Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 547: Chapter 46: Exploration

As the red fox departed, Chen Wen also opened the system to extract the entries.

[Extracting for the natural creature – Red Fox!]

[Extracting... Extraction complete!]

[Please choose one of the following three entries]

[Loner (Purple): You are better at surviving alone, with enhanced perception ability, and more vigorous energy and stamina when alone]

[Note: A solitary fox is the strongest fox — Red Fox]

[Fox Friend (Purple): You can easily gain the trust of small to medium-sized predators and are more liked by badgers, who will accept you living with them]

[Note: Who doesn’t want a fox friend? — Red Fox]

[Tail Gland (Red Fox) (Purple): You have acquired a new organ – Tail Gland (Red Fox), now you can secrete a foul odor that will make predators reluctant to bite. ps: This is an organ entry, and you may activate or deactivate it at will, your body can naturally adapt to this new organ, and the new organ will also adapt to your body]

[Note: Dislike the smell? This could be a life-saver! — Red Fox]

[Please make a choice or forfeit within one minute! Failure to choose will automatically select the first entry!]

The red fox unexpectedly provided an organ entry, which counts as a combat entry, surprising Chen Wen a bit.

However, he was not going to choose it.

The fox’s smell is notoriously foul, and only the skunk can overshadow the fox in this regard.

Moreover, in the past few days, Chen Wen had also smelled the fox’s odor.

But since the Wolf Mink had arrived first, he got used to this strange smell, so it didn’t affect him too much.

But if he started secreting the odor himself, that wouldn’t do.

He absolutely couldn’t stand that.

Furthermore, the [Loner] entry is quite suitable for current use.

After all, he’s in solitary living, choosing this fits the specialization.

However, the [Fox Friend] entry is more unique, as these kinds of entries, which make you more loved by animals, are rare.

It’s hard for Chen Wen to reject it.

Moreover, small to medium-sized predators cover a very wide range.

From birds to beasts, even carnivorous fish swimming in water.

They are all likely to be influenced by this entry.

Also, the entry gives an added benefit with regard to badgers, making it even better.

After all, badgers have a widespread distribution, including Wolf Mink, dog badger...

They most likely fall into this category.

It’s not a bad choice at all.

Ultimately, Chen Wen chose the [Fox Friend] entry.

Perhaps someday there’ll be a [Dog Buddy] entry, ideally establishing a good relationship with all canines, which would be perfect.

Chen Wen thought.

However, such an entry probably doesn’t exist, as the red fox provided this entry due to one of its survival habits.

In some places, red foxes cohabitate in burrows with badgers.

This is quite a rare scenario.

After selecting the entry, Chen Wen rested.

...

The next day.

As the weather cleared, Chen Wen began activities again.

In the morning, he kept busy with the usual tasks of chopping wood, moving stones, and building shelters.

But by noon, Chen Wen boiled the boletes and Wolf Mink together for a meal.

Although the taste of the Wolf Mink was terribly bad, the boletes helped to neutralize it, rendering it somewhat edible.

After consuming the meat, the entry was granted.

The Wolf Mink did not disappoint Chen Wen’s expectations and gave a combat entry.

[Detect Weakness (Purple): You are better at spotting the weaknesses of animals and targeting their vulnerable points during attacks, making it easier to cause bleeding wounds]

[Note: With this bite, you are in for some trouble! — Wolf Mink]

The boletus offered a rather ordinary entry.

[Symbiosis with Roots (Blue): When living on tree roots, energy absorption rate is enhanced]

[Note: Coexist with the roots to grow faster! — Boletus]

After acquiring the entries, in the afternoon, Chen Wen went out to check the fishing nets.

The Wolf Mink stayed behind to watch the house, as Chen Wen took the red fox with him to the previous fishing spot.

The red fox was quite curious upon seeing the fishing net: ”Human, why do you hang this thing in the trees and submerge it in water?”

Chen Wen explained: ”This is for fishing. The net will trap the passing fish in the water, and once I pull the net up, we’ll have fish to eat.”

The red fox asked with more curiosity: ”Where’re the fish?”

”...”

Chen Wen remained silent.

I want to know that too!

Where are the fish?

Why suddenly there’s nothing caught?

Chen Wen sighed, tidied the empty net a bit, and then placed it back into the water.

Lost at the East, retrieved by the Mulberry Elm.

With the [Forest Elf]’s boost, his luck in the forest had been pretty good.

Therefore, a bit of bad luck in the water was acceptable.

Chen Wen consoled himself with this thought.

After all, if his luck was constantly good, he’d be scared too.

What did that picture say?

A short-lived Acipenser baerii.jpg.

After some self-consolation, Chen Wen glanced at the sky, noticing it was still early.

There weren’t any other tasks back home anyway.

So Chen Wen called the red fox to explore along with him.

The red fox was naturally eager.

As a canine, the red fox indeed shares some similarities with dogs.

That is, they both love taking walks.

The feeling of staying indoors at the camp was no match for the feeling of going out.

Especially having witnessed Chen Wen’s prowess, it became significantly less afraid of this once treacherous forest.

...

With the long spear in hand and the red fox in tow, Chen Wen began exploring.

This time, the area he explored was a vast hillside nearby.

Last time he passed by it but didn’t attempt to climb for a view, mainly because time was tight then.

But now it was different.

Chen Wen led the red fox, ascending along the sunny side of the hill, taking in the vistas along the way.

To be honest, it felt like a spring outing.

However, while Chen Wen did enjoy the scenery, he also meticulously observed the hillside’s condition.

But to his slight disappointment, this hill didn’t provide any berries or other edible plants like the one where he previously found blueberries.

Moreover, traces of animals were scarce.

Only a small lump of feces left behind by some unknown creature was found.

The feces were black, with hair and white bone fragments.

Most likely from a carnivore, but really small in size.

Possibly a Wolf Mink, or even smaller.

Chen Wen shook his head, having no intentions of hunting.

Firstly, since he was raising a Wolf Mink, deliberately hunting another might unsettle the one at home.

Moreover, the Wolf Mink’s flavor was horrendous!

The meat seemed both dry and tough, and there was a pungent stench lingering.

Eating it was quite a challenge.

Adding salt didn’t help much either.

So Chen Wen and the red fox headed directly to the top of the hill.

There, Chen Wen climbed a tree to look out over the surroundings.

The view was expansive from this height, revealing more to see.

Under the heightened scrutiny of Chen Wen’s enhanced vision, he quickly made a discovery.
