Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 508: Chapter 7: It’s Raining at the Survival Site

Chen Wen’s choice of tools surprised quite a few people.

After all, his toolkit didn’t include a magnesium rod, also known as a fire-starting rod.

Surviving in extremely cold regions without a fire starter is a very risky decision.

Because the temperature and environment here dictate that if you don’t carry a fire starter,

you won’t be able to stray far from the shelter in the later stages of survival.

You can’t even let the fire go out.

Liu Yu heard about this and even took some time to specially contact Chen Wen.

To inquire about the reason.

At that time, Chen Wen said bluntly: ”I have the confidence to create a fire preservation device in the wilderness.”

Liu Yu didn’t say much, just reminded Chen Wen to pay attention to the fire later.

Not carrying a fire rod wasn’t Chen Wen being overconfident.

He genuinely has the confidence to make fire without relying on a fire rod.

In the end, Chen Wen finalized his choice of tools and submitted it, confirming his survival tools completely.

The ten tools: a 12X12 waterproof cloth, an axe, a hacksaw, a hunting knife, a custom long spear, a three-pound block of solid salt, a two-quart pot (with a lid), a fishing net rope, two pounds of number 21 snare wire, and a shovel.

Chen Wen’s choice highlighted a mix of prudence and audacity.

The prudent choice came from a large number of tools, which others couldn’t match.

The audacious part lies in not carrying a fire-starting device, no sleeping bag, no rope, no bow and arrow, no bear spray, or whistle.

But this is also a unique style of Chen Wen.

Others can’t imitate it.

Compared to Chen Wen, other people’s tool choices.

Have similar points, and have their own characteristics.

For example, Adam carried fewer tools but more survival equipment.

According to Chen Wen, this is a cautious approach seeking progress.

Hua Yun went light and, after discussing with the show team, brought a small off-road trailer.

Specially used to store supplies and prey, for hunting expeditions.

This time Hua Yun summarized the experience of failure from last time and re-selected her tools.

It’s also considered a very personal style of choice.

Roland’s choice was similar to Chen Wen, leaning towards more tools.

Especially the axe and saw; when most people choose either, both he and Chen Wen chose to have both.

Gaston and Shijing Heren’s choices were relatively moderate.

Vini’s choice was more of a standard model.

Fred was somewhat similar to Chen Wen, but he carried relatively more survival equipment.

Vic’s bow and arrow were his own, but due to his self-provided bow and arrow, there were some unpleasant issues with the show team.

Because Vic’s bow and arrow exceeded the show team’s standards.

As a result, Vic had to have a new longbow airlifted in to meet the standards.

Phil was average, without standout points or flaws.

Once all the contestants completed their tool selections, the survival officially entered the countdown phase.

...

The day after submitting the tool list.

The contestant’s tools were distributed.

Chen Wen carefully checked his tools, ensuring there were no flaws or damages, and then securely stored them away.

But it was also on this day.

Chen Wen received some unfriendly news that it was raining at the survival location.

The drawback of not carrying a fire-starting rod instantly appeared, even somewhat fatally.

This caused quite a bit of anxiety and concern for Chen Wen’s two assistants.

”Are you sure there’s no problem? I saw the local photos, and it’s raining heavily. Due to the rain, the local temperature has dropped a lot, and everything has become damp.”

Lin Jiawei said very worriedly.

Chen Wen glanced at the photos.

The rain was indeed heavy, almost reaching moderate rain.

And this rain hasn’t ended yet, turning into light rain and showers.

It’s estimated that by the start of survival, the environment will definitely be very wet.

”Should we replace one of the tools and bring a fire starter? Anyway, there’s still a chance for adjustments now.”

Jiang Chang suggested from the side.

She had carefully studied the show’s rules this time, and the show didn’t restrict tool changes.

It might take some time, but if the fire-starting rod could be replaced, it’s worth it.

But Chen Wen shook his head and told the two not to worry.

However, he didn’t explain why, which didn’t ease the assistants’ concerns at all.

In the end, with the two persistently questioning.

Chen Wen reluctantly said: ”Don’t you know about a masterstroke? If I say it, it won’t work. Anyway, don’t worry, I’m confident I can start a fire that night!”

Alright then.

Only then did Jiang Chang and Lin Jiawei stop questioning, but they were still secretly worried.

...

Survival countdown: three days.

The third-to-last night’s evening, Hua Yun visited Chen Wen.

”Are you nervous?”

Hua Yun sat on the chair in the living room, back very straight.

Seeing her demeanor, Chen Wen couldn’t help but smile: ”You came to find me in the middle of the night just to ask that?”

”Why not?”

Chen Wen didn’t respond, just looked at Hua Yun with a big smile.

The two were silent for over a minute.

Only then did Hua Yun sigh lightly: ”Alright, it’s myself who’s nervous. Can’t sleep at night, just wanted to see how you’re doing.”

Only then did Chen Wen return to a serious mode: ”I knew it, so tell me, why are you nervous?”

”Hunting expeditions.”

Hua Yun’s eyes were serious: ”In previous wilderness solitude, no one tried hunting expeditions, only me. But last time I failed, this time... I don’t know if I will succeed.”

Chen Wen nodded: ”Hunting expeditions are indeed very difficult.”

Hearing this, Hua Yun’s heart instantly hung up.

Meanwhile, Lin Jiawei and Jiang Chang were secretly shocked. Jiang Chang even quickly sent a message to Chen Wen.

Asking him to comfort Hua Yun, to avoid stimulating her.

But Chen Wen just glanced at the phone before placing it screen down on the table.

Comforting is of no use at such a time. Only by letting Hua Yun understand the advantages and shortcomings of her actions can she relax and not be anxious.

Therefore, Chen Wen said: ”Remember when we were in the Yukon? We were actually out hunting expeditions, weren’t we?”

”Indeed.”

Hua Yun nodded.

Back then, the two kept on trekking during the early survival stages, almost like hunting expeditions.

”It went smoothly then because our cooperation made it go smoothly.”

Chen Wen said: ”Now, you have to hunt alone, needing to do the work of two people, which becomes very troublesome.”

”Hunting expeditions themselves rely on one’s high mobility, constantly hunting, storing enough food, and then using the stored food to build a shelter and camp, ultimately surviving.”

”But now you’re burdened by two people’s work, the advantage of hunting expeditions immediately disappears, so the purpose of your hunting expeditions is gone, it would be better to camp in place and survive step by step, don’t you think?”

Hua Yun nodded worriedly.

This was what she had been constantly worrying about.

The last failure was due to the continuous addition of prey, and the heavy tools.

Slowing her steps again and again, ultimately delaying a lot of time.

Even if the final prey was abundant, there was no stable shelter built.

Ultimately falling before reaching the championship.

And this time, Hua Yun’s concern was still step delay.
