Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 505: Chapter 4: Attempting to Catch Fish

After setting the net.

Chen Wen and the bearded man stood on the shore, their eyes fixed on the lake shore about five hundred meters away.

”That’s a black bear.”

The bearded man said, ”During this season, the black bears are already starting to store fat. In your first month of survival, it will be the last fat storage period for the black bears, and during that time, their desire to attack will be very strong.”

Chen Wen wasn’t worried about the black bears.

The American black bears aren’t very big or heavy; compared to them, Chen Wen fighting them is like a father fighting his son.

The American black bears can fight back, and they’re this — thumbs up.jpg.

If an American black bear manages to take him out, Chen Wen considers himself to be this — thumbs down.jpg.

”I’m not really worried about the American black bears, but are there grizzly bears here in North America?”

Chen Wen asked.

Hearing this, the bearded man pondered for a while.

He said, ”There shouldn’t be any, grizzly bears tend to go further north to look for food. In recent years, it’s been rare to see grizzly bears in the southern part of the lake area.”

”But it’s not absolute; maybe some grizzly bears will move south due to the cold weather or in pursuit of prey.”

It seems that grizzly bears in North America still need to be on guard against.

Seeing the bearded man’s unconfident tone, Chen Wen took note of this matter in his heart.

After the gill net was set in the water, they waited a whole day.

Chen Wen retrieved the net the next morning.

As the heavy fishing net was dragged ashore by Chen Wen, several large fish caught his attention.

”These are all rainbow trout, looks like this is their active area.”

said the bearded man.

Chen Wen nodded slightly.

The bearded man again talked about matters related to catching rainbow trout, as well as how to catch pike and salmon.

He told Chen Wen to keep these things in mind.

Lastly, the bearded man talked about how to fish when the lake is frozen.

”If you persist until the very end, you can try ice fishing.”

Talking about ice fishing made the bearded man visibly happy: ”When the lake surface is frozen, you can use a rock or a tool to chisel a big hole on the ice; the fishing line can be made by dismantling the fishing net. After all, gill nets can’t be used then, and hooks can be made from found materials or bones.”

”The simplest ice fishing doesn’t even need a rod; you can just put a baited hook down there and wait for a fish to bite, then pull it up. Winter fish are very foolish and easy to catch.”

”My fifth girlfriend Selena is the owner of the fishing gear shop in town. If you find her to buy gear, you can mention my name.”

Chen Wen smiled and said, ”Will there be a discount?”

The bearded man laughed heartily: ”A discount, but it’s a leg discount. I broke her heart back then, just like a fish caught and eaten.”

Alright.

Chen Wen ignored the bearded man’s playboy remarks, making a mental note of the ice fishing details.

He was definitely going to try ice fishing.

In the following days, Chen Wen continuously experimented with gill net fishing, gaining a lot of experience.

...

On the 20th day of the adaptive survival, Chen Wen began the return journey.

Following the return route, the three slowly moved forward.

Meandering through the golden maple forest, Chen Wen felt as if he was in a fantasy world.

”This should be the last viewing season for the maple trees.”

The bearded man sighed with emotion.

Seeing that the bearded man was about to bring up one of his girlfriends again, Short Beard immediately interrupted.

He said, ”There’s a rabbit carcass up ahead, seems to have been gnawed by coyotes.”

Everyone immediately approached.

Sure enough, beneath the covering of maple leaves, was a half-eaten rabbit.

”Are there many coyotes?”

Chen Wen asked.

He’d only seen them once before.

Short Beard nodded slightly: ”Quite a few, but coyotes will flee when they see humans and won’t attack people. Also, the coyotes in the lake area are all loners.”

Talking about wolves, one can’t leave out the gray wolves of North America.

Chen Wen asked, ”Are there North American gray wolves in the lake area?”

Short Beard nodded: ”Yes, but you won’t encounter them until later in your survival period. As the weather gets colder, the gray wolves from the north will slowly migrate south, and you’ll run into them then.”

Noted that information.

Chen Wen thought to himself: The shelter later must not have any problems, or else it would be directly exposed in the gray wolves’ sight.

Being targeted by a pack of gray wolves almost declares a survival failure.

...

On the 30th day of the adaptive survival.

Chen Wen and the two guides arrived at the edge of the wilderness.

It’s the last day.

Both guides were very fatigued, after all, they were both over fifty.

But Short Beard still conscientiously came over to Chen Wen.

Short Beard was an Indian.

Accompanied by a series of mutterings, he used a strange pigment to draw a pattern on Chen Wen’s face.

”The spirits of nature will watch over this land. May you obtain your desires in the lake area.”

Although Chen Wen wasn’t a believer in such things, he respected other people’s beliefs.

Thus, he solemnly waited for the ceremony to conclude.

And thanked Short Beard after it ended.

Short Beard nodded kindly and said, ”This is just a token, hopefully, your luck will become excellent.”

Over there, the bearded man thought for a moment, then removed a pendant from around his neck.

”This is a tooth from a gray wolf I killed last year. Hope it brings you good luck.”

Chen Wen gratefully accepted, expressing his thanks to the bearded man.

Finally, Chen Wen bid farewell to the two guides who had spent thirty days with him in the wilderness and returned alone.

Watching Chen Wen’s silhouette fade away.

Short Beard kept nodding.

The bearded man asked: ”What’s up? You seem really optimistic about him.”

Short Beard, smiling, patted his old brother’s shoulder: ”He’s the first to patiently accept the ritual.”

”Yes, this is a very humble person, and also very strong.”

The bearded man said.

As experts, they could gauge a person’s capability just by looking.

Not to mention, they survived together for thirty days.

Chen Wen’s abilities had already earned their admiration.

If left alone in the wilderness, Chen Wen would definitely survive better than the two of them combined.

Speaking purely about survival skills.

After all, the two hunting guides didn’t know that Chen Wen’s true specialty was Beast Taming.

...

After returning to the production team.

The staff member responsible for liaising with Chen Wen received the news and rushed over immediately.

The staff member handed a stack of documents to Chen Wen and said: ”You’re back just in time, Mr. Chen Wen. Tomorrow night, Director Greg will host a banquet in which many contestants will participate.”

Chen Wen took the documents and nodded, ”I’ll be there on time.”

The staff member nodded: ”These documents are about the participants in this competition. Everyone, including you, has a profile. You can take a look at your opponents this time.”

Weighing the heft of the documents, Chen Wen smiled and said, ”I’m looking forward to it.”

”The strong always cherish the strong.”

The staff member used a local idiom: ”In fifteen days, the survival officially begins. We hope you achieve a satisfactory result.”

Chen Wen nodded in thanks.

After putting away the documents, and seeing the staff member off,

Chen Wen returned to his room.
