My Alleged Husband

Chapter 86: Chapter 84 When Will We Get Married_1

Xiao Wei desperately wanted to tell Li Haixiao the truth when he asked who donated the kidney to Li Jiayuan, but he couldn’t do that. If he had done so, Li Haixiao would have been so devastated by the revelation that he couldn’t have accepted it. At the same time, if he had done it, Jiayuan would have definitely been angry and never spoken to him again, so he could only bear it!

Jiayuan asked Xiao Wei to go back first, while she stayed in the hospital room thinking about when she could be discharged. She planned to ask the doctor, but as she approached the nurse’s station, she overheard several nurses discussing, ”Hey, do you see that handsome guy? Such a young lad, why would he come to the hospital for kidney typing?”

”Maybe he wanted to save someone very important to him!”

”Who says? I heard that he was getting typed because his girlfriend’s father had uremia and was almost done for...”

”Is that so? By what you’re saying, this young man must really love his girlfriend. It’s just unfortunate that the typing results weren’t good; his kidney couldn’t be donated to the patient surnamed Li!”

”Yeah, I also heard that the patient is the President of Li Corporation, and in the end, his own daughter donated her kidney to him!”

”I’ve heard President Li’s daughter is as beautiful as a celestial being, which is such a pity. Such a young girl, and now missing a kidney, how will she manage in the future?”

”Stop talking already, if others find out we’re gossiping about someone’s privacy, we’ll be in big trouble!”

One by one, the nurses discussed with great enthusiasm, thinking no one could hear them, unaware that Jiayuan was standing right behind the door.

”Excuse me, nurse, what’s the name of that young man you were just talking about?” Jiayuan walked up to the nurses.

One nurse, fearing trouble, quickly steered clear, while another, who loved gossiping, chatted away with Jiayuan undistracted.

”I don’t know his name; I think I heard someone call him Xiao something Wei.”

”Is it Xiao Wei? Can you check if this is the person?” Jiayuan took out her phone to show Xiao Wei’s photo to the nurse.

”Yes, that’s him. At first, I thought he was a bit silly, getting typed for someone he has no blood relation with. But later, when I heard that person was his future father-in-law, I thought he was really good to his girlfriend. For the father of a bride who hasn’t even married into the family yet, he was willing to donate his precious kidney...”

The nurse had not said much more before Jiayuan’s complexion grew visibly worse. Hearing the story concluded, Jiayuan could barely stand straight, alarming the nurse: ”What’s wrong with you? You aren’t...”

”Correct, I am the girlfriend of the young man you mentioned!” Jiayuan unreservedly revealed her identity.

”Miss, I didn’t mean to gossip about your privacy, please don’t report me!” the nurse pleaded, bowing her head to Jiayuan.

”Don’t worry, I won’t dwell on it. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have known he secretly did so much for me. I should be thanking you!” Jiayuan smiled at the nurse.

”As long as you don’t complain, it’s all good!”

Jiayuan nodded and then turned to head back to her room.

She locked herself in the hospital room to cry secretly. She felt Xiao Wei was so silly, yet there was nothing she could do for him.

Jiayuan slowly made her way to Li Haixiao’s room. She wanted to talk to Li Haixiao about marrying Xiao Wei; she had now fixed her mind on Xiao Wei as her future husband, thinking it would be a real pity to lose such a husband. She had decided, no matter who tried to stop her, she wouldn’t change her mind again.

”Dad, I’d like to discuss my marriage to Xiao Wei with you. Do you have any thoughts on it?” Jiayuan asked cautiously.

Li Haixiao was caught off guard when Jiayuan suddenly brought up this matter to him, and he didn’t understand why she was telling him this now.

”Jiayuan, can you tell me why you suddenly brought this up to me? This isn’t like you!” Li Haixiao asked in disbelief.

”Dad, I’ll just tell you the truth. While you were in the hospital, Xiao Wei secretly went to the hospital to get a compatibility test. He was preparing to donate his kidney to you, but it turned out to be a mismatch. Now you should understand why I suddenly brought this up, right? How many men, who aren’t even married to his daughter yet, are willing to go this far for you?” Li Jiayuan revealed Xiao Wei’s attempt to get the compatibility test to Li Haixiao. This indeed caught Li Haixiao off guard; he might have expected someone might donate a kidney to him, but he never imagined it would be his daughter’s fiancé, and he couldn’t help feeling surprised.

”Jiayuan, Dad understands your feelings right now, and I appreciate that he was willing to do this, but have you really thought this through? Marriage is no child’s play, and once you make a decision, it’s too late for regrets!” Li Haixiao wanted to know if Li Jiayuan was truly intent on marrying Xiao Wei, which is why he asked.

”Dad, I know what you’re worried about, but rest assured, the path is my own choice, and I will have no regrets. Even if the consequences aren’t what I anticipate, I will finish it crawling if I have to. Don’t you want to hold your grandchild sooner?” Li Jiayuan countered Li Haixiao.

Li Haixiao was about to say something else, but he was caught off guard by Li Jiayuan’s last sentence. How could he not want that? He dreamed of holding his grandchild as soon as possible; how wonderful it would be to have a child keeping him company.

Li Haixiao pretended to ponder thoughtfully, putting on a reluctant act, but ultimately, he agreed to Li Jiayuan’s request.

”Alright, for the sake of my future grandchild, I’ll agree!”

Li Jiayuan ran out excitedly without even saying goodbye. Li Haixiao thought that at the very least, Li Jiayuan would say ”thank you” to him, but before he could speak, she had run off.

”Xiao Wei, I want to ask you a question, when are we getting married?”

”Why are you suddenly asking this? As long as you’re ready, I’ll marry you!”

”Really?” Li Jiayuan was a bit incredulous.

”Really!” Xiao Wei assured her confidently.

”Then let’s get married after my dad gets discharged from the hospital, okay?” Li Jiayuan asked for Xiao Wei’s opinion.

”This... will Uncle agree?” Xiao Wei asked, worried.

”Don’t worry about that, I’ve just convinced my dad, and he has agreed. What I want to know is, are you keeping something from me?”

Xiao Wei looked at Li Jiayuan, feeling that she must have found out something; otherwise, she wouldn’t be asking him such a question.

”No!”

”Really? Xiao Wei, we’re about to become husband and wife, and I don’t want there to be any secrets between us.”

Xiao Wei was about to speak, but Li Jiayuan interrupted: ”Don’t tell me there’s nothing, I want to know why you hid the compatibility test from me. If it hadn’t been for the mismatch, were you planning to give your kidney to my dad? Why would you be so foolish? I am his daughter; this is something I should do!”

”Jiayuan, I didn’t want you to get hurt. I just want you to be happy for the rest of your life. As your future son-in-law, of course, I have to do something, right?”

”You can’t do this again in the future; you must tell me everything, got it?” Li Jiayuan yelled.

”Wow, a strict wife indeed!” Xiao Wei exclaimed in surprise.

”Stop yelling, there are so many people here, I’m so embarrassed!” Li Jiayuan ran to the hospital bed and covered her face with the blanket.

Xiao Wei couldn’t help laughing.
