My Alleged Husband

Chapter 85: Chapter 83 Maybe It’s Fate_1

Li Jiayuan learned from the nurse that her father had already woken up and had also asked about who the kidney donor was. Worried that the nurse might have told Li Haixiao, she hurriedly asked, ”Nurse, did you tell him who the donor was?”

The nurse knew what Li Jiayuan was worried about. She smiled at Li Jiayuan and said softly, ”No, because that is patient confidentiality. Unless the patient agrees to disclose it, we can’t tell anyone else about the patient’s condition!”

Relieved by the nurse’s answer, Li Jiayuan asked, ”How does my father’s condition look now?”

”Don’t worry; he’s doing well. It’s just that he wants to know who donated the kidney to him...”

Li Jiayuan hesitated for a moment, then said to the nurse, ”It might be better not to tell him for now. Otherwise, I’m afraid he won’t be able to handle such an outcome!”

”I understand. You get some rest. I’ll come to check on you again!”

After the nurse left, Li Jiayuan sat alone on the hospital bed, pondering: Dad, I’m sorry, I can’t tell you because I know you wouldn’t want to see this outcome. If you knew it was my kidney, you would rather die than accept it. Please forgive me for not being able to visit you recently. When I’m a little better, I will come to see you!

While Li Jiayuan was lost in thought, Xiao Wei quietly came in. He saw Li Jiayuan sitting alone on the bed, looking at her just out of surgery, and his heart ached terribly. He remembered the moment Li Jiayuan was wheeled out of the operating room, her face deathly pale, devoid of any vitality.

Xiao Wei had secretly gone to the hospital to test for compatibility, intending to donate his kidney to Li Haixiao. Sadly, the results were not a match, and he couldn’t donate his kidney to Li Haixiao. His actions were meant to spare Li Jiayuan from the pain of surgery, but in the end, he couldn’t change the outcome of her becoming the donor. Perhaps it was fate!

Xiao Wei gently walked to the bedside, sat down, and held Li Jiayuan. She couldn’t help but burst into tears.

”It’s all over now, don’t cry!” Xiao Wei comforted Li Jiayuan, but as it often goes, the more someone tries to console you when you’re sad, the more it hurts.

Li Jiayuan cried out heart-wrenchingly, and Xiao Wei could do nothing but hold her, remaining close until she cried herself to sleep. Only then, with reluctance, did he lay Li Jiayuan down on the bed. After he made sure she was covered with the blanket, he went out to inquire about Li Haixiao’s condition with the doctors.

”Doctor, may I ask if after a successful surgery there won’t be any problems?”

The doctor shook his head.

”Doctor, what do you mean by shaking your head?” Xiao Wei didn’t understand why the doctor shook his head and asked anxiously.

”It’s hard to say. It all depends on the patient’s physical condition. If there’s no rejection, there shouldn’t be any major problems. As long as proper rest is maintained afterward, a relapse won’t occur. However, if a relapse does happen, it will be very difficult to treat. I believe you know how hard it is to find a suitable kidney donor!” The doctor sighed helplessly as he spoke to Xiao Wei.

”So what you’re saying is, there could be a relapse if he’s not careful?” Xiao Wei asked the doctor again.

”Exactly!” The doctor nodded affirmatively.

Xiao Wei hadn’t realized Li Haixiao’s condition was so serious. Li Jiayuan had already donated one kidney, and that still wasn’t enough. He really worried about what Li Jiayuan would do if Li Haixiao relapsed. It was hard to imagine whether Li Jiayuan would donate her only kidney to her father again.

A month later, Li Jiayuan could get out of bed and walk around, but Li Haixiao still couldn’t move and had to continue lying in bed.

Through the long stay in the hospital, with Xiao Wei always by her side, Li Jiayuan finally understood that only those who stand by you through every difficulty, without leaving or giving up, are the ones who truly love you. She felt so grateful that she hadn’t chosen the wrong person in the past.

”Silly girl, what are you thinking about? You’re so engrossed!” Xiao Wei’s voice rang in Li Jiayuan’s ears.

Looking up at Xiao Wei’s smiling face, she said, ”Big fool, I was thinking that I’ve chosen a good boyfriend. Thank you for always being by my side.”

Xiao Wei didn’t expect Li Jiayuan to suddenly thank him!

”What are we to each other?” he asked.

”Fiancé and fiancée!” she replied.

”So why do you still thank me?”

”No need to say thanks!”

”That settles it, then. If I ever hear you say ’thank you’ to me again, you’re in for a punishment.”

”Understood!”

They continued to exchange words that made them happy within the confines of the hospital room. Xiao Wei looked at Li Jiayuan, who had regained her healthy complexion, and he finally let go of the worry in his heart. He slowly leaned in toward Li Jiayuan, and just as his lips were about to touch hers, Li Jiayuan suddenly said, ”Ah, I forgot—I don’t know how my dad is doing. I want to go see him!”

Xiao Wei’s mood was interrupted by Li Jiayuan, and with a stern face that showed no pleasure, he said, ”You’re such a buzzkill. I don’t want to talk to you!”

Li Jiayuan had no idea why Xiao Wei’s sunny expression had suddenly turned stormy.

”What’s wrong? Where did I kill the mood? Shouldn’t I go see my dad?” Li Jiayuan asked, puzzled.

Xiao Wei felt utterly dejected. He thought if only he could read fortunes, then he would know when Li Jiayuan would stop being such a buzzkill!

”No, it’s not that I think you shouldn’t see Uncle, but why did you have to bring it up right now instead of earlier or later?” Xiao Wei asked with a gloomy face.

”What’s wrong with saying it now? Is this time any different from any other?” Li Jiayuan asked Xiao Wei, tilting her head.

Xiao Wei didn’t even know how to explain it to Li Jiayuan; he was too embarrassed to say it outright. But Li Jiayuan was such an oblivious girl, completely unaware of the simplest things. Xiao Wei really wanted to lay down the law with her on the spot.

”Never mind, let’s go see Uncle together!” Xiao Wei let out a deep sigh as he spoke to Li Jiayuan.

”Let’s go!”

Li Jiayuan was very enthusiastic this time, grabbing Xiao Wei’s hand and running outside.

Li Jiayuan pushed open the door to Li Haixiao’s hospital room. As Li Haixiao looked up and saw Li Jiayuan walking in, he smiled and said to her, ”Jiayuan, where have you been all this time? Why haven’t you come to see your dad?”

Looking like he was just recovering from a serious illness, Li Haixiao, despite having undergone surgery, did not recover as quickly as Li Jiayuan. His face had regained color, but his hair had turned almost completely white. Seeing her father’s whitened hair made Li Jiayuan’s heart ache. She spoke to Li Haixiao, ”Dad, I’m sorry I haven’t been able to visit you during this time. How are you feeling?”

”Dad is much better now. I don’t even know who the kind-hearted person was who donated their precious kidney to me. This person didn’t even leave their name, so I have no way to thank them...”

Li Haixiao said weakly to Li Jiayuan. When she heard Li Haixiao’s words, Li Jiayuan’s grip on his hand twitched. Noticing something was off with Li Jiayuan, he quickly asked, ”Jiayuan, do you know who this kind person is? Tell your dad quickly, I need to properly thank them!”

”Dad, how could I possibly know? When I went to look for that person, they had already been discharged, so I had no way of finding them. You should just focus on getting better. Maybe you’ll meet them again if it’s meant to be,” Li Jiayuan consoled Li Haixiao.

Li Haixiao patted Li Jiayuan’s hand and said to her, ”Jiayuan, how come you’ve lost weight after not seeing you for just over a month? Did Xiao Wei bully you, or have you not been eating well?”

Li Jiayuan was stunned, not expecting that her father could tell she might have lost weight just by touching her hand. Upon hearing Li Haixiao’s words, Xiao Wei’s eyes widened even more. He thought to himself: What does he mean I’ve bullied Li Jiayuan into not eating properly? I haven’t even had a chance to kiss her in over a month, let alone bully her. Who would dare!

Seeing Xiao Wei’s indignant face made Li Jiayuan think it was so funny.

”Dad, get some rest. I’ll come to see you again tomorrow!” After saying that, Li Jiayuan left Li Haixiao’s hospital room and went back to her own room, where she couldn’t help but burst into loud laughter.

Xiao Wei rolled his eyes at Li Jiayuan a few times, which she pretended not to see and kept laughing. Xiao Wei just casually sat down in a chair, watching Li Jiayuan laugh away!
