Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 518: Chapter 17: Semi-Subterranean Architecture

Watching the water still boiling, Chen Wen had some thoughts.

Hot water can certainly be drunk, but it doesn’t have an entry.

Therefore, after observing the surroundings, Chen Wen went and broke off some pine branches.

After picking off the pine needles, he threw the branches into the campfire without wasting a bit.

The pine needles were placed into the pot by Chen Wen.

He planned to brew a pot of pine needle tea.

Pine needles can be soaked in water for drinking.

Though these things have a very peculiar smell which some people might not be able to accept.

But they are harmless.

On the contrary, they are quite nutritious.

In some ancient Chinese medical texts, pine needles are often depicted as an excellent remedy for treating tumors, wind-cold-dampness syndrome.

Drinking them as tea can prolong life, promote health, and resist aging.

Modern science has also proven that pine needles do have some effects.

Additionally, pine needles can enhance human immunity, assist in treating high blood pressure, diabetes, lower blood lipids, and regulate blood pressure.

They can even soften blood vessels, prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, regulate endocrine, and increase hormone secretion.

However, this thing is not suitable for continuous consumption, occasional drinking is fine.

But drinking continuously will have a negative impact on the digestive system.

Like causing diarrhea or something.

However, Chen Wen didn’t think much about it, he just wanted to make an entry.

With the ongoing heat from the campfire, this pot of pine needle tea was slowly brewing.

”It’s done!”

After a few minutes, Chen Wen’s face showed a satisfied expression.

The pot had been boiling for quite a while.

Carefully, he removed the pot from the campfire.

Chen Wen set it aside to cool.

Meanwhile, he took the opportunity to continue planning the construction of the house.

At this time, the drone was manually operated by the staff and came to Chen Wen’s side.

Noticing the drone, Chen Wen realized what was happening.

He aimed the camera he just taken off at the ground and said, ”I’ve just planned the construction of the house, and I now have a clue.”

Hearing Chen Wen’s words, the monitor couldn’t help but lean forward.

This young man had already shown his potential and abilities, now his actions intrigued the monitor as well.

He was very curious to know how this young man would construct his shelter.

...

After aiming the camera at the items on the ground, Chen Wen explained, ”This is the planning diagram I just drew, everyone may not understand, let me explain.”

”The house I intend to build draws inspiration from Hua Country’s semi-subterranean architecture, which is a six-thousand-year-old architectural style from northern Hua Country.”

Six thousand years!

This time frame truly surprised the monitor.

At this moment, the guide also came over.

He also started to watch.

Noticing the situation here, Greg also curiously switched back, planning to see what antics Chen Wen was up to.

Chen Wen continued, ”This type of architecture was discovered at the Banpo Ruins in Hua Country, it’s very beneficial for cold resistance and warmth retention, and to some extent, it can also resist beast attacks.”

”To briefly introduce this architecture: semi-subterranean architecture, as the name suggests, is a type of architecture similar to an underground dwelling. It uses a sturdy main beam as support, with the main beam as the center, digging about a meter into the ground, and then fixing the main beam in the middle.”

”Around it, wooden frames are built for the house, with walls made from a mixture of loess and grassroots, overall it’s not too complex.”

”However, I made improvements to this type of architecture, and it became somewhat complicated.”

Chen Wen switched the topic and started to describe his idea: ”I plan to use this depression as the main location, dig a pit about a meter deep, erect a wooden post in the middle, and build a framework with wood around it, then I plan to use stones to build the walls!”

Stones!

Using such material?

The guide and the monitor exchanged glances.

Before, some contestants attempted to build stone houses, but without exception, none succeeded.

Because moving stones is an extremely labor-intensive task!

Moreover, wooden houses are already sufficient for living, so there’s no need to spend so much energy and effort for a small improvement by building a stone house.

But Chen Wen didn’t think so.

He knew very well that the improvement brought by a stone house was not just on the surface.

Beyond the surface improvement, there are significant hidden improvements with regard to psychology, safety, and protection from the elements.

Chen Wen continued, ”Stone walls will be built, separated by wooden boards in the middle to create two rooms. After all, this place is quite large, with one room for living and one for storing food. On the side against the hillside, I plan to place the door here, while leaving room for a chimney and a fireplace on the other side.”

As Chen Wen explained, not to mention the guide and the monitor, even Lin Jiawei was stunned.

This amount of work, is this a joke?

This is one hundred days of survival, not a year!

Why make it so complicated!

Can the stamina consumption be endured?

Lin Jiawei thought in shock.

But Greg became excited.

This house, to say nothing else, its safety and durability are really good!

If Chen Wen really manages to build it, by next year, if a contestant finds this house, they can renovate it slightly and continue to live there!

But as others have thought, this house is too energy-consuming.

At the very least, nearly a thousand kilograms of stones would need to be moved for adequate use.

And at least ten trees would need to be cut down for wood.

Such consumption, if there isn’t enough food support, cannot be sustained at all!

The stride is too big, it might lead to injury!

Greg thought of a local saying while continuing to listen to Chen Wen talk.

...

Chen Wen was well aware that, at this moment, Lin Jiawei might be somewhat overwhelmed.

After all, he hadn’t discussed house construction with him before, which led Lin Jiawei to think Chen Wen was building a regular wooden house.

Unfortunately, after communicating with Roland, Chen Wen was heavily influenced by him.

So he completely abandoned the wooden house and instead constructed the stone house he had previously envisioned.

And as it happened, the terrain here was also suitable for semi-subterranean architecture.

Thus, Chen Wen had a vague feeling that he might really need to build a stone house to win this duel.

Chen Wen didn’t reveal too many construction details.

He merely outlined his plan: ”Today is for digging out the house, and also for gathering materials. In the evening, I’ll put together a simple shelter with waterproof and tent fabric to use initially.”

”In the following days, I plan to finish a bit every day, building a bit, first establishing a place to live, and then after the living condition stabilizes and there’s enough food, I’ll continue.”

Hearing that the house wouldn’t be built in a short period, Lin Jiawei let out a sigh of relief.

As long as it’s not reckless.

Take it steadily, take it slowly, maybe it can actually be accomplished?

Lin Jiawei consoled himself, but very honestly recorded this information, planning to send it to Liu Yu.

Liu Yu was very interested in this competition, especially since two juniors he was optimistic about were participating.

He specifically instructed the assistants of Chen Wen and Hua Yun to record critical information, report daily, and distribute bonuses after returning.

While Lin Jiawei was recording, Chen Wen began drinking tea.

Putting the cleaned can lid into the pot, filling it with a can of water, along with some pine needles.

Chen Wen drank in small sips.

He directly ate the pine needles as well.

With the warmth of the pine needle tea entering his digestive system, waves of warmth spread through Chen Wen’s digestive system, reaching into his organs and limbs.

Although he had the Cold Resistance entry, this entry only made Chen Wen more tolerant.

The sensation of cold wouldn’t disappear.

After drinking the tea and eating the pine needles, Chen Wen gained his first entry for this survival challenge.
