My Alleged Husband

Chapter 63: Chapter 61 Agreeing to be Together_1

Xiao Wei ultimately agreed to be with Li Jiayuan. Even though he didn’t want to be a burden to her, he couldn’t stand seeing her cry her eyes out over him. He loved Li Jiayuan, and it was for this reason that he became enraged when he saw someone else holding her hand.

”So we’re in agreement, no matter what you see in the future, I hope you can listen to my explanation and not hastily say things like we should not be together,” Li Jiayuan said playfully as she held Xiao Wei’s hand.

Xiao Wei smiled at Li Jiayuan, ”You, I really have no idea what to do with you.”

Upon hearing this, Li Jiayuan quickly asked, ”Does that mean you agree?”

Li Jiayuan looked at Xiao Wei with anticipation, and Xiao Wei was amused by her serious expression.

”Yes, I agree with you, but I also hope you can promise me one thing,” Xiao Wei said, seizing the moment.

Li Jiayuan thought Xiao Wei was referring to her situation with Guo Tao. Afraid of another misunderstanding, she spoke before Xiao Wei could, ”Don’t worry, there’s really nothing between me and Guo Tao. He got caught selling fake alcohol by my father, so my dad invested in his bar and plans to close it down after the acquisition. He came to me because he couldn’t negotiate with my dad, and that’s what caused the misunderstanding. I won’t meet others like that in the future!”

Xiao Wei was touched by Li Jiayuan’s words. He thought of her as a foolish girl who was making sacrifices just to avoid his misunderstandings.

Li Jiayuan waited for Xiao Wei’s response, but he just looked at her quietly, without saying a word. Unable to help herself, she laughed and asked, ”What’s the matter? Why are you just continuously looking at me?”

Xiao Wei sighed and then slowly said, ”Jiayuan, being with me will only hold you back, so I hope you can still think it over...”

Li Jiayuan knew Xiao Wei was thinking of her, ”I know you mean well, but I don’t regret it. I hope we can always be together! Please don’t reject me anymore, okay?”

Xiao Wei helplessly stroked Li Jiayuan’s hair, whispering, ”Alright, but there’s something I must tell you.”

Li Jiayuan was curious about what things Xiao Wei might reveal beyond what she had mentioned, and she gave a look of acknowledgment.

”If I’m with you, for a long period of time I will be very busy. As a mercenary and to avoid negative repercussions for your father’s business, and to prevent future children from being gossiped about, I must ’clean up’ before we get married. Do you understand what I’m saying?”

How could Li Jiayuan not understand what Xiao Wei meant? And don’t think just because Xiao Wei called her naive and silly that she really was; in fact, Li Jiayuan was exceptionally intelligent, her IQ not less than her father’s.

”I understand. You mean you don’t want me to step in and help with your ’cleanup,’ right?” Li Jiayuan hit the nail on the head.

”Exactly, looks like I have to update my view of you. You’re not the simple and sweet type, hahaha...” Xiao Wei laughed heartily at Li Jiayuan.

Li Jiayuan didn’t catch everything he said. What she heard most clearly was Xiao Wei saying she was ”simple and sweet”!

Li Jiayuan spoke up, ”No wonder, you’ve always thought of me as the simple and sweet type, huh? Am I that silly?”

Honestly, Li Jiayuan was quite curious herself. She didn’t think she was silly at all; on the contrary, she considered herself quite clever.

Realizing he had misspoken, Xiao Wei could only grin and bear it, ”No way, it’s just that when I first met you, you seemed a little silly.”

”And now?” Li Jiayuan asked, tilting her head.

”Now... now you’re still a bit silly, haha...” Xiao Wei said before turning and dashing away, with Li Jiayuan in hot pursuit behind him.

As she ran after him, Li Jiayuan realized that Xiao Wei wasn’t sprinting with all his might; he was teasing her. Even so, she desperately tried to catch up but couldn’t.

Xiao Wei occasionally turned around to make faces at Li Jiayuan, who was fuming. Knowing she couldn’t catch up, she suddenly yelled out loud, ”Ah!”

When Xiao Wei heard Li Jiayuan’s cry behind him, he quickly stopped. He saw her sitting on the ground and ran over, asking, ”Jiayuan, what’s wrong?”

”I twisted my ankle!” Li Jiayuan said to Xiao Wei.

”It’s alright, come on, I’ll carry you on my back.”

Xiao Wei squatted down as he spoke. Li Jiayuan hadn’t expected Xiao Wei to offer a piggyback ride. She saw it as a great opportunity, grabbed Xiao Wei’s hand, and slowly stood up. ”Haha, I caught up to you. I won! Let’s see if you’ll still call me ’silly and sweet’ now, hmph!”

Xiao Wei was speechless. How could he have expected Li Jiayuan to play possum like this? When he heard Li Jiayuan’s cries, he truly thought something had happened to her, but it turned out she was just pretending.

”Jiayuan, you can’t be so willful in the future. I’ll be leaving for a while, and you need to take good care of yourself, understand?” Xiao Wei instructed Li Jiayuan with concern.

Upon hearing this, tears started swirling in Li Jiayuan’s eyes. Xiao Wei wiped them away with his hand, jokingly saying, ”I guess it wasn’t wrong to say that women are made of water, they cry at the drop of a hat!”

”You’re the one who cried!”

”Do you know what you look like right now?”

”What?” Li Jiayuan asked, curious.

”Hmm... like a dead duck!”

Li Jiayuan didn’t understand what Xiao Wei meant, so she countered, ”Why like a dead duck?”

Struggling to hold back his laughter, Xiao Wei told Li Jiayuan, ”Because you’re ’stubborn as a dead duck,’ right?”

Li Jiayuan finally realized what he meant. He was talking about her! She glared at Xiao Wei with wide eyes, ”Where am I being stubborn?”

”Still claiming you don’t care, obviously upset about me leaving, crying but saying you’re not, aren’t you being a ’stubborn dead duck’?”

...

Li Jiayuan was at a loss for words because of Xiao Wei.

”By the way, Xiao Wei, I want to know if Xia Jing will also ’clean up’ if you do?”

”I don’t know about that. Elder Sister Xia probably won’t ’clean up.’ After all, you never know when Zhang Zhentian might join the Mercenary Group too, right?”

”Alright, I’ll be waiting for your return!”

Xiao Wei hugged Li Jiayuan tightly, whispering in her ear, ”Thank you, Jiayuan!”

A thousand words couldn’t compare to a single ”I’ll be waiting for your return!”

After parting with Xiao Wei, Li Jiayuan decided to talk to Xia Jing about the ’cleaning up’ matter.

Three days later.

”Xia Jing, I want to ask you if ’cleaning up’ for mercenaries is a big hassle?” Li Jiayuan tentatively inquired.

”Jiayuan, why are you suddenly interested in asking about ’cleaning up’? Did Xiao Wei say something to you?” Xia Jing countered with a question. ”Oh, speaking of Xiao Wei, how are you two doing?”

”Xia Jing, thank you. Despite the way I treated you before, you still helped me. Xiao Wei has already agreed to be with me,” Li Jiayuan shyly told Xia Jing.

Muttering to herself, Xia Jing said, ”It’s good that you’re together, it’s good to be together...”
