”Finally done!”

Chen Wen sighed and sat down, feeling a bit fatigued.

At this point, there’s no mention of a bed; Chen Wen simply sat on a relatively clean spot on the ground, looking up at the sky and contemplating the current situation in his mind.

Theoretically speaking, he now has a shelter, fire and fuel, a stable water source, and relatively stable food.

Basic survival isn’t an issue anymore.

Next, he should strive for more stable survival and prepare food for the trek fifty days later.

But that’s a distant concern.

Currently, Chen Wen’s most urgent need is to make a rack for drying meat and to try to come up with some water storage containers.

Additionally, he might consider hunting to acquire entries.

Although the Qiangtang Plateau is sparsely populated, it is a paradise for wild animals.

The number and variety of wildlife here are abundant.

Apart from those national level-one protected animals that cannot be hunted, other animals are still open for hunting.

The premise is not to go on a killing spree; hunting one or two animals is still okay.

Chen Wen plans to gain some entries through hunting.

Currently, he plans to get entries for pika and marmot.

No need to say much about marmots; they’re groundhogs that often appear in films.

This creature is quite common on the plateau.

However, they are highly susceptible to the plague bacterium and are one of the main sources and hosts of the plague.

The Black Death that once ravaged Europe was brought over by these guys.

Therefore, when contacting and hunting marmots, Chen Wen feels he ought to be more cautious.

Thinking of this, Chen Wen also plans to warn the Golden Eagle, reminding it not to approach marmots.

However, there hasn’t been close contact between the Golden Eagle and marmots, so there’s no need to be overly anxious.

Besides that, Chen Wen also plans to hunt some pikas.

Other than for himself, he also needs to provide food for the Golden Eagle and the Snow Leopard.

And with the Snow Leopard about to give birth, Chen Wen is pondering on how to provide some nutrition during this period.

In short, there’s plenty to do.

Can’t seem to stay idle lately!

Chen Wen sighed, lay down, and began resting.

...

Meanwhile.

Under the same sky, the other twenty contestants are moving according to their plans.

Those closer opted to converge with teammates, while those farther away have to act alone.

At this moment, Bao Wen and a contestant from the United Kingdom have already met up.

According to the plan, they are both stockpiling food and building a shelter while waiting for the third teammate to approach.

And Jon from Australia is also searching for his teammate.

Nuo Bu from Nepal and Vikram from India are wary of each other, fearing an encounter in the early stages.

Even though the two hold deep grudges, encountering and clashing early on isn’t in either of their interests.

As for the other contestants, there’s no need to elaborate.

Many had a good start, but by now, most are relying on military rations for sustenance.

Those who used up their military rations at the start are either calculated or waiting for elimination.

In contrast, it’s only Chen Wen and Vikram who haven’t extensively consumed food from their military rations so far.

...

Three days have passed.

At this point, the association can more or less predict who will last until the end this time.

Qu Yong continuously reviews the data, predicting and assessing the situation in his mind.

Based on his estimation and analysis of past scenarios.

Many should persist until the elimination stage, with about sixteen or even seventeen remaining.

But as it stands, only about ten might make it to the end.

This means the pressure in the elimination stage will be much greater!

And as Chen Wen is the only contender not teaming with others, he will face immense pressure at that time!

Qu Yong looked at the logs, feeling a headache.

He’s someone who worries, not just about his own matters but the association’s as well.

Hence, he already feels the pressure mounting.

Yet, seeing Chen Wen’s relaxed demeanor and early performance, Qu Yong sighed: Trust in Chen Wen!

...

Over at Chen Wen’s side.

The night went by, and he slept quite comfortably, to say the least.

After all, he had no psychological burden this time and even gained a bonus from the shelter, making his rest more assured.

The Snow Leopard and Golden Eagle, however, were habitually unable to sleep at night and would go out to observe the surroundings and remain on alert for a while.

In the morning.

Chen Wen opened his eyes, refreshed.

He stretched his body, making a grunting noise from his throat.

Hearing the commotion, the Snow Leopard and Golden Eagle, who were outside, came into the cave.

”How was the rest?”

The Golden Eagle perched inside the cave, looking concernedly at Chen Wen.

”Very good! And you?”

The Snow Leopard yawned, nodding: ”Great, for some reason, this place gives me a very comfortable feeling.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen nodded.

The Snow Leopard had received help from humans here before, so it had a subconscious sense of peace here.

After moving around for a while, he placed the pot from last night on the earth stove to heat the meat soup.

As steam rose, Chen Wen also arranged breakfast—boiled bones, meat soup, and some meat.

And the meat soup this morning had some salt added, so it tasted better than last night’s.

After a breakfast, Chen Wen began his tasks.

He went inside the cave and brought out the tables and chairs.

To make the drying rack, he planned to use stones and tables and chairs as raw materials.

Because it’s hard to find wood on the Qiangtang, the drying rack could only rely on stones, like other contestants.

However, compared to others, Chen Wen was much better off.

Tables and chairs found in the cave would become key materials for making the drying rack.

Chen Wen turned the tables and chairs over, inspecting them closely.

The materials of these tables and chairs seemed to be some kind of wood, hmm, a bit redundant to mention.

But wood-based items have a great trait: easy modification.

Chen Wen pulled out a dagger, planning to transform this years-abandoned table into a drying rack with it.

The principle of modification was simple: along the grain, carve the tabletop into strips with slots.

Although using an axe or saw would be more suitable for this.

But with [Giant Strength], Chen Wen highlighted sheer brute force.

He toughened the dagger into an axe.

With a bit of stabbing, he managed to poke a small hole in the table.

He then used the dagger’s serrated back to begin sawing the table.

After busying himself for over ten minutes, Chen Wen successfully sawed off the first wooden strip.

The Snow Leopard and Golden Eagle watched, feeling a tad bored.

Just when they thought Chen Wen would continue sawing wooden strips.

Chen Wen instead put down the dagger, rested for a while, and began picking up stones.

There were plenty of stones in the valley.

Chen Wen rummaged for a while, collecting many stones with relatively solid structures.

He brought these stones near the cave, using them to stack the frame of the drying rack.

After stacking the stones, Chen Wen placed the sawed wooden strip on them and measured it.

It fit perfectly.

In this way, the table gap could dry meat strips, while the sawed wooden strip could be repurposed, placed on stones as a second drying rack.

Two birds with one stone, doubling the efficiency.
