My Alleged Husband

Chapter 67: Chapter 65 Strive Harder_1

Xia Jing saw that Li Jiayuan was already in the mood to joke with her and knew that Li Jiayuan’s spirits had greatly improved. She said, ”Not bad, you’re already in the mood to joke with me now. It seems you’ve figured things out.”

Li Jiayuan gave an embarrassed smile and said to Xia Jing, ”Sorry about that, I lost my composure just now!”

”Oh, Miss Li even realizes she lost her composure now? Shouldn’t you be glad that it’s me here with you and not someone else?” Xia Jing asked with a mischievous look.

Li Jiayuan knew who Xia Jing meant by ”someone else.” She bashfully nodded at Xia Jing and said, ”You’re right. Thankfully, I lost my composure in front of you and not him. Otherwise, I would have really embarrassed myself!”

Xia Jing was somewhat unused to Li Jiayuan’s straightforwardness and thought that the rumors about her weren’t true at all. The rumors claimed that Li Jiayuan spoke so tactfully, acted so decisively... but from what she saw now, Li Jiayuan’s speech wasn’t tactful at all; in fact, it was blunt.

”By the way, Xia Jing, I hope you won’t tell Xiao Wei about me joining the Mercenary Group just yet. I’m afraid he won’t agree with me joining!”

”Eh, how come I’m finding out that you know Xiao Wei better than I do? Tell me, when did you two hit it off?” Xia Jing stared at Li Jiayuan with feigned seriousness that didn’t stop.

Feeling uneasy under Xia Jing’s constant stare, Li Jiayuan quickly said, ”Why are you staring at me non-stop? It’s as if I’ve done something wrong and you’re like a judge interrogating a criminal, it feels so weird.”

”Weird? You still haven’t answered me about when you and Xiao Wei became an item,” Xia Jing knew that Li Jiayuan was saying all this to dodge the question. But how could Xia Jing let Li Jiayuan off the hook so easily? She pressed her for an answer relentlessly.

Li Jiayuan felt helpless; seeing Xia Jing’s determined looks, she knew she wouldn’t be able to leave without giving a clear answer.

”When else could it be, if not after you helped us get together?” Li Jiayuan finally opened up to Xia Jing.

Xia Jing didn’t bother to listen to Li Jiayuan’s explanation and said, ”I knew you wouldn’t confess. But it’s fine if you don’t tell me. I’ll just call Xiao Wei now and tell him about you joining the mercenaries!”

Li Jiayuan was stunned. She didn’t expect Xia Jing to play dirty and threaten her like that, and she just stared at Xia Jing without speaking.

”What are you glaring at me for? Why are you still not talking?” Xia Jing spoke and proceeded to take out her phone.

Li Jiayuan kept her silence, refusing to believe that Xia Jing would really call Xiao Wei.

Seeing Li Jiayuan stubbornly silent, Xia Jing dialed the number. When Li Jiayuan heard the call had been placed, she hastily said, ”Okay, okay, I’ll talk! Just hang up, will you?”

After ending the call, Xia Jing demanded, ”Come on, spit it out. I’m still waiting to hear it!”

Li Jiayuan felt exasperated. Who demands to hear something while impatiently urging on the side?

Seeing Li Jiayuan hesitating, Xia Jing shook her phone in front of her eyes. With no choice left, Li Jiayuan said, ”I really found out so much only after you matched me with Xiao Wei. Xiao Wei told me all about his personal feelings. How could I not know what kind of a person he is?”

Without any comment, Xia Jing rolled her eyes at Li Jiayuan and said, ”Miss Li, I’m bestowing upon you an eye roll. Interpret that as you will!”

Li Jiayuan was taken aback, thinking to herself: There’s such a way to give commentary? Amazing, and I had no idea all along!

”Is it okay now?” Li Jiayuan asked Xia Jing.

At this moment, Xia Jing burst into laughter. Li Jiayuan didn’t know what Xia Jing was laughing about, and she asked, ”What are you laughing at? Did I say something wrong?”

Li Jiayuan was very puzzled. She didn’t know why Xia Jing was laughing because she didn’t think there was any reason to.

”No, it’s nothing, I just find it really funny.” Xia Jing couldn’t hide her amusement and just laughed there.

”Spit it out, what are you really laughing at?” Li Jiayuan asked, rolling her eyes.

”Really, it’s nothing. I just think you’re so silly, even Xiao Wei was right about that, you are silly.” Xia Jing unapologetically revealed what she was laughing about, and seeing Li Jiayuan staring at her, she continued, ”But you know, I don’t think you are silly at all, it’s just that women in love are fools.”

Li Jiayuan didn’t understand why Xia Jing would suddenly say that about her, and she was a bit upset. ”Xia Jing, make yourself clear, why are you suddenly calling me a fool? If you don’t explain yourself, I won’t let this go!”

Li Jiayuan was determined to make Xia Jing spell out what she was laughing at, even using a threatening tone.

The more Xia Jing thought about it, the funnier it seemed. She coughed lightly and tried to speak calmly, ”It’s really nothing much, the person I was on the phone with just now wasn’t Xiao Wei, it was Zhang Zhentian. I’m laughing because you didn’t even figure out who I was talking to before you hurriedly confessed, hahaha....”

...

Li Jiayuan didn’t expect Xia Jing to be so cunning, nor did she expect to fall for Xia Jing’s trap so easily.

”Xia Jing, quit laughing already, what’s there to laugh about? Why don’t you tell me about what’s going on between you and Zhang Zhentian? I want to know what you two have been through!”

Xia Jing was originally laughing at Li Jiayuan’s naivety but suddenly stopped when Li Jiayuan asked her this question. The relationship between her and Zhang Zhentian had also been quite a challenging journey.

”Sigh, you don’t know what it’s been like between Zhentian and me? Have you forgotten? It was all because of you that he and I have broken up and gotten back together so many times! [wipe sweat/wipe sweat]” Xia Jing was at a loss for words. It was all because of Li Jiayuan that she and Zhang Zhentian had such a tumultuous relationship, and now it seemed to have a different meaning coming from her mouth.

”Ugh, don’t put it like that, it wasn’t intentional at that time, how could I have known that I would end up being good friends with you? Besides, you see, I don’t act like that anymore, right?” Li Jiayuan’s face changed as soon as she heard what Xia Jing said, because she knew Xia Jing was not wrong, and by speaking so openly, Xia Jing was no longer holding a grudge for past mistakes.

”I know you’re not messing with Zhentian and my relationship anymore, so I’ve forgiven you. We’re good friends now, so why talk about holding grudges?” Xia Jing looked at Li Jiayuan, who appeared wronged, and said, ”Jiayuan, if you’re sincerely hoping to be with Xiao Wei, then you must work hard to get that qualification. Normally, as a person in charge, I shouldn’t reveal this to you, but since we’re good friends, I’ll give you a hint. You have to go through training to get the qualification. Don’t think the training is easy. It’s devilishly tough, conducted by instructors. Only the best-performing individuals can pass the preliminary round, and even that’s quite difficult. So remember this phrase ’try, and try, and try again’ because only those who strive with all they’ve got can satisfy the instructors and get the qualification!”

Xia Jing told Li Jiayuan the hard truth, hoping Li Jiayuan could pass the test, for she feared Li Jiayuan might be eliminated carelessly.

”Don’t worry, I understand, thank you, Xia Jing!”

Xia Jing said nothing more, just gave a faint smile.

...

The two of them chatted in the coffee shop, back and forth, into the wee hours of the night!
