My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2245: Chapter 2078: Inch by Inch

Even when looking back, all I see is the warmth within my palm.

Old Master Zhang knew that the things he said made Zhang Ni understand many truths. He always thought he was an extremely calculative person, but he never expected that despite all his scheming and efforts, his ruthlessness paled in comparison to his son’s. His son was ruthlessly unmatched, capable of abandoning even his own son. In truth, Old Master Zhang really couldn’t understand why he decided to have his son born, only to be repaid like this today, pushed step by step into his current plight. His heart wasn’t happy at all. For the first time, he wished there really was a regret remedy in this world. He’s truly regretful now. If it weren’t to see his son live well by his side, if not for his son and wife, why would he risk his life to ensure his son’s safety? Yet in the end, his son continuously tested his limits. How is he supposed to face his wife in the afterlife?

Zhang Ni looked at Old Master Zhang who was about to cry and said to him, ”Great-grandfather, don’t be sad. No matter what happens, I’m here by your side. I will respect and care for you well. I will treat making you happy as my happiest endeavor every day. I will always be with you. I won’t let anyone bully you again. You have to believe me, I’ll grow to be a strong and upright man. I want everyone who looked down on me and abandoned me to see the kind of person I truly am, to understand what a major mistake it was to abandon me...”

Zhang Yichen had also said these words to Old Master Zhang when he was young. At that moment, he had been abandoned by his father, and now his son uttered these words because his grandparents had forsaken him. Each time this statement was made, it began with being abandoned by those who mattered. Why do all these people choose to abandon them, the most important people? Do they really hold their wife, father, and son in such little esteem? Continuous hurt inflicts the greatest mental blow, and there’s no way to heal. No one ever considered how to resolve these matters?

”Silly child, you don’t need any great ability. Just remember, no matter when or where, never abandon yourself, those you care about, and those who love you. Once a mistake is made, it truly can’t be undone. There’s no regret remedy in the world. Once you’ve done something, you’ll have to bear the painful consequences it brings. There are many paths to take in life and countless choices to face. Every choice you make will affect your future life. Know that choosing the right path is crucial for personal growth. If you chose wrongly, the outcome will be painful. Don’t think everything will work out by luck. Don’t think because today you did something wrong but weren’t caught, that you can keep doing wrong things without consequences. There will come a time when someone will catch you, and that vulnerability can be used against you. They might force you to do things you don’t want to through blackmail. Child, understand that growing honestly is crucial. Doing things sincerely is important. Life involves learning, facing choices and difficulties. Every choice you make affects your future path. Don’t let the temporary pursuit of fame and fortune lead to eternal regret. Understand that if you choose the wrong path, you won’t find a way back for the rest of your life!”

”Great-grandfather, I understand. I know what path I should choose and how my life should grow. But I hope my parents will give me a brother or sister. Having siblings would keep me from being lonely on my growth journey...”

...

Time spins fast, it truly does. In a blink, five years passed. In these five years, Old Master Zhang watched firsthand how this little rascal archived everything. Every crazy effort, he trained himself through rigorous trials, exactly like his grandson before. To prove to those who abandoned him that he was the strongest, he went to great lengths, regardless of risking his life. He just wanted others to know how significant an error it was to abandon him back then.

”Yichen, you see, your son has the same mentality as you did. He also merely wants to prove to others what a big mistake it was to abandon him. Just like back when your parents abandoned you, you fought hard to prove you’re the strongest. You didn’t want everyone to see through you. You desired to announce to the world that you’re the ruler. You wanted them to understand how terribly wrong they were to abandon you. But now you’ve achieved it. Yet your son has to endure the same pain you did. Sometimes, my heart aches unbearably. I don’t know how to persuade him to stop, but I know if I did, he would feel even greater pain. Being abandoned by those he cares for, having never seen his grandparents since birth, how is he supposed to handle that? He just hopes his grandparents recognize he’s the strongest in the world. He just wishes they’d come back to see him even once, even just to speak a few words, and that would be enough for him...”

The happiness I long for has always been so simple, but it’s something deep within that I cannot change!
