My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2231: Chapter 2064: Early Morning

The sound of wind and rain in the middle of the night startled the dreamer. Who is often knocking on the door after the Start of Autumn, preferring to begin alone?

”Do you really have the nerve to say that you have a clear conscience? Do you think we don’t know every single thing you’ve done? When you turned your own father and mother away, didn’t you think that one day you would face retribution? When you were doing those things, didn’t you consider whether you would truly have a clear conscience in the end? Although now you dare to say to me that you have a clear conscience, you think you have the right just because you put our whole family in danger?”

Zhang Yichen didn’t expect his father to speak to him like this. Inside, he felt truly hurt. He regarded his father with such importance, but why did his father see him as such a person?

”I don’t want to say much. I just want to tell you one thing: many times, just because you say something is nonexistent doesn’t mean it is, and just because you say something exists doesn’t make it so. You should be clear in your own heart about the things you’ve done, so why need others to point fingers? If you want to do every single thing yourself, then be prepared to bear the consequences. Don’t drag others into the repercussions of your actions, and don’t make others anxious on your behalf. That’s what a good son or daughter should do, isn’t it?”

...

Old Master Zhang couldn’t bear to listen to the quarrels between his grandson and son any longer. He wondered why the two father and son had to argue to such an extent. Would arguing back and forth change anything? Would it really cover up everything they had done? Would arguing like this truly bury all the wrongs they had committed, freeing them from taking responsibility for their mistakes? Wasn’t that too naive?

”Both of you don’t need to argue anymore. Do you think arguing back and forth is useful? Do you think you can escape the consequences of your actions by arguing back and forth? Do you think everyone in this world will treat you with kindness? You’re not noble figures, nor are others saints. Why should they forgive you again and again and treat you well? Today, you’re here arguing not to avoid facing the consequences of your mistakes? That’s because you don’t want to take responsibility for it. If you are so capable, then why can’t you bear the mistakes you committed by yourselves? Is this what you call pride? If you can’t even do the basics, what right do you have to argue with me here?”

”Grandpa, you heard it too; I’m not the one arguing with my dad. It’s his actions that are too excessive. Doing so many things yet showing no remorse at all. Will he never know to reflect unless one day he loses everyone who cares for him? Why does he always hurt us like this? What do we owe him? Throughout these years, he has never been there for us, yet we have chosen time and again to forgive him for his mistakes. And what’s the final result? He thinks we are deliberately against him, deliberately excluding him, deliberately not allowing him back into the Zhang Family. But it was clearly himself who said if he hides anything from us today, he would never step into the doorstep of the Zhang Family in his lifetime. Even he forgets his own words!”

”What do you mean I forget my own words? By this do you clearly imply that you want to kick your biological father out of the house again? If you need to, just tell me directly. Why speak to me in a roundabout way like this? Do you think it’s right, as my biological son, to talk to your father like that? Is this the kind of thing a son should say? Do you understand anything about respect?”

”Enough, I’ve told you two to stop arguing. Is it meaningful to argue back and forth? These words were clearly spoken by you, don’t you think? Or is it that you are mistakenly accused by me and your son? Haven’t you realized that speaking this way is going too far? Do you not think about the consequences of every word you say? Do you really think everyone is a fool, to be at your and your wife’s disposal? Even if everyone else were fools, neither I nor your son are. We see many things clearly. People just don’t speak out, leaving room for discretion. But think carefully yourselves, are all the things you did wrong truly correct? Aren’t you afraid that one day there might be retribution for the things you’ve done? Hurting me and your son like this, do you really think it’s right? You always claim you belong in the Zhang Family. May I ask, where does your qualification to belong in the Zhang Family come from?”

”I don’t want to argue with you two anymore. Is it really meaningful to argue back and forth like this? Seriously, it’s annoying to argue here.”

Old Master Zhang found it quite entertaining. It’s clearly him who keeps arguing back and forth here, how can he now blame it on him? He’s never seen such a son before. How on earth did he give birth to such a son who torments himself?

”Don’t you find it funny to say this? It’s you who keeps arguing back and forth, and now you’re blaming us. Don’t you think your actions are a little immoral? Is this the attitude you have towards a father treating his son? Doing this over and over, aren’t you afraid of divine retribution? Are you truly at ease in your heart doing this? Is your conscience at peace? To be honest, I really don’t know how you’ve lived abroad all these years. Have you never felt any guilt? Have you never felt you have wronged your son, abandoned your family, and your father? Does your heart not feel any torment or discomfort? Why are you such a hard-hearted person? Even if you’re hard-hearted, by now you should have been touched by us, and understood what family means and what is truly important. But why do you never understand? Why are you still the same as before, doing things without thinking? Did you come into this world without bringing your brain along at birth? I really don’t understand how, in such a smart family, there’s a son as foolish as you? Why has there emerged someone as ungrateful as you? For generations, the Zhang Family has been so loyal, righteous, and filial, but you? What about you? You are always like this, always so selfish, which makes me feel somewhat...”

Old Master Zhang didn’t know how to speak to his son. He could only choose not to speak.

The lamp in the morning lights up the past. Now I am no longer waiting naively because I know that all this is not attainable just by wishing!
