My Alleged Husband

Chapter 98: Chapter 91 Unbearable to the Heart_2

”Xia Jing, you clearly know that’s not what I meant,” Zhang Zhentian attempted to explain.

”Then tell me, what do you mean? I just can’t understand why you would choose today of all days to ask these questions. It’s my wedding day, a woman’s only wedding day, and you have the heart to say such hurtful things to me on my wedding night? How can you be so cruel?”

”Xia Jing...”

”Don’t say anything more. If I had known you would do this today, I definitely wouldn’t have married you. You’ve just let me down so much. Do you know why so many couples who’ve weathered storms together still end up separating? It’s because when two people are together, one’s feelings for the other can go from deep love to disappointment, then from disappointment to despair, and finally from despair to separation! They don’t split up because they don’t love each other anymore but because they can’t love each other anymore! I don’t want us to end up like that,” Xia Jing said in disappointment, looking at Zhang Zhentian, no longer wanting to speak to him.

”Xia Jing, I was wrong about this, don’t be angry, can we just go to sleep for now?” Zhang Zhentian tried to change the subject, thinking Xia Jing would follow his line of thought, but he didn’t expect Xia Jing to come back with a harsh retort.

”There’s no need for that, we will sleep in separate rooms starting today!” Xia Jing said as she headed to the guest room. Zhang Zhentian grabbed her from behind, truly realizing his mistake. He shouldn’t have chosen such a time and place to question Xia Jing like this.

”Xia Jing, I was wrong, please don’t go!”

”Let go of me. I can’t be with someone who says such cruel things to me, right after I’ve lived out my dream wedding. You scare me. I’m sorry, but I think it’s better for us to give each other some time to think things through before we talk face to face again. That way, we can avoid unnecessary arguments, don’t you think?” Xia Jing, restraining her anger, expressed her thoughts in that moment to Zhang Zhentian. She didn’t care about his reaction anymore; all she knew was that the man in front of her had said something hurtful on her wedding night, and she felt she couldn’t just forgive him so easily. So, she chose to escape this way.

”Xia Jing, what do you mean? Tell me exactly what you mean. I’ve already admitted my mistake, I shouldn’t have said such things in this situation, but I’ve apologized—what more do you want from me? Surely you don’t mean to sleep in separate rooms indefinitely over such a small matter?” Zhang Zhentian, also infuriated by Xia Jing, spoke without consideration of the consequences, which only fueled Xia Jing’s anger further.

”Zhang Zhentian, do you think I must forgive you every time you make a mistake? Not all mistakes can be forgiven. You’ve really disappointed me today. Do you realize my lifelong dream was to walk down the aisle with you? Today, I did walk the aisle with you, but how did you treat me? Do you have the heart to be so cruel to me during my happiest moment? Where did I go wrong, Xia Jing, that you need to treat me this way?”

”I already told you it wasn’t intentional today, I didn’t expect things to turn out this way. Please forgive me, okay?” Zhang Zhentian, heartbroken at the sight of Xia Jing’s sadness and unwilling to see her upset, decided to be the one to back down. He didn’t want things to get worse!

Xia Jing said nothing and turned around to leave. She didn’t want to have to look at Zhang Zhentian for another minute, but he still tried to hold her back.

”Xia Jing, don’t be like this, I really am sorry. It’s our wedding day, please just forgive me this once!”

”Zhentian, it’s not that I don’t want to forgive you. I just don’t know how to forgive you. Before our marriage, you’ve also said similar things to me. Back then, I chose to forgive you, thinking that after that, your doubts were gone and you had chosen to trust me completely. But I didn’t expect that you would still ask me such a question at such an important moment today. What do you want me to think? If it were you, would you be happy and willing to forgive me if I said such things to you in your happiest moment? I don’t want to argue with you, I’m tired, and I’m going to bed!”

Zhang Zhentian, seeing how firm Xia Jing was in her attitude, refrained from saying anything more about holding her back. He thought to himself: Even if you want to leave, you won’t be able to; this is our shared home. Once you fall asleep, I’ll sneak into your room and sleep with you. I refuse to believe you’ll still kick me out then!

Xia Jing was oblivious to Zhang Zhentian’s thoughts. Had she known what he was thinking, she definitely would have chosen to stay in a hotel!

In his bedroom, Old Master Zhang heard Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing arguing non-stop in the bedroom, but as an elder, he felt it wasn’t his place to say anything on their wedding night!
