My Alleged Husband

Chapter 72: Chapter 70 Father-in-law Visits_1

American-style diner.

”Jiayuan, eat more, look how thin you’ve become!” Li Haixiao added a few chunks of fatty meat to Li Jiayuan’s bowl.

Li Jiayuan stared at the fatty meat in her bowl, swallowing hard. She never ate fatty meat!

Li Jiayuan slowly started to say, ”Dad, you know I never eat fatty meat, especially when it’s so fatty that oil drips out. I’ll just stick to the vegetables!”

Li Haixiao was displeased, scowling with anger he rebuked, ”How can you be this way, child? It was fine when you didn’t eat it before, but now you’ve become skin and bones, and you still refuse to eat? What are you trying to do, defy the heavens?”

Li Jiayuan was stunned by her father’s sudden scolding, as Li Haixiao had never spoken to Li Jiayuan in this tone before. How could he now...

Knowing that her father was no longer in a good mood, Li Jiayuan fought against the urge to vomit and forced herself to eat the fatty meat Li Haixiao had put in her bowl. When Li Haixiao saw that Li Jiayuan had finally eaten the meat, his stern face softened.

The two chatted about happy things while eating, not returning home until late at night.

The next morning, as soon as Li Haixiao got up, he woke Li Jiayuan and said, ”Jiayuan, now that you’ve completed your training and came back, shouldn’t you go and greet Xia Jing?”

Li Jiayuan thought about it and agreed, if it weren’t for Xia Jing, she might not have passed so easily. Speaking of which, she really should thank Xia Jing.

”I completely forgot about that, I definitely should go see her, it’s been so long, I can’t help but miss her!”

Li Haixiao said to Li Jiayuan, ”Alright then, we’ll go out together after we’ve finished eating!”

Li Jiayuan didn’t understand what Li Haixiao meant, she thought he was going to accompany her to see Xia Jing and asked subconsciously, ”Dad, are you also going to see Xia Jing?”

”Who told you I am going to see Xia Jing? Didn’t you say you were going to see her? I am definitely going to work!”

”Okay then, I thought you were going to go with me to see Xia Jing!”

Of course, Li Haixiao would not accompany Li Jiayuan to see Xia Jing, because he was going to meet Xiao Wei. He wanted to ask Xiao Wei what had happened that changed Li Jiayuan so much.

After the meal, the two left the house together. At the fork in the road, they went their separate ways. Li Haixiao seemed to be headings towards the company, but halfway there, he messaged Xiao Wei to meet up. Xiao Wei agreed without hesitation.

Li Jiayuan ran to Xia Jing’s home, knocked on the door, and when Xia Jing opened it, she saw Li Jiayuan standing at her doorstep. Excited, Xia Jing grabbed Li Jiayuan’s hand and said, ”Jiayuan, you’re back! How was it, was the training tough?”

Li Jiayuan originally wanted to ask Xia Jing why she hadn’t clarified the rules, but when she saw Xia Jing’s concerned look, her throat felt like it was blocked, and she couldn’t say a word.

”Did that coach give you a hard time?” Xia Jing asked cautiously, afraid that Li Jiayuan might burst into tears without a warning.

Li Jiayuan sighed and said, ”You’re telling me! I don’t know what kind of coach you found for me, not cutting me any slack at all. Thankfully, I, Li Jiayuan, am not one to give up easily, otherwise, I’d have been kicked out long ago!”

”Tell me about his training methods?” Although Xia Jing is the head of the Mercenary Group, her current concerns are all centered on Zhang Zhentian. She hardly has any time to inquire about the training within the team.

”Wait, besides the high heels running incident, tell me everything else,” Xia Jing knew about Li Jiayuan’s high-heeled running, so she let Li Jiayuan skip that part and talk about the rest.

Li Jiayuan felt a bit strange, wondering why Xia Jing would let her skip the high heels running part. Could it be that Xia Jing already knew about her running in high heels?

”Don’t give me that look. On your first day at the training camp, your coach called me,” Xia Jing admitted candidly.

Li Jiayuan said, ”No wonder. I was wondering how you knew about it. I was fine before, but now that you mention it, I’m getting angry. That coach is really ruthless. It was bad enough making me run in high heels, but not letting me take them off halfway through, and insisting I complete the run in them. Do you know after finishing the run that day, when I got back to where I was staying, my feet were covered in blisters. It hurt so much, I’ve never suffered like that in my life.”

”What else?” Xia Jing pressed on.

”The intensity of the training kept increasing day by day. Just when we finally made it to the end, the coach said he wanted to give us a gift and asked if we wanted it. At that time, we thought, why not accept a free gift? Only a fool would refuse. He tricked us into saying we couldn’t refuse it even if we didn’t like it. After we agreed, do you know what his ’gift’ was? Run ten laps, do frog jumps for five laps, a thousand push-ups, and to complete it all before the sun sets. Only then could we pass the training. My heart was so exhausted, I could hardly breathe...”

Listening to Li Jiayuan, Xia Jing inevitably felt a bit displeased since Li Jiayuan was her friend. But Xia Jing also understood Coach Yang’s difficulties, so she didn’t express any opinion on this matter.

The two of them discussed their respective issues, laughing so much they could scarcely close their mouths. However, on the other side, Li Haixiao and Xiao Wei were not so happy.

”Xiao Wei, can you explain to me why Jiayuan has become like this after just one week?” Li Haixiao glared at Xiao Wei.

”Uncle, I’m sorry, it’s my fault for not protecting Jiayuan well enough to prevent her from getting all these injuries...” Xiao Wei started apologetically.

When Li Haixiao heard that his precious daughter was covered in injuries, he immediately launched into an interrogation as if questioning a criminal.

”Xiao Wei, since you and Jiayuan are together now, I will be your future father-in-law. I hope you won’t keep secrets about Jiayuan from me. I just want to know what kind of injuries she has sustained?”

Xiao Wei didn’t expect Li Haixiao to already accept him as his son-in-law, much less to assert himself as a future in-law in front of him. Pleased with this, he didn’t intend to hide anything and told Li Haixiao everything he knew.

”I didn’t know she went to the training camp until she had passed the training. However, Coach Yang said that on the first day Jiayuan arrived, she had blisters all over her feet... After a series of trainings, this is what led to Jiayuan’s current condition!”

Li Haixiao felt satisfied with Xiao Wei’s honesty, but hearing about his daughter’s suffering pained him. He said to Xiao Wei, ”Xiao Wei, Jiayuan is my only family now. In her whole life, I’ve never hit her or even wanted to scold her. Now she has grown up and found someone she loves. I, as a father, cannot ignore my daughter’s happiness, can I? So I am asking you to treat Jiayuan well in the future, to not let her suffer. I trust you know why she chose to undergo the training. I hope you won’t let down her deep affection for you, because if I ever find out that you treat Jiayuan badly, you will have to face the consequences yourself!”

Xiao Wei knew what Li Haixiao was worried about, and he spoke earnestly, ”Uncle, rest assured, I will never let Jiayuan get hurt again, and I will love only her for my entire life!”

”My boy, why do you still call me uncle? Isn’t it time to change that?” Li Haixiao grinned and laughed.

A bit embarrassed, Xiao Wei blushed and called out, ”Father-in-law!”

Hearing this, Li Haixiao’s smile grew even more pronounced.
