My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2226: Chapter 2059: The Promise

”Grandpa, what does a promise even count for in the end? And what is love? I was so sincere to her, but didn’t she still just walk away from me? It’s been so many years and she hasn’t come back, not even a single message!”

”No matter what, I still hope you can pass on everything I said, all those words you mentioned, to your mom. I believe that when she hears them she should understand what they mean. The things she’s done in her life, she will absolutely never forget. She ought to know what she’s done, and that it’s time to step out and take responsibility. You can’t just shove all the blame onto others every single time and get away with it. I’ve taken the fall for her far too many times. From now on I won’t come and bother you anymore either. I feel like we don’t have that much to say to each other, because for me, having a son like you is optional, and as for me as a father, in your heart I’ve long since lost any place at all. The only things you believe are every word your mom says. Even if your mom is lying, you still believe her, while even if I’m telling the blunt truth, you still refuse to believe a single word that comes out of your own father’s mouth! I’m not afraid you won’t believe me. If you really don’t believe what I say, you can just go back and ask your mom face to face and see how she reacts. If your mom’s reaction is too intense, or way too flat and indifferent, then that means what I said is the plain truth! Honestly, sometimes I know very well that blurting out the ugly truth like this really hurts people, makes it hard for either side to accept. But if some things are never spoken, are we really going to just let them sink to the bottom of the sea for a whole lifetime? The truth will be made public someday!”

”I know, I’ll pass on every word you said to my mom when I go back. I also hope you really don’t come entangle yourself with us anymore in the future. I hope you can live up to every word you just said. Since you’ve already decided to give up on my mom, then don’t go looking for her to meet again, and don’t contact her anymore. The best would be for both of you to just change your phone numbers, right? Don’t keep anything of each other’s. Keeping it will only make your own heart hurt even more, and keep other people from living their lives happily.”

”You just need to pass on this one sentence of mine to your mom about the matter this week. You don’t have to worry. I don’t want you getting involved in the extra stuff between a husband and wife. Sometimes all I need is for you to help carry the words to the other side, that’s enough, there’s no need for you to meddle too much. You should know what kind of person your mom really is. In the end, one day you’ll see your mom’s true face clearly. I hope when that time comes you won’t regret it too much, otherwise your heart really won’t be able to bear that kind of pain and blow. All I hope is that within my remaining years I can still see my grandson for one night. I hope I can go back to my dad’s side and properly fulfill my filial duty to him. I know my dad doesn’t ever want to see this unfilial son of his again in this life, but I’m still his biological son after all; how could he just say he doesn’t want me and really not want me? I really want to go back to my dad’s side, even if in his heart there’s no longer any place for a son like me, but in my heart he is still my father forever!”

”If you want to go back and see Grandpa, then go back and see him. Actually Grandpa really misses you. During the time you’ve been gone, Grandpa kept wondering when you’d come back. He never said anything out loud, but we all know that in his heart he still misses you all so much. Because he misses you, he’s fallen sick again and again. I’m really worried his body can’t take it. But now that you’ve agreed to go back and see Grandpa, that’s the thing I’m most grateful for. If you can keep Grandpa from being so lonely, that’s the thing that makes me happiest. I just hope my Grandpa can live out the rest of his life happy and cheerful, and properly enjoy a bit of family happiness! My Grandpa’s life has been too hard, too tiring. Every time he’s always thinking about us juniors, and never about what he himself actually wants. Sometimes I really hate myself—why is my own Grandpa so good to me, and yet I don’t have any ability to keep him by my side for a lifetime, never leaving? Sometimes I really realize I’m not a Saint. Every decision you make will inevitably have to be paid for with something else. And my Grandpa, in order to raise me, to train me into something, has paid so much hardship and sweat, but in the end I still didn’t let my Grandpa live a life of happy family joy. Because my dad and mom aren’t by our side, no matter how I beg, my parents are never willing to come back to us. My dad and mom have never thought that my Grandpa and I are anything special. I don’t even understand what my dad and mom are really thinking inside. They can cast aside their own father, their own son, and their own grandson again and again—then what do they even want family for? Sometimes I just can’t figure it out. Since my dad and mom wanted to abandon me when I was only one month old, then why did they bring me into this world and let me suffer like this, what was it for? To complete the passing on of the family line? I think I’ve said a bit too much, forget it, I’ll stop. I’m going to go now. I’ll pass on what you said for you. But you’d better still go talk to him yourself, otherwise if I say it, they’ll think I’m the one sowing discord between the two of you!”

As soon as Zhang Yichen got home, Zhang Ni came running over and said to him, ”Dad, I want a little brother or sister. When are you and Mom going to have a little brother or sister for me? It’s too lonely playing all by myself in this house. I don’t want to walk the road of life without a partner in the future. I know on the road of life those other so-called people I can’t count on; the only thing I can truly count on is my own blood family. I really want to have a little brother or sister now. I want to take them to play with me and watch them grow up. I’ll take good care of them and feed them until they’re chubby and fair!”

Neither Zhang Yichen nor Ran Zhihan had expected their child to suddenly say something like this, even wanting a younger sibling? Who on earth taught her that? How could a little kid know so much? Could it be that her intelligence is really that extraordinary? A child who’s only five years old can actually know about grown-ups’ matters—this is simply unbelievable. Did she see it in some book?

”You want a little brother or sister? When Mom and Dad have time someday, we’ll have a little brother or sister for you, okay? Right now the most important thing for you is to study hard, and you must let all those people who look down on you know that looking down on you is the biggest mistake they ever made. Let them understand that abandoning you is the only mistake of their lives, and it’s a mistake that can never be made up for in this lifetime, understand?”

Perhaps this is what she really wanted. This kind of outcome isn’t something anyone can give up so easily.
