My Alleged Husband

Chapter 64: Chapter 62: Whitewashing_1

Li Jiayuan took a sip of water. She heard Xia Jing murmuring to herself and asked, ”Xia Jing, what are you mumbling about there? Share it with us.”

Xia Jing suddenly snapped back to reality, ”I didn’t say anything. You still haven’t told me why you suddenly asked about whitewashing?”

Li Jiayuan sighed. She told Xia Jing everything that Xiao Wei had said to her, and Xia Jing sighed after hearing it.

”No, Xia Jing, why are you sighing with me? Being with Zhang Zhentian is so much easier for you than being with Xiao Wei is for me!” Li Jiayuan complained.

Xia Jing didn’t understand what Li Jiayuan meant and asked, ”Jiayuan, why do you say that? Have you thought about how much effort I’ve put into being with Zhentian? Do you think it was easier for me than for you? Tell me, wasn’t Xiao Wei easy to accept you...”

After thinking it over, Li Jiayuan felt Xia Jing was right. Compared to those who gave everything for happiness, she really had it much easier.

”Xia Jing, let’s not talk about this anymore. Is it hard to whitewash yourself? Tell me quickly,” Li Jiayuan asked eagerly, grabbing Xia Jing’s hand.

Before, when Xia Jing heard Xiao Wei call Li Jiayuan ”silly white sweet,” she thought it was a mistake. Now it seemed it wasn’t; she was indeed silly. Even a fool knew how hard it was to whitewash.

Xia Jing sighed and said to Li Jiayuan, ”Jiayuan, I always thought you were pretty smart. Why do I suddenly feel you’re quite foolish? Everyone knows whitewashing is hard, and you even come to ask me if it’s difficult? I’m speechless!”

”Is whitewashing really hard? Why did it seem so easy when Xiao Wei talked about it?” Li Jiayuan asked, somewhat incredulously.

”Jiayuan, Xiao Wei doesn’t want you to worry. By rights, I shouldn’t be telling you how serious this matter is, but since you’re asking and we’re already good friends, it would be wrong of me not to tell you the truth,” Xia Jing considered and then said to Li Jiayuan.

”Alright, alright, tell me, how serious is this matter?” Li Jiayuan asked.

”Well, let me tell you, whitewashing isn’t just a little difficult. It involves clarifying all the bad things you’ve done, and if there’s a murder case involved, it’s even harder. Some people get hunted down by enemies while they’re trying to whitewash...”

”How can it be so serious? No, I have to tell him not to do it!”

After saying this, Li Jiayuan stood up and was about to leave when Xia Jing pulled her back and said, ”If it were anyone else, I’d say there’s no need to whitewash. But if Xiao Wei wants to be with you, he must do it.”

”Why?”

”Jiayuan, have you ever considered whether your father would agree to let a mercenary man be with you for a lifetime? Are you sure he won’t look down on Xiao Wei if he doesn’t whitewash? Won’t he say hurtful things? You can’t control a situation like that. Do you understand?” Xia Jing explained to Li Jiayuan.

”Isn’t there any way he can avoid whitewashing and still be with me?”

Upon hearing Li Jiayuan say this, Xia Jing started to hesitate. It wasn’t that there was no way, but she didn’t know how to tell Li Jiayuan, especially since she knew Li Jiayuan must have a reason for saying this; she wouldn’t say it for no reason.

Seeing Xia Jing’s hesitation, Li Jiayuan instantly knew that Xia Jing had a solution. She called Xia Jing back from her reverie, ”Xia Jing, why aren’t you speaking? You have a solution, don’t you? Tell me quickly!”

”Jiayuan, telling you the solution is useless. It’s better not to tell you at all!”

”How could that be? It’ll work, just tell me quickly.” Li Jiayuan was extremely anxious. To find out the method, she even resorted to a pleading tone.

Xia Jing had no choice but to tell her the method.

”Jiayuan, it’s not that there isn’t a way, it’s just that it may not be something you can do, and even if you’re willing, your dad will never agree,” Xia Jing said, preparing Li Jiayuan for the worst.

”The method is for you to join the mercenaries as well,” Xia Jing suggested. ”That way, he won’t have to go legit, and you can stay with him forever. But your dad will never agree to this, so...” Xia Jing shrugged helplessly at Li Jiayuan.

After hearing Xia Jing’s suggestion, Li Jiayuan thought it was a good idea since she had already considered it before. But now, she was worried again, thinking, ’Ah, how can I get my dad to agree to let me join the mercenaries? Given his personality, it’s probably going to be tough!’

The more Li Jiayuan thought about it, the heavier her sighs became. She had initially thought it wouldn’t be very difficult, but after hearing Xia Jing’s analysis, she realized the hardest part would be to explain it to her own father.

”Xia Jing, do you have any way of helping me persuade my dad to let me join your ranks?” Li Jiayuan was too lazy to think further and asked Xia Jing directly.

”Jiayuan, that’s your dad. If he won’t agree when you talk to him yourself, do you think he’d agree if an outsider like me brought it up? That’s completely impossible! But if you try talking to him yourself, there might be a glimmer of hope. After all, everyone knows your dad loves you the most, he’s always treated you like his precious treasure,” Xia Jing advised.

Li Jiayuan thought about it and suddenly had a bold idea. She excitedly said to Xia Jing, ”Xia Jing, my dad loves me so much, if I tell him that I’ll commit suicide if he doesn’t agree, do you think he might consent?”

Li Jiayuan raised her eyebrows at Xia Jing after making her suggestion, leaving Xia Jing shocked by her idea.

”I never realized that someone who looks as gentle and delicate as you could have such courage. I’m impressed!” Xia Jing complimented Li Jiayuan earnestly.

Li Jiayuan laughed sheepishly and said to Xia Jing, ”Oh come on, don’t tease me. Just tell me, what do you think about my idea?”

Xia Jing was amazed at Li Jiayuan’s imagination and said to her, ”It’s not bad, a good idea indeed. But if you really do that, you won’t be able to come in for the rest of your life!”

Li Jiayuan was happy to hear the first part of Xia Jing’s response and for a moment thought herself quite clever, but after hearing the rest, she felt deflated like a wilted flower.

”Sigh, I guess I’ll have to think of another plan!”

Xia Jing checked the time and said to Li Jiayuan, ”Jiayuan, I have some things to do. Why don’t you head back first, and I’ll look for you another day!”

Li Jiayuan found talking with Xia Jing quite enjoyable, and she didn’t feel like leaving as the conversation went on. After a while, she finally said, ”Alright then, just remember to look for me. Oh, and don’t tell Xiao Wei about our conversation today, or I’ll get mad and stop talking to you!”

”Don’t worry, I won’t tell!”

Li Jiayuan repeatedly reminded Xia Jing before she felt reassured enough to leave. As she walked away, glancing back every few steps, Xia Jing said helplessly, ”You’d better go back and think about how to make your dad agree.”

Thinking of the task at hand, Li Jiayuan waved to Xia Jing and hurried back. She needed to discuss the matter with her father before it was too late to negotiate properly.
