My Alleged Husband

Chapter 83: Chapter 81: Never Part, Never Abandon_1

Li Jiayuan watched Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian’s love for each other, and although she was quite jealous of how well Zhentian treated Jing, she still sincerely wished the best for them. Li Jiayuan knew better than anyone the efforts that had led to the outcome between Zhentian and Jing; she understood that when an inexplicable other woman appears in a couple’s relationship, and they still end up together, their affection must be profound. Such feelings are not the kind to be taken lightly!

”Jiayuan, what are you thinking about?” Xiao Wei noticed Li Jiayuan’s distracted look and became curious about her thoughts, so he couldn’t resist asking her.

Li Jiayuan was snapped back to reality from her own world by Xiao Wei’s shout and responded, ”I wasn’t thinking about anything!”

Xiao Wei, unsatisfied with Li Jiayuan’s answer, sighed and said to her, ”I didn’t think you would need to resort to lies to hide something from me. Do you really think you can deceive me that easily? Jiayuan, I don’t want there to be secrets between us. I hope you can be honest with me. The person I want to marry is someone who will never deceive me with lies, not someone who hides things and doesn’t tell me about them...”

Li Jiayuan hadn’t expected Xiao Wei to be so sensitive. She had just zoned out for a moment, and he had sensed that she was keeping something from him. Was this kind of man really suitable for her? But now that she had made her choice, was there any room for regret?

Xiao Wei seemed to see through Li Jiayuan’s thoughts and spoke slowly, ”If you have any other thoughts about our relationship, you can tell me directly. Don’t try to deceive me with tricks because I’m not so easily fooled.”

At that moment, Li Jiayuan felt somewhat afraid of Xiao Wei. She hesitated before telling him, ”I won’t regret my decision. The path I’ve chosen leaves no room for regret. Once we’ve decided to be together, no matter what the end of this road will be, I won’t easily give up!”

”You don’t regret it?”

”There’s nothing to regret. You want to know what I was daydreaming about just now? Well, I’ll tell you. I think your proposal wasn’t as romantic as the one Zhentian prepared for Xia Jing. I’ve come to see that Zhentian and Jing truly have a great relationship. You know, I caused a lot of trouble between them in the past. I tried everything to break them up, but I never succeeded!” Li Jiayuan confided her inner thoughts to Xiao Wei.

”So, do you still want to break them up now?” Xiao Wei asked Li Jiayuan.

Li Jiayuan shook her head and looked at Xiao Wei, ”No, I don’t think that way anymore because I believe a couple with good feelings for each other should be blessed, not continuously torn apart. Moreover, Jing is now my best friend. Come to think of it, I should thank them; if it weren’t for them, how would I have met you? How could I have the chance to spend a lifetime with you?”

Xiao Wei truly hadn’t expected Li Jiayuan to be so open with her feelings. He looked at her and didn’t say anything for a long time. Li Jiayuan, after waiting and still not hearing him speak, initiated the conversation, ”Xiao Wei, I want to ask you a question!”

”Go ahead!”

”I want to know who is more important in your heart, me or Xia Jing?” Li Jiayuan tilted her head and looked at Xiao Wei, anticipating his response.

Xiao Wei found the question too difficult. He began, ”Jiayuan, to be honest, I don’t know how to answer that question. You are my fiancée, which means we are meant to be together for life, and that’s certainly important. But Elder Sister Xia is also very important to me. You must have known that I’ve been an orphan since I was a child. Without Elder Sister Xia, I couldn’t have survived to this day. She looked after me as I grew up, she gave me a new life, so she’s important too!”

Li Jiayuan, still not giving up, asked, ”Then, if both of you fell into the water and you only had time to save one person, who would you save?”

Xiao Wei, looking into Li Jiayuan’s hopeful eyes, didn’t know how to respond. He was very clear that no matter who he chose to save, it would hurt the other, another person who loved him.

”What’s the matter, why aren’t you speaking? Just say it. No matter what your answer is, I won’t leave you!” Li Jiayuan said to Xiao Wei with a forced smile.

”I won’t save anyone. I would drown with both of you!” Xiao Wei declared firmly.

This response was something Li Jiayuan hadn’t anticipated.

”It seems you and Xia Jing must be very close!” Li Jiayuan said with a bitter smile, ”Xiao Wei, to be honest, I never saw this answer coming. I thought that at least you would save one of us, even if that person weren’t me. But I didn’t expect you to say something like this...”

”Jiayuan, do you really think I’m dumb? If I could only save one, then it’d be better not to save at all, because saving one means losing another I love. If that’s the case, it’d be better for me to die with you both!”

Before Xiao Wei could finish, Li Jiayuan placed her finger on his lips and whispered, ”Don’t talk so lightly about life and death. We won’t have that kind of day. Xiao Wei, can you give me a promise?”

Xiao Wei didn’t understand why Li Jiayuan was asking for a promise. He looked at her quizzically, and Li Jiayuan explained, ”Don’t get me wrong, this promise isn’t about you sacrificing anything for me. I just hope you can make a commitment regarding our relationship, that’s all!”

”Alright, listen then. By the heavens above, in this lifetime, I, Xiao Wei, will have only Li Jiayuan as my woman. I will only love Li Jiayuan for the rest of my life. I will never abandon her, I will protect her for eternity. I will never let her suffer any grievances. Should she be in danger, I will devote my life to her protection, ensuring her safety. If I break this oath, let me die by the chaos of kinship, never to rise again, with the heavens as my witness!”

As Li Jiayuan listened to Xiao Wei say these words, she felt deeply moved and responded, ”By the heavens above, in this life, I, Li Jiayuan, will have only Xiao Wei as my husband. No matter what he does wrong in the future, I will understand him and never do anything to hurt him. I will ensure: no separation, no abandonment, together forever. If I, Li Jiayuan, break this oath, let me live a life of loneliness, with the heavens as my witness!”

Xiao Wei hadn’t expected a lady who once stood so high above all others to pledge such a solemn vow for him. How could he not be moved by a wife like her?

”Jiayuan, thank you. I hope we can stay together forever. Let’s not forget the promises we’ve made to each other, alright?” Xiao Wei took Li Jiayuan’s hand, speaking earnestly.

”Okay! Oh, Xiao Wei, I haven’t gone back to tell Dad about you agreeing to marry into the family. I need to go back and tell him this good news.”

Xiao Wei felt Li Jiayuan was such a buzzkill. Just when he was about to get to the exciting part, she interrupted him so thoughtlessly!

”Alright then, remember to send my regards to Uncle when you go back!”

”No problem, I’m off then, see you later!”

”See you later!”

Li Jiayuan turned and ran, leaving Xiao Wei alone in Stardust Legend!
