My Alleged Husband

Chapter 88: Chapter 86: Revealing the Truth_1

Li Haixiao was worried that his condition might have worsened again, and he looked at Li Jiayuan with such anticipation. Li Jiayuan just stared back at him dumbly, without saying a word!

”Jiayuan, did the doctor say whether my condition has deteriorated again?” Li Haixiao asked anxiously.

Li Jiayuan remained silent, waiting for Li Haixiao to continue.

”Ah, perhaps this is really my fate. If my illness has really worsened, I don’t think it’s a big deal. It’s just a pity for the kind person who donated their kidney to me. A kidney is so important to a person, and they just gave it to me like that...” Li Haixiao said with a heavy sigh.

Li Jiayuan felt a twinge in her nose as she stood by. She thought about how heartbroken her father would be if she told him now.

”Dad, you’re overthinking it. The doctor said you’re fine now. As long as you have regular check-ups, there won’t be any problems. So please, keep your heart in your belly and stop worrying,” Li Jiayuan finally spoke to Li Haixiao.

”Really?” Li Haixiao couldn’t believe that he might actually be alright.

”Yes, the doctor told me himself. If you don’t believe me, you can go ask the doctor yourself!”

Upon hearing this, Li Haixiao finally felt relieved. It wasn’t that he hadn’t lived enough, but rather because he, known to the world as a father insanely fond of his daughter, couldn’t bear to leave his precious child.

”Dad, I’ll pack your things. We’ll be discharged and go home tomorrow!”

Li Haixiao responded with an acknowledgment but then fell silent. He planned to check who had donated the kidney to him after being discharged. He was skeptical about the coincidence that a suitable donor appeared just as his condition became critical. He had suspected that Li Jiayuan may have been the donor. But when he saw her come to visit him full of life, he dismissed the idea, not believing that someone without a kidney could recover in just one month!

Every time Li Jiayuan visited Li Haixiao, she would always find a way to hide her own condition. Although she recovered quickly, she still felt pain when walking. It was not that she wanted to get out of bed and walk in just a month, but she knew if she didn’t visit her father for too long, Li Haixiao would certainly become suspicious. So, enduring the pain, she insisted on visiting him every day and had to act completely uninjured whenever she saw him, careful not to let her sensitive and suspicious father discover the truth.

After leaving Li Haixiao’s hospital room, Li Jiayuan immediately called Xiao Wei.

”Could you come pick me up? I’m at the hospital entrance!” Li Jiayuan said weakly to Xiao Wei.

Hearing something was amiss in Li Jiayuan’s voice, Xiao Wei hurriedly drove to the hospital. When he arrived, he found Li Jiayuan curled up in pain on the ground and rushed to her side.

”Are you okay? Why are you in so much pain today?” Xiao Wei knew that Li Jiayuan always hurt after forcing herself to move, but he didn’t understand why she was in such extreme pain this time.

”You’re here; I’m fine. Help me up; I’ll be okay after resting a bit!” Li Jiayuan’s words came out in gasps. She felt so tired and said to Xiao Wei, ”I feel so sleepy; I really want to sleep!”

Xiao Wei feared that once Li Jiayuan fell asleep, it would be a while before she woke up again. He said to her, ”Jiayuan, you can’t sleep. We’re going to try on wedding dresses, remember? You always wanted to marry me quickly, right? Let’s go try our wedding clothes now, okay? Don’t fall asleep, do you hear?”

Li Jiayuan struggled to keep her eyes, which were nearly closing, open. She really had no strength left to speak. Her hands felt like they had stiffened, and she could not move them. With difficulty, she said to Xiao Wei, ”Dear, can you just let me sleep a little?”

”No, you can’t sleep. You have to keep your eyes open and look at me. With such a handsome boyfriend, would you really want to close your eyes?” Xiao Wei said to her with self-admiration.

”I don’t want to sleep, but I really am so tired. Can I just sleep a little while, just a little?” Li Jiayuan said, and as she did, her eyes closed—not from sleep, but because she had passed out.

Xiao Wei immediately picked her up and rushed to the emergency room, but nurses stopped him at the door. As he watched anxiously with no sign of Li Jiayuan coming out, his heart raced with worry.

Four hours later, the doctors wheeled Li Jiayuan out. A nurse took her back to her hospital room, and the doctor told Xiao Wei, ”Do you know that with her condition, having lost a kidney, she must rest in bed? Even if she can move around, it wasn’t meant for her to engage in strenuous activity. Are you aware that doing so might leave her unable to stand for the rest of her life? Please ensure she doesn’t try to move around for the next month!”

”Doctor, are you saying my girlfriend might lose her ability to move if she’s not careful?” Xiao Wei asked incredulously.

”That’s right. I’ve said my part; the rest is up to you, the family, to monitor the patient.” The doctor left after speaking, leaving Xiao Wei standing there, stunned and alone.

Hospital room.

”Jiayuan, you’re awake, do you know you scared me to death this time!” Xiao Wei was overjoyed to see Li Jiayuan awake.

”I’m fine, I want to go see my father!” Li Jiayuan started to get out of bed as she spoke, but Xiao Wei quickly stopped her.

Li Jiayuan didn’t understand why Xiao Wei had never stopped her before, but today he did!

”Xiao Wei, why are you stopping me?”

”Jiayuan, you can’t get out of bed and move around for the next month, otherwise, you’ll lose the ability to walk. The doctor said it’s because you got out of bed and engaged in intense activity too early, that’s why this happened!”

Li Jiayuan couldn’t be happy now; she still wanted to see her father, how could she just rest in bed like this?

”Jiayuan, don’t even think about playing any tricks on me. You just lie quietly in bed, or else I’ll tell uncle that it was you who gave your kidney funds to him. You don’t want your uncle to feel heartbroken and upset before he even leaves the hospital, do you?”

”Fine!” Li Jiayuan was so angry she wanted to tear Xiao Wei into pieces, but she still couldn’t bring herself to do it.

Xiao Wei really was formidable, just a few words and he made Li Jiayuan give in!

Xiao Wei asked Li Jiayuan to rest there and warned her not to cause any trouble; Li Jiayuan had no choice but to obediently lie in bed.

Xiao Wei went to Li Haixiao’s hospital ward: ”Uncle, there’s something I want to tell you, and I hope you won’t get too worked up after hearing it!”

Li Haixiao didn’t expect Xiao Wei to come to see him alone, and he said to Xiao Wei, ”Alright, tell me!”

”Uncle, you’ve always wanted to know who donated the kidney to you, right? I’m going to tell you now!”

”You know?”

”Yes, it’s someone you know, she is — Jiayuan!” Xiao Wei finally revealed the truth.

Li Haixiao couldn’t believe what Xiao Wei was saying and questioned back, ”How could it be Jiayuan, she’s been well and coming to see me every day!”

”I know you might not be able to accept this right away, but what I’m saying is true. Jiayuan didn’t tell you because she didn’t want you to worry, and it’s to avoid your suspicion that she got out of bed to visit you just one month after the operation. It’s because of this she fainted today. The doctor said if she gets out of bed and moves around within the next month, she might never be able to stand up again.”

Li Haixiao was shocked when he heard these words from Xiao Wei. He had not realized that Li Jiayuan had done so well, being by his side every day, without him noticing at all!

”Uncle, I hope you don’t feel any pressure because of this. Jiayuan doesn’t want you to be unhappy because of her. I’m telling you this so you can stay in the hospital longer, and you can leave together with Jiayuan once she’s better. I also hope you can persuade Jiayuan to rest properly!”

”Okay, I understand. I will go see her. Xiao Wei, uncle has something he wants to discuss with you!”

”Please go ahead!”

”Once we are both out of the hospital, marry Jiayuan!” Li Haixiao said to Xiao Wei.

”Of course, even if you didn’t mention it, I would marry her!” Xiao Wei replied confidently to Li Haixiao.

Li Haixiao was growing more and more fond of this son-in-law! Sometimes, Li Haixiao couldn’t help but think: if he had agreed earlier to them being together, would they have avoided so many problems? If he had accepted treatment earlier, would Li Jiayuan not have had to give up a kidney for him? If he had recognized Xiao Wei’s worth sooner, could Li Jiayuan have suffered less? He now truly hoped Li Jiayuan would recover soon, and then he wanted to give Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei a grand and enviable wedding, laying aside all past grudges and not opposing Zhang Corporation any longer. He decided to give Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei a happy home they deserved!

Li Jiayuan was still lying on the hospital bed, unaware that Xiao Wei had already told her father all of the truth!
