Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 526: Chapter 25: Three Arctic Hares

With an Arctic hare in hand, Chen Wen finally had a smile on his face.

Not to mention anything else, if this Arctic hare can be consumed and digested with high-energy conversion efficiency.

The energy he has lost will definitely be replenished in a big way.

After securing this rabbit, Chen Wen went to check the fourth trap.

Nothing was gained.

Just when Chen Wen thought his good luck had run out.

The fifth trap.

”Twice in a row!”

Chen Wen was delighted as he picked up a frozen rabbit.

This rabbit was also an Arctic hare, and it was even heavier than the first one!

”I’m rich now! I’m rich! This wave of luck is maxed out!”

Chen Wen hummed a tune as he removed the second Arctic hare from the trap and hung it on his long spear.

And the surprises continued.

The sixth trap.

”Hat trick!”

Chen Wen happily picked up his third prey—another Arctic hare.

However, this Arctic hare was slightly smaller.

This time, he’ll definitely replenish a huge amount of energy!

Chen Wen thought as he secured the Arctic hare.

Regarding the seventh trap, although it was disturbed, no prey was caught.

After inspecting it, Chen Wen set the trap again.

Based on the activity trails of these Arctic hares, after replenishing the original seven traps, Chen Wen set up seven more.

A total of fourteen traps, if luck is good, this group of Arctic hares will be completely caught before winter arrives.

...

Chen Wen’s haul can be considered quite bountiful.

After all, other contestants at most find two rabbits each time they check their traps.

”Luck is really good!”

”Lucky king!”

”It seems Chen Wen is in a stable position.”

Several contestant assistants came to Lin Jiawei’s side, discussing fervently.

On the surface, Lin Jiawei remained calm, but inside, he was overjoyed.

Three Arctic hares, if he can eat them all, though it won’t bring back the energy level to pre-game, recovering seventy percent should be no problem.

But just when Lin Jiawei was secretly rejoicing.

News came from Adam’s side as well.

”Adam’s traps also had huge gains! Two fat Arctic hares and one porcupine!”

Upon hearing the sound from the other side, everyone quickly gathered over.

In the footage, Adam, holding a small knife, couldn’t hide his excitement as he processed the dying porcupine.

”A porcupine is far better than a rabbit!”

The guide couldn’t help but say: ”This creature’s body contains a significant amount of fat, the meat is tender, and the energy it holds is far more than a rabbit.”

Everyone nodded continuously.

After all, it’s well-known that rabbits have low fat content.

Previously, there was a contestant who kept eating rabbits, becoming weaker the more he ate, which is telling.

After all, what long-term survival requires is not just protein, fat intake is equally important.

Moreover, this is near the cold Great Slave Lake.

Fat has more uses and is even more important.

Therefore, Adam’s haul is even more impressive than Chen Wen’s.

It’s truly your turn and now mine!

Lin Jiawei shook his head, deeply feeling the difficulty Chen Wen would face trying to win this round.

After all, the contestants this time are elites among elites.

Adam’s trap hunting is far superior to Chen Wen’s!

...

Carrying three Arctic hares, Chen Wen followed his plan and went to the blueberry hill.

He picked blueberries again, filled the black box.

Only then did he return to camp with plenty of food.

”This trip this afternoon, not to mention anything else, brought back quite a lot of food!”

Chen Wen said, the joy on his face never fading.

After gulping down two mouthfuls of hot tea.

He wiped his mouth and poured the newly picked blueberries onto the tent fabric, separating them from yesterday’s batch.

Next, he took up the weapon set and a pot, heading towards the lakeside.

”I plan to process the three rabbits, but since there are definitely black bears around me, and the smell of blood might attract some other creatures, I plan to take the three rabbits to the lakeside to process them.”

In the wild, one must never process raw meat around the shelter.

After all, who knows what the smell of blood will attract.

Maybe it’s another delicious meal, but there’s a larger chance it’s something that can harm humans.

So don’t gamble on what will be attracted.

The safest option is to take raw meat far from the shelter for processing.

Chen Wen kept talking about why he was doing this, soon arriving at the lakeside.

The hunting knife was quite sharp.

Chen Wen swung the knife to cut open the outer fur from the rabbit’s throat wound where it had been bled.

Then he forcefully tore the skin of this rabbit.

With a sound like fabric tearing, the rabbit’s skin and outer fur were brutally ripped off by Chen Wen.

”This is actually a lazy man’s way,”

Chen Wen explained: ”Usually, animal skins can be eaten, and there are some fats near the skin, but I plan to make soup with this rabbit, so I was lazy and just tore off its skin.”

”Additionally, animal pelts can be simply tanned and made into things you need, for example, these two rabbits, I plan to tan their pelts into gloves.”

When coming here, the program demanded clothes requirements based on total weight.

To bring as many clothes as possible, Chen Wen only brought a pair of relatively thin gloves.

So he plans to skin these two larger rabbits, tan the skins, and make gloves.

Tanning, he learned quite a bit from Hua Yun while in Yukon.

Now using it is quite handy for him too.

Chen Wen used the knife to scrape off the fats and residues from the rabbit pelt, then used his axe to chop off the rabbit’s head and four legs.

Then he cracked open the rabbit’s head to remove the brain.

Using the knife’s blade, he tried to evenly spread the brain inside the rabbit pelt.

”The tanning method I use is the Brain Tanning Method, utilizing the brain as a tanning agent to soften the rawhide, then simply pounding it to let the brain seep into the rawhide, leaving it for one to two days, then washing off the brain, and finally stretching the rawhide on a frame, ending with a tanned leather.”

Chen Wen introduced the Brain Tanning Method, a new method he came up with after being taught by Hua Yun and interacting with some workers skilled in tanning.

After applying the brain, Chen Wen gently pounded on the stone with the dull head of the axe.

After about ten minutes, he rolled up the processed rabbit skin and set it aside.

Then, he proceeded to gut the rabbit.

Due to the lack of energy this time, Chen Wen didn’t overlook the offal.

The heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys go without saying.

These cleaner innards were washed by Chen Wen and directly placed in the pot.

The intestines were pulled out, cut open with the hunting knife, and carefully rinsed in water.

The reproductive organs and stink glands were removed by Chen Wen.

Seeing Chen Wen so diligently and carefully, Lin Jiawei was somewhat surprised.

This was the first time he had seen Chen Wen being so meticulous.

Previously, when Chen Wen caught prey in Caprivi, his processing method was quite rough.

He only ate the undeniably good meat, tossed aside all the innards without a second glance.

Seems this time he is really starving.

Lin Jiawei thought this was actually a good thing.

At least Chen Wen could be more stable...right?

...

Of the remaining two rabbits, one was processed in this way, while the other had its fur reserved by Chen Wen.

Only the innards were cleaned.

According to Chen Wen, he plans to roast this rabbit.

The outside fur can be burned off directly, after roasting it and scraping off the charred surface, some fats can be replenished.

Even before the fire is lit, he has clearly arranged the cooking methods for the three rabbits.

Truly a genius!

The second monitor couldn’t help but think.
