Wilderness Survival with Druid System

The list of equipment choices was right there on the table at Chen Wen’s place.

He looked at the items listed on it, pondering carefully.

To be honest, Chen Wen really wanted to take a pot with him.

With a pot, he could melt snow into water and cook food.

Even though it was tough to boil water up in the highlands, having a bit of hot soup was better than nothing.

But now, he had to consider the starting point situation.

He couldn’t solely think about cooking food for himself.

Thus, after some thought, Chen Wen made his decision.

”If I can’t find an alternative to skis soon, I’ll have to consider bringing skis as my third piece of equipment.”

Chen Wen gently rubbed his temples and continued to flip through the equipment list.

The equipment list for the Eight Extremes Challenge was different from that for wilderness survival.

The wilderness survival list had more stringent requirements.

For the Eight Extremes Challenge, as long as the equipment could pass approval, it could be brought along.

Thus, in terms of many pieces of equipment, the association gave the participants a lot of autonomy.

Chen Wen looked at the equipment, listening to music through his headphones.

He listened to music quite randomly, whether domestic or international, folk or rock, he listened to almost anything.

While listening to music, he suddenly heard a song that sounded like the theme from an anti-Japanese war drama.

Listening to the stirring sound, the somewhat troubled Chen Wen simply closed his eyes, planning to rest for a bit.

And, as he rested, scenes from some anti-Japanese war dramas naturally popped into his mind.

Stuff like tearing apart enemies with bare hands, bun bombs, etc.

Some divine drama snippets he had seen in a past life came back to Chen Wen’s mind.

And as he reminisced.

Suddenly, Chen Wen opened his eyes abruptly.

A pot!

Chen Wen sat up suddenly, recalling a scene.

Japanese troops seizing a cooking pot, mistakenly thinking of the pot as an important target — a classic scene.

Could such an exaggeratedly big pot be used?

Chen Wen contemplated.

Generally, such a big pot had a large capacity and should be able to fit Chen Wen inside, using it like a sled to slide down snowy slopes.

Moreover, if he got someone to custom-make it during this period, he could definitely create a big, sturdy pot.

However, whether sledding with a pot was reliable or not remained to be discussed.

Chen Wen thought for a moment and decided to find a big pot first and try it on a snowy slope.

There were two days left before he had to submit his equipment, so he wasn’t in a hurry.

...

With this idea in mind, Chen Wen contacted Lin Jiawei and Jiang Chang to ask them to help him find a big pot and a snowy slope.

Although they were shocked by how Chen Wen came up with this idea, Lin Jiawei still set out with Jiang Chang to find the things Chen Wen needed.

About half an hour later.

Lin Jiawei found Chen Wen: ”We found a snowy slope nearby, at a ski resort. It’s the off-season for tourism, so we can rent a slope there for practical trials.”

”As for the big pot, Jiang Chang found one at a restaurant, where he bought a brand-new, unused one.”

Chen Wen nodded and said: ”Not bad, not bad, you guys are reliable!”

With their help, by the afternoon, Chen Wen geared up and arrived at the ski resort.

The staff around couldn’t help but look curiously at Chen Wen, who had brought a big pot.

They thought he was probably an online influencer shooting a skit.

However, Chen Wen didn’t care.

At this time, Chen Wen, fully dressed, arrived at the top of the snow slope.

The snow here was artificial, different from natural snow.

Artificial snow consisted mostly of ice crystals, making it firmer, while natural snow was softer.

But for now, Chen Wen didn’t need to worry about these differences.

There were also notable differences between the snowy slopes here and the ones in the wild.

The ski resort’s snowy slopes were well-suited for skiing, with moderate inclines and smooth, unobstructed paths, making them quite stable.

Riding the chairlift up to the higher part of the slope, Chen Wen took the big pot off.

Beside him, Jiang Chang, also fully geared up, followed him on skis.

She was a self-proclaimed skiing expert, thus responsible for following Chen Wen, providing him with minimal security.

However, Chen Wen’s real safety net was a ski coach nearby.

The veteran ski coach, watching Chen Wen attempt to ski with a pot, couldn’t help but sigh inwardly: ”The world’s gone mad, rich folks are now skiing in pots?”

Nonetheless, the ski coach maintained a friendly service attitude.

He introduced the snow slope’s conditions and important points to note, then stood a little distance from Chen Wen, planning to go down together later.

As for Chen Wen, he was ready too.

Sitting cross-legged in the pot, he asked Jiang Chang to give him a push.

Once the pot reached the snowy slope, its smooth bottom slid effortlessly down the slope.

Chen Wen squinted, feeling the wind whizz past his ears.

It was confirmed that skiing in a pot was very feasible.

But as the speed increased, skiing in a pot revealed its downsides.

The first problem Chen Wen discovered was that the pot couldn’t change direction.

Without ski edges or a design for turning, Chen Wen couldn’t control the direction with his strength.

He could only let the pot go.

Had this been a wild mountain slope, he would have certainly crashed straight into an obstacle.

Additionally, as speed increased, another critical problem emerged.

The pot began to spin!

Chen Wen narrowed his eyes, thinking about the cause.

He quickly realized the pot’s round bottom easily caused it to spin or roll wildly on the snow surface.

This could lead to dizziness and bumps, potentially causing neck or spinal injuries.

It seemed ensuring the pot didn’t spin was also a problem!

Chen Wen took a deep breath.

As he barely controlled the pot down the slope, another issue arose.

The pot had no brakes.

Upon reaching the slope’s bottom, going faster than Chen Wen could balance.

The pot flipped with a bang, and Chen Wen was thrown out by the sliding momentum.

Immediately, Chen Wen clung onto his head, curled up, and protected himself.

After rolling a few times at the bottom, he easily stood up.

Jiang Chang and the ski coach soon arrived, nervously asking Chen Wen how he was.

Chen Wen waved them off: ”I’m fine. In this trial, I found three major problems.”

”First, the pot can’t steer; second, as it speeds up, it spins, throwing people out; third, it has no brakes.”

After speaking, Chen Wen looked at the ski coach: ”Mr. Zhang, what do you think? If we were to improve it, where should we start?”

Although Chen Wen had some improvement ideas, consulting a professional was still best.

Upon hearing this, Mr. Zhang made a difficult face.

He felt the pot wasn’t what needed improving.

But after thinking, Mr. Zhang said: ”For improvements, I think it’s better to start from two aspects. One is adding a structure similar to skis, welding a steel plate on each side at the pot’s bottom to reduce spinning risks.”

”The other is using something like ski poles to control balance, slow down, brake, and change direction.”

”And if you’re worried about being thrown out, you could try adding a seatbelt or similar safety feature.”

Listening to Mr. Zhang’s suggestions, Chen Wen’s brow unfurled: ”Just like that! I’ve got ideas now. Oh right, Mr. Zhang, do you have ropes and skis around here? And some ski poles, please get me some.”
