Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 536: Chapter 35: Hunting Attempted Again

This time out, Chen Wen’s goal is quite clear.

It’s to check the traps and pick some blueberries along the way.

Therefore, Chen Wen’s actions are swift.

In just under a dozen or so minutes, he arrived at the location of the traps.

After hunting a black bear, Chen Wen is no longer short of food, so he no longer holds the same anticipation for the traps as he did before.

Therefore, when he checked the first few traps and found nothing.

He wasn’t angry or disappointed.

”There’s no catch here. I suspect that after the black bear stole the Arctic hare last time, the bloody scent disturbed the Arctic hare group, and they probably changed their route.”

Chen Wen said, continuing to explore: ”If there’s time later, I feel I should look for the new route of the Arctic hares and move the traps over there. That way, I can catch more Arctic hares.”

”Also, after the shelter is built, I need to take the time to continue exploring the surroundings, feel out the distribution of animals nearby, and also look for useful resources.”

As he was speaking, near the new trap he set up last time.

He suddenly noticed a fluffy thing.

Upon a closer look, Chen Wen’s eyes lit up with joy.

”What a good find!”

He said, quickly walking to the trap and lifting it up, picking up a fat Arctic hare.

”This Arctic hare seems even bigger than the ones I caught before! That’s great!”

Chen Wen couldn’t help but say.

This Arctic hare had been caught for quite some time, very stiff.

After holding the Arctic hare in his hand.

He continued on exploring.

In another trap, Chen Wen found another Arctic hare, but this one seemed to have been partially eaten by some carnivorous bird.

Judging from the wound, it should have happened in the last one or two hours.

It’s still edible, but since he doesn’t know what ate it, Chen Wen plans to leave it for the Wolf Mink.

Give the Wolf Mink a feast.

Besides this, Chen Wen also found a squirrel caught by the head.

”At a glance, this should be an Arctic ground squirrel, though I’m not sure of the exact species, but as long as it’s edible, it’s fine.”

After speaking, Chen Wen also picked up this Arctic ground squirrel.

With the traps checked, it was time to pick blueberries.

Chen Wen arrived at the blueberry hillside, having not visited yesterday, the blueberries had fallen even more today.

Without saying much, he hurried and continued to pick those blueberries that seemed relatively decent, putting them into a black box.

As it got later, Chen Wen finally returned to the shelter with the box full of blueberries.

”Today I almost picked all the blueberries, the rest are either already on the ground or rotten.”

On the way, Chen Wen said.

After picking for such a long time, he roughly estimated that he had seven or eight pounds of blueberries in hand.

After drying them into dried fruit, there could be more than five pounds.

After all, these blueberries were somewhat shriveled when Chen Wen found them.

Back at the shelter, he spread the blueberries on waterproof cloth to dry.

At this time, the Wolf Mink also came over.

It very responsibly said to Chen Wen: ”Today, one of my kind was attracted by the scent and came over. Although I drove it away, I could feel it was very unwilling. If nothing unexpected happens, it will continue to approach and try to steal food. My fighting ability is on par with it. This time I was able to drive it away, but next time it may not be the case. What do you plan to do?”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen frowned.

Another Wolf Mink?

It seems what the stoat said about a Wolverine infestation wasn’t just talk.

After pondering for a while, Chen Wen turned off the recorder (henceforth, conversations with animals default to being off).

He said: ”How about this, would you accept me hunting your kind?”

The Wolf Mink hesitated, then nodded and said: ”I can, but I won’t eat the meat of a companion. Of course, you can eat it.”

With the intelligence it gained, the Wolf Mink’s IQ is growing day by day.

It has already realized that Chen Wen belongs to the apex of the food chain, so it did not refuse.

Moreover, the invading Wolverine is also male and has wandered onto its territory.

Normally, even if Chen Wen hadn’t mentioned it, it would have driven or even injured its kind.

Therefore, after Chen Wen proposed this question.

The Wolf Mink did not refuse.

And the Wolf Mink also had its own thoughts.

If you eat my kind, you won’t eat me, will you?

And eating a companion leaves more food for itself.

With this idea, the Wolf Mink agreed.

Chen Wen then began to elaborate on his plan.

The Wolf Mink listened and nodded frequently, as a new gateway to hunting opened in its mind.

...

As time passed, the night gradually deepened.

The pitch-black night enveloped the land, with only Chen Wen’s camp flickering with an orange-red firelight.

In such silence and harmony.

A Wolverine, about the size of King Kong, slowly approached from the outside.

King Kong raised its head, sniffing the air.

It had already discovered its kind and devised a strategy to deal with it.

Following Chen Wen’s instructions, King Kong started emitting peculiar howls.

Hearing the sound, the invading Wolverine immediately became alert.

It wobbled closer, also letting out a series of howls.

The two Wolverines, finding each other displeasing, were ready to fight.

King Kong was fiercely brave, leaping forward and instantly knocking the Wolverine to the ground.

The Wolverine wasn’t weak either, enduring King Kong’s bites and biting back on King Kong’s forelimb.

King Kong let out a low growl of pain, releasing the Wolverine and turning to run.

The Wolverine wasn’t about to let King Kong get away so easily.

It seized the momentum, planning to pin King Kong to the ground, at least inflicting another two wounds.

But the Wolverine couldn’t have imagined that King Kong’s retreat was entirely part of the plan.

As the Wolverine chased King Kong and passed by a large tree, Chen Wen, who was preemptively ambushed in the tree, moved.

In an instant, Chen Wen’s [Night Shadow] and [Tree Assault] triggered.

He very nimbly threw a long spear, instantly piercing the pursuing Wolverine.

The Wolverine let out a cry of pain, and King Kong shivered at the sound of its kind’s dying wails.

But it quickly overcame its fear.

Because Chen Wen jumped down from the tree, slashed the Wolverine’s throat with a hunting knife, and bled it while also killing the sneaking Wolverine.

With the Wolverine now silent.

Chen Wen lifted it by the tail and stood up.

Due to the speed of the long spear’s insertion, this Wolverine didn’t even have time to secrete skunk oil before it was thoroughly killed.

”Well done!”

Chen Wen glanced at King Kong, giving an approving look.

King Kong modestly nodded, saying: ”It’s your plan that’s great. By the way, can we hunt like this all the time from now on?”

Chen Wen thought for a moment, then nodded and said: ”Yes, but the premise is that the prey is either chasing you or is being chased over. There’s quite a bit to it. How about this, once I’m done with the next couple of days, I’ll teach you how to cooperate with me for hunting.”

Upon hearing this, King Kong was a burst of joy.

Such an effortless way of hunting, it truly loved it.

At this time, Chen Wen had King Kong lift its forelimb to check the bite wound.

It wasn’t serious, but Chen Wen decisively gave it a blessing of [Animal Doctor] to help King Kong heal.

After the blessing, not only did King Kong become closer to Chen Wen, but he also got an opportunity to extract a new descriptor.

But this time among the extractions, there were two bad descriptors, with only the first one being a default good descriptor.

[Forest Concealment Step (Purple): When you run in the forest, your movements are more agile and swift, better at jumping to dodge obstacles]

[Remark: Can you keep up with my pace? — Wolf Mink]
