My Alleged Husband

Chapter 66: Chapter 64 Many Thoughts_1

Li Haixiao looked at his daughter, her eyes brimming with tears, and felt a pang of heartache. This was the daughter he had cherished his whole life, and the thought of her leaving was unbearable. Patting her on the head, he said, ”Jiayuan, you’ll have to walk the path ahead on your own. If that so-called beloved of yours ever dares to bully you, just come back and tell Dad. I will get justice for you. In facing life’s challenges, learn to endure and not act on impulse. Since you’ve chosen him, you must cherish what you have!”

Hearing her father speak like this, Li Jiayuan couldn’t help but burst into tears. She too couldn’t bear to part with her dad, but for the sake of her love, she selfishly chose romance over family.

”Dad, I will. Please take care of yourself when you’re home alone. Don’t work too hard. I’m a regretful daughter for not being able to stay by your side. If you miss me, just call and I’ll definitely come back to see you,” Li Jiayuan sobbed to Li Haixiao.

”Go ahead, and remember to come back and see Dad when you can!” Li Haixiao, holding his daughter’s hand, said reluctantly.

Li Jiayuan smiled at her father and then turned and left. Li Haixiao’s hand was still outstretched in midair, but now it was only his own hand hanging there, as Li Jiayuan had already disappeared. Sighing, Li Haixiao muttered to himself, ”A daughter really can’t stay forever. She forgets her father for her lover!”

Li Jiayuan, crying, ran out of the house. She knew that if she hadn’t hardened her heart and run out, she might have softened at the sight of her father’s reluctance to let her go.

After running out, Li Jiayuan immediately texted Xia Jing: ”Can you meet me? I’m waiting for you at Star Coffee Shop. Don’t stand me up!”

Just out of the shower, Xia Jing heard her phone ping. Opening the message and seeing it was from Li Jiayuan, she quickly found some casual clothes and rushed to find Li Jiayuan.

PM at Star Coffee Shop.

”A year of growth for every inch of soil, a world of desire for every flower and tree... Memories scattered along the path of loving you!” As Xia Jing entered the coffee shop, the sentimental ”Peach Blossom Promise” filled the air. Xia Jing saw Li Jiayuan sitting alone, lost in thought, and walked over to her.

”Jiayuan, what’s wrong?” Xia Jing asked softly. As soon as Li Jiayuan saw it was Xia Jing, she stood up, hugged her, and began to cry. Xia Jing, taken aback by Li Jiayuan’s behavior, didn’t understand what could have upset her friend so deeply.

Half an hour later, Li Jiayuan’s crying slowed, but her tears still flowed uncontrollably. Xia Jing, seeing Li Jiayuan’s state, couldn’t resist asking what was wrong.

”Jiayuan, please stop crying. You’ve been crying for half an hour. Can you tell me what happened? If you don’t say anything, I can’t help you. Isn’t that right? If you talk about it, maybe I can help. Even if I can’t, it’s much better than bearing it alone!” Xia Jing finally couldn’t hold back any longer and asked.

”Xia Jing, do you think I’m a disloyal daughter?” Li Jiayuan asked with a hiccup.

Xia Jing, not understanding why Li Jiayuan would ask such a question, replied, ”Jiayuan, why would you say that? Did your dad say something to you?”

”No, my dad didn’t say anything. I went back to tell him I was joining the Mercenary Group, and he got very angry. But in the end, he agreed to let me join the Mercenary Group.”

”If your dad has agreed, then why are you still crying? Convincing your dad should be a happy occasion, shouldn’t it?” Xia Jing asked, perplexed.

When Li Jiayuan heard Xia Jing’s question, she started crying again, which really left Xia Jing at a loss for words. She comforted her, ”Why do you start crying without any warning? I am truly baffled by you. Can’t you just tell me what it’s all about? You are crying as if your life depended on it. Aren’t you happy that you can be with Xiao Wei?”

”Xia Jing, it’s not that I’m unhappy. You know? I’m about to leave home and abandon my dad all by himself. He’s still considering and worrying about me. He’s treated me so well, and yet I’m selfishly leaving him behind. Today, when I was at home, I saw more and more white hairs on my dad’s head. Now is the time when he needs his family the most, but I’ve abandoned him to leave on my own. Can someone like me still be considered a good child? I never thought my heart could be so cruel, to seek my own happiness and not even care about my father, who is already over fifty. People like me deserve to be struck by lightning...” Li Jiayuan said to Xia Jing in a hoarse voice, ”Xia Jing, as someone’s child, you should understand how I feel. Do you know when I left, my dad just held my hand so tightly? At that moment, I really hated myself. His palm was still so warm, but I just struggled free from his warm hands and ran away without looking back because I was afraid to see his worried eyes for me.”

Xia Jing had always found it strange that Li Haixiao easily agreed to let Li Jiayuan join the Mercenary Group, and now hearing Li Jiayuan say this, she finally understood. She hadn’t expected Li Haixiao to dote on his daughter to such an extent. Clearly he couldn’t bear to let her go, but to make his daughter happy, he still let her join the Mercenary Group. Xia Jing realized she had misunderstood Li Haixiao from the beginning. She had never believed what others said about Li Haixiao being obsessed with spoiling his daughter, but after this incident, she truly believed it!

”Jiayuan, stop crying, your dad would feel heartbroken if he knew you were crying like this. You also wouldn’t want to see your dad feeling sad because of you, right? Since you’ve already made your decision, I will help you!” Xia Jing gently patted Li Jiayuan’s back and comforted her.

”How can you help me?” When Li Jiayuan heard Xia Jing say she could help her, she perked up as if revitalized.

”All you need to do is to keep a record and stay within the group for a week. Then, once the procedures are completed, you can go back home and stay with your dad. Joining the Mercenary Group doesn’t mean you have to do something big; it’s just for you to get your credentials...” Xia Jing said to Li Jiayuan.

Li Jiayuan couldn’t believe her ears upon hearing Xia Jing’s words. She hesitantly asked, ”Are you serious? I can really just get the credentials and then go home to be with my dad?”

Seeing Li Jiayuan’s skeptical expression, Xia Jing teased her, ”If you don’t believe it, then forget it!”

”I believe it!” Li Jiayuan recalled an old saying, ”It’s better to believe it and be wrong, than to disbelieve and be wrong!”

With that sliver of hope, she waited to get her credentials.

”Have you cried enough? How come you’ve stopped crying now?” Xia Jing teased Li Jiayuan when she saw the latter had stopped crying.

”Whimper whimper whimper...” Li Jiayuan burst into tears again.

Xia Jing was truly speechless at Li Jiayuan’s tendency to burst into tears without any warning.

”Sigh, alright, Your Highness, can you stop crying, please? Things have already been resolved. If you really want to go back and accompany your old man, then you should aim to get your credentials sooner. Don’t dwell on trivial matters. And I’m asking you, please don’t cry over nothing. It’s better to spend that time working hard than crying!”

”You’re right, I’ll give you a heads up before I cry next time!” Li Jiayuan said firmly.

...

Xia Jing was at a loss for words! Seeing that she had rendered Xia Jing speechless, Li Jiayuan started to chuckle to herself on the side.
