My Alleged Husband

Chapter 82: Chapter 80: Giving You What You Want_1

Zhang Zhentian returned home and immediately called Xia Jing to tell her to meet him inside Stardust Legend.

Zhang Zhentian had decorated the entire Stardust Legend to look like a real ”Stardust Legend,” spending over thirteen million to prepare the venue for his confession to Xia Jing. He wondered if Xia Jing would be moved to tears when she found out.

An hour later, at Stardust Legend.

”Eh, why is it so dark here? Didn’t Zhentian say we were meeting here? How can we meet when it’s this dark...” Xia Jing muttered to herself.

Seeing no one around, Xia Jing decided to leave, but at that moment, something hit her on the head—it was a wad of paper. She bent down to pick it up and saw a conspicuous line: Please push open the doors of Stardust Legend!

Xia Jing hesitated for a moment, but she still pushed open the doors of Stardust Legend. She carefully felt her way forward step by step, and when she reached the center, she stepped right onto a trigger Zhang Zhentian had set up. With a ”ding,” several lights in the sky turned on, and a shower of rose petals gently fell on Xia Jing’s head. The roses danced in the air, propelled by electric fans. Xia Jing looked up at the roses, unsure of how to describe the scene.

Another paper wad hit Xia Jing from above with a message: To see me, please come to the rooftop!

Xia Jing did as the note instructed and headed to the rooftop. When she got there, she saw a sight she had never imagined.

Bannered across were a few bold words: Xia Jing, I love you. Marry me!

Xia Jing looked at those nine short words, overwhelmed with emotion. She hadn’t expected Zhang Zhentian to go through so much effort for her. Known as someone rigid who couldn’t be sculpted, he had gone to these lengths for her, which truly wasn’t easy.

As Xia Jing was shedding tears of emotion alone, Zhang Zhentian emerged from behind her: ”Xia Jing, marry me!”

Zhang Zhentian, with a bouquet of roses in hand, got down on one knee and gazed at Xia Jing adoringly. Xia Jing covered her mouth, her eyes brimming with tears, feeling grateful. She thought: Oh Xia Jing, with such a husband, what more could you ask for?

Xia Jing had thought it was just the two of them, but to her surprise, Zhang Zhentian not only had decorated the place but also invited all his long-time friends as well as Li Jiayuan, Xiao Wei, and others, including his father—Zhang Mo. Xia Jing, with tears streaming down, said nothing. Those around them couldn’t help but urge her on, chanting in unison: ”Say yes, say yes, say yes!”

Becoming embarrassed by the chants of her friends, Xia Jing accepted the roses from Zhang Zhentian and said to him, ”I accept your proposal!”

Zhang Zhentian leaped up joyfully, twirling Xia Jing in his arms. He had never felt so happy before. In this moment, the person he was most thankful for was none other than his father. Taking Xia Jing’s hand, he approached Old Master Zhang and knelt before him: ”Dad, thank you. If it weren’t for our all-night conversation, I wouldn’t have figured it out so quickly. Without you, I wouldn’t have known what to do. You taught me that a father’s love is like a mountain and showed me what true love is!”

Old Master Zhang felt an indescribable emotion upon hearing Zhang Zhentian’s words. He looked up at the sky and silently said: My dear wife, do you see? Our son has grown up. This girl is his fiancée. You can rest easy now.

Xia Jing knew that Old Master Zhang was overjoyed at this moment. She said to him: ”Uncle, I also have to thank you. Without you, Zhentian and I wouldn’t be here today. Without you, our fate might have ended when I left for the UK. You worked so hard to raise Zhentian, allowing me the chance to find such an excellent partner. You’ve shown me what’s truly important—it’s not whether I’m successful in my career but that we can live happily as a family!”

Not only were Zhentian and Old Master Zhang caught off guard, but all those present were surprised that a leader of a Mercenary Group would speak such heartfelt words in public.

”I know you may not believe that these words could come from a mercenary like me, but I want to take this opportunity to say: Even though I’m a mercenary, I am also a woman. I too have someone worth protecting for a lifetime. I hope you can let go of any prejudice against mercenaries!”

Xia Jing was no ordinary person; she understood people and knew what to do and what not to do. In speaking out today, she aimed to dispel the misconceptions about mercenaries, so that her brothers and sisters in arms, who had loyally followed her, could have a future and be with the ones they loved. She did this for the prospect of her comrades’ futures.

Everyone felt a bit awkward hearing Xia Jing speak, as if she had seen right through their inner thoughts.

The atmosphere turned awkward for a while. Zhang Zhentian also felt something was amiss and said to Xia Jing: ”Xia Jing, rest assured, I will treat you well for the rest of my life. Whatever you want, I will do my utmost to give it to you. I just ask that you accompany me to the ends of the earth!”

Everyone was deeply moved by Zhang Zhentian’s heartfelt declaration.

”Zhentian, I hope you know I’m not with you for money. If I needed money, I could earn it myself with my own hands and effort. I don’t ask for you to treat me so well after we’re together, I just hope you can understand me a bit more. That’s all I need to be content!”

”Oh, Xia Jing, I almost forgot, don’t you think your uncle should arrange your wedding sooner? I’ve been wanting to hold my grandson for a long time!” Old Master Zhang also joined in.

Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian were both startled by Old Master Zhang’s sudden remark, and they said to him at the same time, ”You’re thinking too far ahead!”

Feeling a bit embarrassed for speaking in unison, they glanced at each other.

”You go first!”

”No, you go first!”

Again, they spoke at the same time, prompting Xiao Wei and Li Jiayuan to start teasing them, ”You two really are in sync, speaking together and even saying the same thing. Should we play a game?”

Everyone was curious about the game and someone asked, ”Yeah, what game?”

Xiao Wei looked at Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing with a sly smile, causing them to suddenly feel a sense of dread.

”Let’s have them guess where their beloved is hiding. If they guess wrong, they have to drink three shots. How about that?” Xiao Wei suggested, stirring up trouble.

After hearing Xiao Wei’s words, Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian exchanged glances, and they knew: they were in trouble!

”Let’s get started then!” Xiao Wei said to everyone with a smile.

”Sure!”

Everyone agreed with Xiao Wei’s proposal, and he walked over to Xia Jing, saying, ”Elder Sister Xia, isn’t my idea great? Just wait and see how my future brother-in-law is going to end up totally wasted!”

Xia Jing initially thought this was just a spontaneous game Xiao Wei and the others had come up with, but after hearing what Xiao Wei said, she realized she had been wrong; the game wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment idea, it had been premeditated.

Xia Jing looked at Xiao Wei, who gave her a helpless shrug and then walked away.

They began the game that they had long planned.

In the first round, Zhang Zhentian searched the entire private room but couldn’t find Xia Jing. He admitted defeat and drank the three shots, and he had to keep searching until he found her.

In the second round, Zhang Zhentian used his phone to call Xia Jing, but Xiao Wei and the others were already prepared; they had turned off Xia Jing’s phone.

...

Round after round, Zhang Zhentian failed to find Xia Jing, and eventually, Xiao Wei and the others got him completely wasted, and he collapsed onto the sofa!

When Xia Jing appeared, she saw Zhang Zhentian had already passed out. She felt helpless, knowing that this was something their friends had conspired, but she also knew it was their way of blessing her and Zhentian’s relationship, as well as a test of their bond.

”Thank you all for coming today. It’s getting late, so I’m going to take Zhentian home now. We’ll get together again when we have the chance!”

And that’s how Xia Jing ended up carrying Zhang Zhentian to the car for the ride home!
