My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2217: Chapter 2050: Struggle for Control

Perhaps none of this is what I wanted, and maybe all these imprints deep in my heart are nothing but unbearable pain, yet I still can’t forget it all.

Xiao Wei and the others still have no idea about their sister’s situation. He might think he should be living happily now, but how could he know that in this period, so many accidents have happened to his sister, one after another, causing her to be so deranged now that she can’t distinguish right from wrong. Even eating has become the biggest difficulty for her. If he knew, he would probably feel very pained deep inside, because, after all, she’s his sister who has depended on him for so many years.

He always wanted to return to the country to accompany his sister, to see how she is doing now, but he’s always been tied down by his wife. He cannot let his wife down; he knows her expectations of him.

Before, he could live carefreely without worries, but now he can’t do that because he has his own family and responsibilities he must bear. He should change for his family. Acting recklessly as before to do whatever he wants, would only cause him to grow further apart from his loved ones. What he wants is for his loved ones to always be by his side. This is perhaps the most precious thing every person who has started a family hopes to obtain!

”You’re telling me now that it’s my fault that mom’s like this. Even if I had something going on, couldn’t I just step away for a moment? I admit I was negligent about this incident just now, I didn’t think mom would change so drastically all of a sudden. Isn’t this a kind of pain for me, too? I never thought there would be such a moment; to have to constantly watch over her in this way. If she were clear-headed, she would find this an immense pain. She’s never endured this kind of suffering, and now she can only silently bear it all on her own. Ultimately, this is something we all brought upon her together.

Do you have things you care about, too? I know you care about your career, your family. Do you think I don’t care? She’s my biological mother, I always want her to be healthier than anyone else, and I hope for her safety more than anyone, too. But some things are just beyond my control. Every decision I make only results in excruciating pain for myself over and over again. No one has ever cared about what I think inside, so what am I sacrificing it all for? You haven’t even told your uncle about this incident up till now because you’re afraid he’ll come to lay blame on you, right?

If your sister knew that because of mom, you chose to kick grandma out of the house, do you think your uncle would agree? Would he continue to trust you deep down?

You know more than anyone that you need your uncle’s trust because he holds the power. Even if he’s been out of the underworld for years, he still has connections with those people, his network is still very strong. You’re always afraid of offending him, you don’t dare to kick your mom out by yourself because you’re considering him. But now you want to shift all the blame onto me. I’m not going to foolishly bear all the guilt on your behalf.

As for my grandmother, I think you should communicate with them properly. Regardless of their reasons for coming back, since they’ve chosen to return, they should stay in this house peacefully without causing more trouble. That’s only harmful and not beneficial to anyone. Don’t hurt everyone completely then only realize and regret it later. People won’t forgive him for every mistake just because he once made them. Everyone has their own things to do, and he should pay a heavy price for his actions.

Even though I’m not sure if my mother’s current state is related to him, even if there’s no direct relation, there’s an indirect one. If it weren’t for their return, how could my mother have been neglected? Don’t you really know how my mother has treated you over the years deep inside? You’ve betrayed the trust my mom placed in you, putting her in the most awkward situation, leaving her no way to get along with you, which made her increasingly withdrawn.”

”Even if all the supposed problems you mentioned are solely my issues, shouldn’t you reflect on whether there’s truly no problem within yourself? She is your mother, she’s just my wife. Do I have my own job with pay to attend to? I should care for her, understand her, accompany her, and not neglect her. But what about you? You’re her son, the child she gave birth to after ten hard months, yet as a younger generation, you can’t always be with your mother. How do you expect me to do it?

Do you not need to eat? Shouldn’t your grandpa return home to enjoy some blessings? Doesn’t great-grandpa hope we can all have successful careers? Everyone has different expectations from each individual—a bit like my expectations for you. As long as you’re happy, even if you achieve nothing, I’m still happy and willing. I’m willing to offer you all my wealth so that you can live a life without worries. Do you accept that?

Of course, you wouldn’t agree, because such a life is a puppet-like existence, where others will just point fingers at you, saying you’re worthless. You wouldn’t want such a life, let alone me. The pressure I bear isn’t less than yours, yet why do you want me to endure the pain I once bore once more? Do you want me to suffer through people pointing fingers at me every day again? Am I useless? A child abandoned by parents?

Can we both consider it from the other’s perspective? If you really find it so frustrating, we can take turns on duty. When someone is on duty with your mom, no matter what happens, that person absolutely cannot leave. Even if the sky falls, they must stay by her side. If you can do that, I will accept your suggestion without complaint, and I will stay here with her. But it can’t always be me guarding while you handle your stuff. So, doesn’t my company and those thousands of employees need to eat too? Can my company just stop running? Will money just fall into my pocket like pies from the sky?”

”Grandpa, people are always like this; only after losing someone do they realize how important that person was. Only then, they see how much weight they carried in their hearts, and they often dismiss it when the person is around!”
