My Alleged Husband

Chapter 97: Chapter 91 Unbearable to the Heart_1

Xiao Wei walked with Li Jiayuan, whispering sweet nothings to each other, and many passersby couldn’t help but feel envious seeing their affection.

The Zhang Family!

”Xia Jing, we finally got married today, and there’s been a question I’ve always wanted to ask you!” Zhang Zhentian had always held a question in his heart, never finding the right moment to ask Xia Jing, but he thought that today was a good day to seize the chance and ask her.

”What is it, tell me!” Xia Jing was still immersed in the joy of her new marriage with Zhang Zhentian; nobody would have expected him to ask such a direct question!

”I want to ask you, if I weren’t the heir to Zhang Corporation, would you still be with me? If I weren’t born into a wealthy family, would you still love me?” Zhang Zhentian gathered his courage and blurted out the questions.

When he let those words out, Xia Jing was stunned, and even he didn’t expect himself to say such a thing! Hearing Zhang Zhentian speak, Xia Jing felt disturbed, she looked up at Zhang Zhentian and said, ”No, Zhentian, what do you mean by this?”

Xia Jing didn’t understand why, after being together for so long, Zhang Zhentian had never asked such a question, and why he chose their wedding night to do so!

”Xia Jing, I don’t mean anything else, I just want to know if you’re with me because of money? I just want to know if you’d still be willing to be with me if I had been penniless and powerless from the start?” Zhang Zhentian felt that since his words were already out there, it was better to ask everything at once rather than bringing it up later.

When Xia Jing heard Zhang Zhentian’s question, she didn’t say a word, stood up and slapped him across the face, and roared at him, ”Zhang Zhentian, let me tell you, Xia Jing is not lacking in money, if I were with you for money, there are plenty of richer men out there in the world, why wouldn’t I choose someone wealthier than you?”

Zhang Zhentian was infuriated by Xia Jing’s unexpected slap, he yelled back at her, ”Xia Jing, can you change your temper? Stop resorting to hitting people at the drop of a hat!”

”Zhang Zhentian, even if I lack everything, I certainly don’t lack money or suitors. Do you think you’re the only rich man in the world? Do you think I, Xia Jing, can’t survive without you? Don’t forget, if I hadn’t stepped in to help, Zhang Corporation would have gone under already. If you were really so wealthy and powerful, then why couldn’t you lend a hand when the company was in trouble?” Xia Jing was truly enraged by Zhang Zhentian; she hadn’t expected her first day of marriage to turn out like this!

”Xia Jing, calm down. Was it that I couldn’t lend a hand? I was giving you a chance to shine...” Zhang Zhentian said this without much conviction, as it had indeed been his inability to help that had prompted her action back then. Now he claimed it was to give Xia Jing a chance to perform, how could that not anger her?

”Zhang Zhentian, do you have no shame? If you’re really capable, stop arguing with me here. If you dare, repay me the money I used to save the company from your own pocket!” Xia Jing now set aside all other considerations and confronted Zhang Zhentian directly.

”Zhang Zhentian, I really want to know, after being together for so long, do you truly think I, Xia Jing, am somebody who loves money that much? Or do you feel a sense of achievement when you insult me with money?” Xia Jing started to cry as she spoke; she had never been looked down upon like this. She just wanted to live a simple life with the person she loved, not seeking great wealth or luxury.

”Zhang Zhentian, I don’t mind if you argue with me at any other time, but I truly didn’t expect you to choose today, our very first day of marriage, to do this. Is this how you show your love?” Xia Jing cried incessantly until she was choking on her tears.

”Xia Jing, don’t be like this, I was wrong, please stop being angry!” Seeing Xia Jing cry so heartbrokenly, Zhang Zhentian couldn’t bear it and could only bow his head and beg her to stop crying.

Xia Jing felt extremely upset; she said to Zhang Zhentian, ”Zhentian, I admit that society is very realistic nowadays, and many people’s love is based on money, but I still hope you don’t think of everyone as money-grubbers. If you continue to live with this mentality, then I can only say one thing: We won’t last long, even if we’re married! Even lovers should have trust and not doubt, let alone spouses. After all these years, it turns out you still don’t understand what kind of person I, Xia Jing, really am!”
