My Alleged Husband

Chapter 87: Chapter 85 I Want to Be Discharged_1

Li Haixiao had been in the hospital for over three months. Ever since Li Jiayuan was able to walk again, she visited Li Haixiao every day when she had time. Over the past two months, with Jiayuan’s company, Li Haixiao’s complexion grew increasingly better. Jiayuan realized that nothing else mattered but having her loved ones by her side, available to meet at any time. She finally understood that this was a form of happiness!

”Jiayuan, go and ask the doctor when I can be discharged. I’ve been cooped up in the hospital for months, surrounded by the smell of disinfectant, which is just unbearable. Home is so much more comfortable,” Li Haixiao said to Li Jiayuan with a look of melancholy.

Li Jiayuan felt helpless; why did her dad always seem to have the heart of a child?

”Dad, you can’t be impatient about being discharged. Even if you want to leave, you still need the doctor’s approval. You’re not planning to sneak out, are you?” Li Jiayuan joked with Li Haixiao.

”You child, what a way to talk! Anyway, how have you and Xiao Wei been lately?” Li Haixiao changed the subject abruptly, skipping over his own discharge to inquire about Jiayuan and Xiao Wei’s affairs.

In the past, Li Jiayuan would blush unconsciously whenever someone brought up her and Xiao Wei, but now, whenever she heard about her and Xiao Wei, her face wouldn’t change at all; she felt much more mature.

”Dad, what else could be going on between us? We just need ’an hour’ before everything is in place. We’ve already prepared everything; all that’s left is for you to be discharged and officiate our wedding. Don’t you think you should strive to recover sooner?” Li Jiayuan said with a look of grievance, as if it was Li Haixiao’s fault that her wedding with Xiao Wei was being delayed, which was somewhat true. But she was still grateful to Li Haixiao. If it weren’t for his brush with death, how could she have had such a good opportunity to ask to marry Xiao Wei?

”You girl, don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. I’m your father; how could I not know what’s on your mind?”

”Dad, why don’t you tell me what I’m thinking then!” Li Jiayuan didn’t believe that her dad could know everything she was thinking.

”Alright, then I’ll tell you. Actually, you are quite grateful to me. If I hadn’t been seriously ill this time, Xiao Wei wouldn’t have had the chance to be a match for my transplant. He wouldn’t have had the chance to be a match, you wouldn’t have had the chance to convince me to agree to your wedding, right?” Li Haixiao said to Li Jiayuan with a chuckle.

Li Jiayuan’s eyes widened in disbelief, ”Dad, how do you know what I’m thinking? Can you tell fortunes or read minds?”

Li Jiayuan truly couldn’t believe her ears. She hadn’t said a word, yet her father seemed to know everything; she was astounded! She couldn’t help but give Li Haixiao a thumbs-up! Li Haixiao laughed even more joyfully.

”Jiayuan, since you’re so eager to marry Xiao Wei soon, why don’t you help me by asking the doctor when I can be discharged? Then I’d be able to leave the hospital sooner to see you settled down. Best of all, I could get to hold my grandson sooner!” The thought of Jiayuan getting married and not having to wait long to hold his grandson made Li Haixiao feel as if all his sickness had been cured.

”Dad, we’re not even married yet, and even if we do, if you want to hold a grandchild, that’s going to be a few more years’ wait! Xiao Wei and I have talked it over, and we’re not planning on having children too early,” Li Jiayuan said with a smug look to Li Haixiao.

Upon hearing this, Li Haixiao immediately became unhappy, his face falling somber.

Seeing her dad pouting over what she said, Jiayuan felt an irresistible urge to pinch Li Haixiao’s cheek.

”Jiayuan, you haven’t forgotten what you promised me when you asked for my approval to marry, have you?” Li Haixiao reminded Li Jiayuan.

Recalling what she had said, Li Jiayuan froze for a moment. Indeed, she had promised that as long as Li Haixiao agreed to let her marry Xiao Wei sooner, he could hold a grandchild sooner so...

Li Jiayuan suddenly felt as if she had dug a hole for herself. Seeing her expression, Li Haixiao knew that she must have remembered, hence the look of dismay.

”Dad, can we... can we talk about this after the wedding?” Li Jiayuan tentatively asked.

”No way!”

”Dad, I...”

Li Jiayuan was cut off by Li Haixiao before she could finish, ”You better not tell me you said that just to get my approval, because if that’s the case, I might just call off the wedding!”

Li Haixiao really was something, clearly knowing that if Li Jiayuan said something like that at the time, it would certainly be the case, but now he managed to speak before Li Jiayuan could even open her mouth, then Li Jiayuan couldn’t say it anymore. Indeed, Li Haixiao was truly an old fox.

Li Jiayuan felt very helpless, her own father had already spoken in such a way, what more could she say? All she could do was let things continue to unfold.

”Dad, since you’ve already put it that way, what more can I say? Now I don’t even know if I should marry Xiao Wei!” Li Jiayuan said to her father with a mixture of laughter and tears.

”Of course, you should marry, you must marry, if you don’t, how can I cradle a grandson?” So it turned out Li Haixiao was all about cradling a grandson.

”Dad, you’re so keen on agreeing to our marriage, is it really just to cradle a grandson? I thought you were considering your daughter’s happiness!” Li Jiayuan gave Li Haixiao several side-eyes.

Sigh! Li Jiayuan thought: the situation has developed to this stage, she could only bite the bullet and get married, but does she really have to let her father cradle a grandson right after getting married?

”Li Jiayuan, daddy’s good daughter, I trust you will never let daddy down!”

Li Haixiao was forcing Li Jiayuan into a corner with no retreat, leaving her only the choice to accept!

”Dad, I’ll go and ask the doctor for you!”

”Hurry, go on!”

Li Haixiao was indeed eager, springing back to life at any mention of when he could be discharged from the hospital!

”Doctor, may I ask when my father can be discharged?”

”Miss Li, your father can be discharged tomorrow, as long as he has regular check-ups, there shouldn’t be any major issues!”

If Li Haixiao hadn’t said those words earlier, Li Jiayuan would have been very happy to hear what the doctor said, but now she just couldn’t feel happy!

”Miss Li, are you alright?” the doctor asked with concern.

”I’m fine, thank you, Doctor!”

Li Jiayuan didn’t go back to the ward to tell Li Haixiao he could be discharged tomorrow. Instead, she sat alone in the corridor, pondering how she could marry and yet not have kids too soon, but she didn’t want to disappoint Li Haixiao either. It was truly a dilemma!

An hour later, Li Jiayuan returned to the ward.

”How is it? Did they say when I can be discharged?”

To tell Dad or not, to speak or not? Li Jiayuan was conflicted. Seeing Li Haixiao’s eager gaze, she didn’t know how to respond to avoid hurting both sides!

”What’s wrong, Jiayuan, has my condition worsened? It’s alright, if that’s the case, then it must just be my fate!” Li Haixiao thought his condition had deteriorated again, looking at Li Jiayuan with helplessness.

”Dad, the doctor said, you can be discharged tomorrow!” Li Jiayuan still decided to tell Li Haixiao the truth, not wanting to see her loved ones frown every day!
