My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2202: Chapter 2035: Floating World

The intoxicating path of the fleeting world is so exhausting, every step is not the path I want to take, yet it leads me to a path I can’t change!

”Husband, don’t be so sad, look, I’m fine now, aren’t I? You have to believe me, no matter how severe the depression is, as long as you are by my side, there will definitely be a day when I get better. You shouldn’t be too pessimistic. As long as you can stay with me, no matter what happens in my life, it will be enough...” Xia Jing wanted to trick Zhang Zhentian, she wanted Zhang Zhentian to believe that she’ll get better one day because it was his presence that naturally cured her depression.

”Wife, I’m sorry, I’ve failed to take care of you. We’ve shared our lives for over ten years, yet I didn’t even know you had depression. It’s my fault as a husband for not fulfilling my responsibility, making you endure the torment of illness for so many years. Trust me, I will stay by your side from now on and never leave you. I will wait for the day when you get better, no matter how long it takes. Let’s not delve into past matters anymore, let’s focus on happily moving forward. We must bravely face the demons of our illness and the difficulties ahead. I believe that as long as we are willing to face them openly, we can definitely conquer your illness. I will surely make you better!” Zhang Zhentian thought Xia Jing’s words were meant to comfort him. He didn’t want his wife, who was sick, to have to comfort him, the oblivious husband.

”I trust you. I believe that with your companionship, I can definitely get better. We will never mention the past again, we must look forward. Only by looking forward can we know what kind of path we will take in the future!”

”Darling, you are truly the woman I love most in my life, please don’t hurt me with any more lies, alright? My heart can’t take any more wounds, you know? If I’m hurt once more by your lies, I won’t be able to bear it. If there’s any lie you have yet to confess, I hope you can be honest with me instead of waiting for me to discover your deception because discovering your lies, I won’t expose them, and it would cause pain for both of us...”

Listening to Zhang Zhentian’s words, Xia Jing hesitated. She really wanted to confess that she was faking her illness all along, but she didn’t know how to do it or what the consequences might be. He had just made it clear he couldn’t bear any more hurt. Should she really tell him the harsh truth, that as his wife she deceived him emotionally again? How would he take it if she actually voiced it out?

”Darling, I know a person doesn’t always make mistakes forever. Making mistakes isn’t terrible. What’s terrible is never daring to admit one’s mistakes and confess them honestly to others. Wife, let’s not deceive each other anymore. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life living under a veil of lies in this marriage. I know you’ve hidden many things from me in the past, I’ve always known. Do you know? Whenever I found out you were hiding something from me, I’d lay awake at night, unable to sleep, wondering why you were concealing it. Aren’t you my wife? If you truly see me as your husband, why hide it and not tell me? Our marriage wasn’t easily won; we’ve both given so much and gone through so many hardships. I don’t want our marriage to be destroyed by any misgivings. Something that comes hard should be cherished even more, right? Why do we keep hurting the feelings between us, harming our hard-earned marriage time after time? I know many things were tests from you, but I beg you, let them end. I can’t handle these tests anymore. Every test demands such immense mental effort from me...”

Watching Zhang Zhentian on the verge of tears as he spoke, Xia Jing couldn’t bear it. Finally, she made up her mind to confess to Zhang Zhentian that she was faking her illness.

”Husband, there’s something I want to tell you, but I hope you won’t get mad upon hearing it, nor harbor any doubts about me because of this!”

”Go ahead!”

”Actually, what you heard outside my brother’s house about me having severe depression is a lie. I am not sick at all. I said I suffered from severe depression to deceive him. You aren’t angry, are you?”

Zhang Zhentian was stunned. He couldn’t believe that the entire affair about his wife being ill was fabricated. He couldn’t fathom what his wife was capable of doing behind his back.

”Are you serious? You’re really not sick?” Zhang Zhentian couldn’t believe his wife’s words; he wanted to confirm once more if what he heard was wrong, but the answer left him disappointed.

”That’s right. I know why you ask—it’s to confirm if you heard incorrectly. I’m telling you now, you didn’t hear wrong. I’m indeed not sick. I made up the severe depression story out of thin air!”

”I can’t believe it, are you still the Xia Jing from before, the woman I dearly loved? Why would you do this? Lie after lie, aren’t you exhausted? I really want to ask you, I heard clearly at your brother’s house, he gave you an out—he asked if you were genuinely sick or just lying. He clearly offered you a way out, why did you continue to lie, why weren’t you honest with us?” Zhang Zhentian was furious. He couldn’t accept that his wife used illness as a pretext to deceive him. Didn’t she know how scared he was of her being sick?

”Believe me, I had my reasons for saying what I did; it wasn’t intentional!”

”Enough. Say no more. Nothing you say now has any meaning. A mistake is a mistake. Do you know that one lie necessitates ten more to cover it, and then how many more for those ten lies? Do you realize that once a lie is told, it’s a colossal deception? You never consider things from others’ perspectives, do you? Standing at their door, I was terrified that what you said was true, and when you came back and comforted me, you never once spoke the truth from start to finish. If I hadn’t said those words to you, would you still continue concealing it? Do you have any conscience left? I’m your husband, your lifelong partner. How can you cruelly deceive me again and again, wouldn’t I be heartbroken? You are my wife, my partner for life. Why can’t you consider things from my perspective as your husband? Do you know how deeply your actions hurt me? Since it has come to this, you don’t need to say anything more. I think it’s time we both take some time apart to cool down...”

After saying this, Zhang Zhentian left. He took nothing but his wallet, mobile phone, and passport. He needed to find a place outside to stay because living under the same roof as his wife suffocated him. Xia Jing never expected she would truly anger her husband to the point of leaving this time!

Perhaps I truly am imperfect, wearing too many disguises, living so wearily!
