the time comes, wondering why even his own grandson won’t tell him the truth. How could Grandpa accept such a blow?”

Zhang Yichen felt his wife’s words were extremely reasonable; it was something he hadn’t thought of. If he had his wife’s meticulous mind, would things be much easier?

”Alright, I understand. I’ll consider it carefully. I’ll also consider whether to tell Grandpa clearly. If the final decision is still not to tell him, I hope you can support me and not tell Grandpa early. For me, if Grandpa can be happy for a while, let him live happily for a while without upsetting him with unpleasant matters during what could be happy times, okay? Let’s not discuss this matter any further for now. We’ll see tonight when we get home if Grandpa asks. If he asks, we’ll talk; if not, we won’t mention it.”

As soon as the two got home, Old Master Zhang saw his grandson and granddaughter-in-law return, and he immediately asked, ”How is the investigation going between you two? Is it done by the person we suspect? Don’t think of hiding anything from me; if you’ve really found out something, I hope you answer Grandpa honestly.”

”Grandpa, we’re still not clear about the matter. We don’t know who did it yet. Just stay calm at home and wait for our news. Don’t rush; I’m sure we’ll find out one day!” Ran Zhihan quickly answered Old Master Zhang.

”Don’t think about using other excuses to conceal things from me. I hope you both answer honestly about who did this. If I find out you’ve kept anything from me, then you’re not worthy of being my grandson and granddaughter-in-law. You’ll move out, and I won’t want to see you again. Consider carefully whether to be honest with me or continue to hide things. I hope you make the right choice because if you choose to conceal it, you should know the consequences very clearly.”

Zhang Yichen understood what his grandpa meant. How could he not know the consequences? How could he not know the ultimate outcome of this matter? He just didn’t know how to say it. But how should he choose? On one side, his grandpa’s health; on the other, his filial piety to his grandpa. Should he betray his mother or fulfill his loyalty to his grandpa? The inner struggle caused great conflict, yet he had to make a choice. Not choosing would ultimately lead to two outcomes, neither of which could be preserved.

”Grandpa, I don’t know how to talk to you about this. All I can say is that we hope to investigate further for now. Although all evidence points to the person we suspect, I believe it’s not so simple. You know my biological mother hasn’t returned, and she doesn’t even know what our child looks like. How could she know, or could she really stop him at midnight to stop him from going home? Perhaps it was by chance that she passed by and saw my child. Seeing our child looking cute, she might have asked him to stay and chat longer. But we can’t easily make a decision; many impulsive decisions can harm the feelings between us. I hope we can calmly understand everything. I don’t want this matter to widen its scope. My wife and I concealed this matter so you could live happily. I hope you can give me a bit more time to investigate. I have many things to verify personally to determine whether it was intentional. If it is intentional, you don’t have to tell me what the Zhang Family rules call for.”

”Since you confessed, Grandpa won’t blame you. But Grandpa hopes you remember one thing: no matter what happened, for whom, you can’t conceal anything from Grandpa. If Grandpa finds out you deceived me someday, then Grandpa won’t forgive you for sure. You know how much Grandpa loves you, how much he cares about you. If you truly deceived Grandpa, how difficult and painful it would be for Grandpa to accept being deceived by his own grandson!”

”I’m sorry, Grandpa. We were wrong in this matter, but we did it hoping you could live happily without being affected by anything negative. I know we made a mistake, and I hope you won’t be angry, and I hope you’ll take care of yourself...”

It is said that heart meets heart, and I have been waiting for that day!
