Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 542: Chapter 41: Cooperation

The red fox was eating the meat strips with its big mouth while quietly observing Chen Wen.

Seeing that Chen Wen made no move to attack, it felt somewhat at ease.

After the red fox finished eating, Chen Wen said, ”I agree to your proposal.”

The red fox was stunned, then immediately became excited.

But before it could speak, Chen Wen said, ”However, the conditions can be modified a bit, I’m not a bad person.”

Red Fox: ...

Not a bad person, yet you tied me up over there for an entire afternoon?

Not a bad person, yet you carried me here hanging by my four legs?

Not a bad person, yet you threatened me with a knife?

But you’re impressive; whatever you say goes.

The red fox kept silent and continued to listen to Chen Wen’s words.

Chen Wen continued, ”You help me, I help you, but the work you do is similar to Wolf Mink’s. It’s called Wolf Mink, also known as Wolverine; the job is simple, protect the camp. If any outside animals try to steal food, you two are responsible for driving them away.”

”Of course, that’s the job for now. There may be more work in the future, but none of it will be dangerous.”

”As for me helping you, I’ll provide food and a place to live, and if you encounter danger, I’ll help you deal with it. Simply speaking, food and board are covered, and protection is provided.”

Listening to Chen Wen’s words, the red fox felt like there was something wrong with its ears.

Food and board covered?

Protection provided?

If you had said this earlier, wouldn’t I have come with you long ago?

Is there a need for all this trouble?!

The red fox wanted to cry.

At this point, there was movement on Chen Wen’s side.

[You have gained the recognition of a friend, please extract the entry your friend has prepared for you]

[Your friend—the red fox, has prepared a gift for you]

[Extracting... extraction complete!]

[Please choose one of the following three entries]

[Night Vision (Gold): You now have night vision ability, making night as bright as day to you, enhancing your eyesight, enabling you to see farther and smaller things]

[Note: My eyes are among my strongest abilities! — Red Fox]

[Environmental Adaptation (Gold): You are extremely adaptable to all environments except polar ice caps and deserts, increasing your survival ability in such environments]

[Note: My adaptability is also one of my strongest abilities! — Red Fox]

[Cunning (Purple): You’ll become more cunning, thinking more actively and creatively]

[Note: Cunning is my survival philosophy in this forest! — Red Fox]

The quality of the three entries from the red fox was very high and all quite useful.

[Environmental Adaptation] provides adaptability to most environments, except for two extreme ones.

Very nice.

[Night Vision] gives Chen Wen night survival ability and boosts his eyesight.

Also quite impressive.

As for [Cunning], Chen Wen doesn’t need it.

Because humans are the most cunning creatures in nature.

After considering comprehensively, Chen Wen chose the [Environmental Adaptation] entry with the widest applicable range.

The selection of the entry ended, which also marked the official joining of the red fox.

Chen Wen gave the red fox more food as appeasement, and as agreed, provided housing for it.

This completely set the red fox’s mind at ease.

Since the red fox had just joined, Chen Wen advised it to learn how to keep watch at night with Wolf Mink.

Wolf Mink wasn’t very keen on the red fox.

But as the red fox actively started a conversation, Wolf Mink gradually began to accept the red fox.

Seeing this scene, Chen Wen couldn’t help but click his tongue.

This cunning personality, once subdued, is really useful.

...

One night passed.

By morning, Chen Wen noticed that the red fox and Wolf Mink were already conversing.

Their relationship was fairly good.

After a brief exchange with the two animals, Chen Wen also got busy with his own work.

Now that traps and fishing nets have been set up, time must be allocated to inspect them.

Traps are checked every two days, as Chen Wen found this to be the optimal interval.

Chen Wen planned to check the fishing nets once a day.

Besides the risk of other animals by the water getting to the fish first, the nets also need daily inspection to avoid damage.

Therefore, the afternoon was almost completely occupied.

Seizing the morning hours, Chen Wen began to build a fireplace.

Because the weather had become overcast since this morning.

If nothing unexpected occurs, it’s likely that today or tomorrow will bring an extremely cold autumn rain.

”If you two have nothing to do this morning, you could try cooperating in hunting.”

Chen Wen, about to start working, felt uneasy seeing the idle Wolf Mink and red fox, reviving a plan he had envisioned earlier.

Which is to let two communicative animals cooperate in hunting.

This hunting method not only enhances the rapport and relationship between the two animals but also alleviates the food pressure.

Most importantly, it makes Chen Wen feel balanced.

Achieving three goals at once.

Upon hearing Chen Wen’s suggestion, the red fox curiously got up.

Cooperation in hunting?

It glances at Wolf Mink.

It knows better than anyone the prowess of this fellow.

Just having intruded into this territory, Wolf Mink pinpointed my location from a hundred meters away.

And began the pursuit and bite.

If I hadn’t been quick-witted enough to weave through the narrow gaps between trees several times.

I would have been pinned down by this guy.

Even yesterday afternoon, this guy was the first to spot me.

Either in perception or combat strength, the red fox felt inferior to Wolf Mink.

Thus, if cooperating in hunting with Wolf Mink.

The red fox feels that with its intelligence, plus Wolf Mink’s skills, they might catch quite a few prey.

The red fox became interested and looked at Wolf Mink to seek its opinion.

Wolf Mink was also a restless type.

On top of being a glutton, although Chen Wen’s place provides enough food, it still wanted to munch on something.

It’s like people who need to snack even after finishing a full meal.

Wolf Mink also wanted to go out and get some snacks.

The two animals exchanged a glance and started to move.

Before leaving, Chen Wen reminded them: ”No matter what prey you catch, remember to bring it back for me to see. If it’s a prey I’ve caught before, do as you please, but if it’s one I haven’t, I’d like a small portion.”

Neither animal objected to this request.

They both answered affirmatively and swiftly disappeared into the forest.

...

In the following scene.

The three monitors had their minds overwhelmed by a barrage of messages these past two days.

Leaving aside Chen Wen’s mechanical work progress.

Just the fact that he tamed the red fox and made it get along harmoniously with Wolf Mink.

Already made it hard for them to accept.

Moreover, now, without Chen Wen following along, the red fox that joined just yesterday could actually go out with Wolf Mink.

This led Monitor One to say: ”If this red fox goes out, it probably won’t come back, right?”

”After all, it was only tamed yesterday; its loyalty probably wouldn’t be high enough to return after going out?”

Lin Jiawei didn’t speak.

He wasn’t sure either.

Because Chen Wen’s animal-taming methods are simply too ridiculous.

Not something you can gauge with common sense.

However, recalling when Chen Wen tamed animals before, the ones tamed usually had high loyalty to Chen Wen without him having to restrain them.

At this moment the guide spoke up.

He remembered his previous pets: ”Animals vary, I had a hunting dog before that recognized me as its master the day after I brought it home, but another dog of the same breed took over a month to do the same.”

”This red fox might just be one of those easily getting attached.”

Listening to the guide, the monitors had a look of sudden realization.

And Lin Jiawei tried hard to suppress his laughter, saying nothing.
