My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2241: Chapter 2074: Longing

What’s wrong with me? Am I crying? Love turned into charity in the end.

During their conversation, unbeknownst to Zhang Zhentian, he had been standing outside the hospital room eavesdropping for some time. When he heard his wife speak such heartless words, he stormed into the room in anger. Old Master Zhang, seeing his son burst in recklessly, wondered when his son would ever grow up. Why did he always act like a child who didn’t understand, casually entering other people’s rooms? Did he not realize that this would only make others think they were rude?

When Xia Jing saw Zhang Zhentian push the door open and enter, she was stunned. She hadn’t expected someone to be standing outside the door. If she’d known, she certainly wouldn’t have spoken so bluntly. This would only worsen the relationship between them, even leading to an irreparable situation. But things had come to this point; what could she do? Could she lower her head and admit fault? Was it her fault? Would saying this make him believe her? She could hardly believe this was real.

”When did you start standing outside the door? Don’t you know that eavesdropping on others is very rude? Don’t you realize that doing this makes me feel that you don’t take me seriously? If you cared about me in your heart, you could simply ask me straightforward questions face-to-face. Why stand outside eavesdropping? Do you know this really makes me look down on you!”

”Straightforward questions? Would you honestly tell me the truth then? You don’t need to think of ways to deceive me. If not for standing outside and listening, how could I truly know what you’re thinking? If I hadn’t stayed outside, how would I understand your true thoughts?

Your heart clearly despises me, yet you act indifferent in front of me. But in front of my father, you reveal all your thoughts. Am I so unworthy of your trust that saying a single truthful word to me is this difficult? What does it matter if you say a truthful word to my face? Will that end your life?”

”Since you’ve already heard so much, I’ll clarify things in front of Dad now. You should know that your actions may mean nothing to you, but to me, they are hurtful. You’ve never considered what I want; you think that what you can give me is what I desire. But do you understand? After all these years, I really don’t know how I’ve managed. I valued you greatly, but ultimately, this is how you treat me. How can I continue to live a lifetime with you? I’m not a saint; I need a relationship. I need genuine affection without ulterior motives. Can you offer that?

If you ask yourself sincerely, you can’t even provide that kind of emotional support, so how can you demand that I stay by your side consistently? I’ve always tried to make compromises, thinking that if I compromised to be with you, you’d eventually see my love for you. But in the end, is that really the case? Do you truly see my love? Is hurting me again and again your form of love for me?

Human hearts are made of flesh. Things have reached their current state, and there’s no way to restore it to what it was before. I once thought that as long as I was with you, I could give up everything and not ask for anything. But in the end, I realized I couldn’t. You might see me as a vain woman because you’ve thought before when you were ill that I was with you for money. A heart that doesn’t believe or trust, why should we force ourselves to stay together?

You know, being with you, I’ve constantly reflected on whether I’m doing the right thing or not. I don’t know if choosing to be with you was right or wrong. I’ve been tormented, caught between right and wrong, a pain you’ve never felt. How could you possibly know the depth of my sadness? If you truly love me, if there’s even a shred of guilt and love for me, then let go...”

Zhang Zhentian never realized that Xia Jing had always thought about letting go of him. But why did he remain so stubbornly with her, investing so much? Did these words result in such a heart-wrenching outcome? Nobody expected such an outcome, such heartbreaking pain. Once, he thought if he could be with the person he loved, he’d give up everything without hesitation. But now he found that all this was just his wishful thinking, and what he once had was just an illusion.

”If you think there’s something I’ve done wrong, then please clearly tell me. Why do you always treat me with such thoughts? Don’t you know that by treating me this way only deepens my agony?

If you truly don’t wish to be with me, then please make it clear. Stop giving me hope, only to let me down again later. That kind of pain is something you wouldn’t want to experience, so why do you inflict it on me? Is this fair to me? To our years of marriage? I’ve loved you so much, treating you as my lifelong partner. Are you someone always thinking of leaving and flying away?

How can you be so cruel, so heartless? I love you so much, yet you treat me this way. Our years of marriage mean so little to you, burying my love for you completely. It makes me feel like you’re a bad woman. I was so determined to be with you, yet you use this way of thinking to hurt me. If you really think like that, why should I continue to persist for you? Rest assured, I will no longer be persistent!”

”I’ve told you long ago not to hold on for a girl like me. You kept being foolishly persistent, wasn’t it you who kept going? Now that you hate me so much, let’s not associate anymore. Let’s consider ourselves strangers, not acquainted. I never wanted to see you from the start, never intended to continue life with you. You forced me to stay, not letting me leave. Is that my fault too? I’m saying it clearly today, severing all ties with you, no longer having any association...”

When will you return the embrace I’m owed?
