Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 503: Chapter 2: The Legend of the Albino Moose

The next day, Chen Wen personally went to the ”Snowfield” Club to select two experienced old hunters.

After setting a time, Chen Wen paid the deposit.

Back at his residence, Chen Wen began to organize his luggage.

Since he became the brand ambassador for Lv Guocheng’s outdoor brand.

Lv Guocheng gave Chen Wen a full set of custom wilderness gear when they signed the contract.

This included clothes, weapons, backpacks, and more.

All were custom-made according to Chen Wen’s needs.

After organizing the gear, Chen Wen entered study mode in his room.

With his excellent memory, he memorized all the information about Great Slave Lake without missing a word.

He paid special attention to the animal habits around Great Slave Lake and some animal migration behaviors.

After studying in the room for seven days, the appointment time finally arrived.

Chen Wen packed his luggage, bade farewell to his two assistants, and then headed to the Snowfield Club.

The two old hunters had also packed their bags, and after signing a contract with Chen Wen, the three of them set off together.

...

As local hunting guides, the two old hunters were not only experienced but also very talkative.

They shared a lot of local knowledge with Chen Wen, things not found in any books.

Like on the second day of adaptive survival.

At that time, Chen Wen’s group arrived at a highland by the lake.

The three of them gazed at the lake and spotted a moose swimming in the water.

The bearded old hunter immediately said, ”Moose are good swimmers. It’s quite common to see them wading in the water by the lake. At times like these, if you have a bow and arrows, you can try to shoot its vital parts just as it’s about to come ashore.”

The short-bearded hunter nodded in agreement, saying, ”That’s right. However, the moose’s body is huge. Their skin is tough, and they have very high muscle density. If the bow’s poundage is too low, it might not even pierce its skin, let alone hit its vital organs.”

Watching the swimming moose, Chen Wen recalled his time in the Yukon.

Back then, he had tamed a female moose, and its skin was indeed very tough.

”I’m not good with bows and arrows, so I might use a long spear as a javelin to hunt the moose,”

Chen Wen said.

These words made the two old hunters exchange glances.

They knew Chen Wen’s identity, but they hadn’t expected someone to dare challenge Great Slave Lake without a bow and arrow.

”I hope your luck is great, otherwise, the accuracy of a javelin for hunting animals is really too low,”

The bearded man gave an honest evaluation.

Chen Wen nodded with a smile: ”I usually have pretty good luck in the woods.”

The conversation among men can veer in many directions, and as the topic opened up, the three of them began chatting.

The short-bearded man spoke of a local legend about moose.

”Speaking of luck, there’s a popular saying around here.”

Leading the way while speaking, the short-bearded man said, ”Among moose, there exists a very rare albino moose. If you encounter an albino moose, your luck will become exceptionally good.”

Albino moose?

Chen Wen looked at the short-bearded man with surprise: ”Albinism?”

”No, albino moose are a special genetic expression.”

The bearded man was well-informed about albino moose: ”In my lifetime of hunting, the moose I’ve hunted number at least a hundred, and those I’ve seen exceed a thousand, but I’ve never encountered an albino moose in real life, only seen its photos online.”

The short-bearded man next to them grinned proudly upon hearing this.

The bearded man, well aware of his friend and colleague, chuckled and said, ”This old guy once saw an albino moose in the lake area, with his own eyes.”

The short-bearded man nodded with satisfaction: ”Yes, it was an extremely marvelous creature, like it stepped out of a legendary tale and appeared before me. Since then, my life has gone smoothly.”

Well, it sounds pretty mystical.

Chen Wen said, ”I understand. I hope I can encounter the moose you’re talking about.”

...

On the night of the fifth day of adaptive survival,

by the campfire, Chen Wen and the bearded man, along with the short-bearded man, drank merrily.

”Chen, you have no idea how wonderful the taste of women is.”

The bearded man spoke with the demeanor of someone who’s been there.

The short-bearded man agreed, ”That feeling can only be experienced, not described.”

Chen Wen was at a loss for words.

Do foreigners always talk this bluntly with acquaintances?

Tonight, after starting to drink, the two foreigners kept reminiscing about their romantic pasts.

The bearded man took a big swig of his drink and started talking about his first woman: ”Aili, my first girlfriend, Chen, you can hardly imagine how alluring her lips were.”

”They were like plump, ripe Yukon berries, irresistible, with a tart yet slightly sweet taste...”

Just as the bearded man closed his eyes, seemingly reliving those days,

a sudden commotion of footsteps arose around the camp.

The three, who had been tipsy, instantly became alert, their intoxication evaporating.

The bearded man grabbed his large-caliber shotgun, his self-defense tool, capable of downing even a grizzly bear with one shot.

The short-bearded man instantly grasped his bow and arrow, keeping a steady watch on the side bushes.

Holding his long spear, Chen Wen’s eyes glimmered with a faint golden hue reflected by the campfire.

”It’s a wolverine.”

Chen Wen recognized the familiar silhouette, with two wolverines passing by them, curiously eyeing their side.

”Ah, those damned little creatures!”

The short-bearded man cursed, then sat back down.

Three adult men, all skilled hunters.

No matter how many wolverines came, they would hardly be the ones to flee.

The bearded man sat back as well, sighing: ”Wolverines, they’re just like my second girlfriend, Sasha; cunning and ferocious. Though they have a charm, they also kept me from spending delightful nights with many other women.”

Ah, this is an old scoundrel.

Chen Wen smirked, offering no comment to the bearded man’s analogy.

At that moment, the short-bearded man, as a guide, gave Chen Wen a noteworthy piece of advice: ”If you want to survive, food storage must be taken seriously.”

”Because of wolverines, right?”

Chen Wen, recalling the wolverines that just appeared, laughed and said, ”I’ve heard these little guys are notorious camp raiders.”

The short-bearded man laughed heartily and nodded: ”Indeed. They’re absolutely vexing and very strong. If you don’t store your food well, they can drag all your food away in just one night.”

”Moreover, in recent years, the wolverines in the lake area seem to have gone into a mating frenzy, producing offspring wildly, causing their numbers to skyrocket. My daughter works in an animal protection agency and told me the wolverine population in the lake area is nearing an overflow.”

Chen Wen nodded, taking note of the short-bearded man’s advice.

The bearded man chimed in: ”Yes, just like Sasha, unearthing all my lovers within a month.”

The word ’unearthing’ was used rather aptly.

Chen Wen chuckled twice.

The three clinked their glasses again, as the aroma of the roasted pork chops wafted through the air by the campfire.

The night belonging to men continued.

...

On the tenth day of adaptive survival,

following the Snowfield Club’s route, the three reached a cabin deep in the wilderness of Great Slave Lake.

This is a supply station and rest stop set up by the Snowfield Club.

As dusk approached, the three couldn’t help but quicken their pace.

Upon entering the cabin, the bearded man and the short-bearded man, familiar with the routine, began making a fire and cooking.

Chen Wen was tidying up the bedding on the side.

As the aroma of the meals rose, the three planned to drink once more.

However, just as the bearded man gleefully opened a bottle, a sudden series of footsteps sounded outside.

The three instantly became alert.
