Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 544: Chapter 43: North American Grizzly Bear

It seems that what I secured earlier is still quite firm.

Looking at the rock-solid fishing net, Chen Wen couldn’t help but think.

However, even though the net is secure, Chen Wen does not plan to continue using it.

There’s no need to take that risk.

He took the fishing net out of the water and placed it on the shore.

This time, the net was not in the water for long, and there was no catch.

But this can’t be rushed.

After weighing down the net with stones, Chen Wen leisurely headed back to the shelter.

Upon returning.

Chen Wen took off his coat and dried it in front of the campfire.

His coat was custom-made by Lv Guocheng, with excellent waterproof performance.

So, Chen Wen himself was not drenched by the rain.

Only his face was somewhat wet.

This trip wasn’t in vain; at the very least, it confirmed the safety of the net, allowing him to take a good rest.

...

Meanwhile.

On Gaston’s side.

He was urgently rushing to the shelter with a 20 cm long rainbow trout.

But when Gaston returned to the camp, his face immediately showed a dejected expression.

”Damn it, I forgot today’s weather; I didn’t move the fire inside the shelter in advance! The fire’s out!”

As Gaston spoke, he threw the rainbow trout onto the ground as if venting his frustration.

The rainbow trout: What the hell does this have to do with me?!

After throwing down the rainbow trout, work still needed to be done.

After all, it’s never too late to mend the fold.

Gaston found the previously stored firewood, took some that was still relatively dry from the bottom, and placed it inside the shelter.

He took out a fire striker, intending to rekindle the fire while he still had time.

But to his surprise, starting a fire this time was extremely difficult.

”The firewood is too damp!”

Gaston scratched his head, extremely anxious: ”This rain soaked the firewood underneath; we need to dry the wood before we can make a fire!”

With that, Gaston slumped dejectedly on the shelter’s ground.

His mistake this time was quite fatal.

...

Meanwhile, on Shijing Heren’s side.

He had noticed the rain in time, returned to the shelter, and moved the fire inside.

But just as Shijing Heren was bragging on camera about his foresight.

Suddenly, Shijing Heren’s face changed.

He forgot that the fishing net was still in the water!

Looking at the torrential rain outside, Shijing Heren panicked.

Quickly wrapping himself in a waterproof cloth, Shijing Heren dashed out of the shelter towards the place where the net was set.

However, the heavy rain had adverse effects.

As Shijing Heren advanced, his vision was blurred, and the ground underfoot was extremely slippery.

As he neared the net, Shijing Heren misstepped and fell solidly.

Though the pain was intense, Shijing Heren endured it.

He retrieved the net, which had been blown into the water by the storm.

After pulling the net up, Shijing Heren rushed back to the shelter, slipping three or four times on the way.

He finally returned to the shelter safely.

...

A sudden heavy rain had brought every contestant’s survival efforts to a halt.

Everyone stayed inside the shelter, waiting for the rain to end.

However, the contestants’ responses to the rain varied distinctly.

At this time, the staff also had a clear understanding of this season’s contestants.

At present, apart from Gaston and Shijing Heren, every other contestant could have been in contention for the championship in previous seasons.

Especially Chen Wen, who performed exceptionally well.

In this sudden rain, he delivered an almost perfect performance.

Especially when compared with Gaston and Shijing Heren.

...

On Chen Wen’s side.

After resting in the shelter for a while, he remembered something.

”The Wolf Mink and Red Fox have been out for quite a while; why aren’t they back yet?”

Chen Wen muttered, and just then, he heard a series of chaotic and urgent footsteps.

The footsteps grew louder as they approached.

Instinctively, Chen Wen moved aside the items blocking the shelter’s entrance.

As the barrier disappeared, the next moment, two wet little animals squeezed through the small opening Chen Wen had left at the door.

”Ha! I’m freezing!”

The Red Fox shook its body vigorously as soon as it entered, shaking off the water from its soaked fur.

The Wolf Mink did the same.

The two animals caused a little rain inside the shelter.

Seeing their sorry state, Chen Wen curiously asked, ”Where did you go? Why didn’t you come back when it started raining?”

The Wolf Mink opened its mouth and dropped a bone roughly the size of a human adult’s fist.

Only then did it say, ”We went to find food!”

As he picked up the bone, Chen Wen’s expression changed.

It seemed similar to the bone the Wolf Mink brought back last time, most likely from a deer.

Moreover, it was from a large-sized deer.

”Food... Don’t tell me that’s it,”

Chen Wen couldn’t help but say.

As for bones, he had plenty.

He had saved the bones of a black bear, only giving the rib bones to the Wolf Mink as chew toys.

Upon hearing this, the Wolf Mink shook its jaws.

Clearly, carrying the bone all the way had tired out its jaws.

At this point, the Red Fox added, ”The food is still far away, and we need your help to bring it back.”

Need my help?

Chen Wen puzzled, ”Could it be... you hunted a deer?!”

This guess startled him.

Goodness, are these two that formidable?

The Wolf Mink whooped once and said with displeasure, ”Not us; something killed a deer. I went to the forest with it and found the dead deer. It had already been eaten a lot, leaving only the bones.”

Only bones left...

If it’s a leg bone, it could be brought back; the marrow inside is valuable.

It could be used as fat for nutrition or as an ointment for frostbite, prepping for the coming winter.

But the Red Fox interrupted Chen Wen’s thoughts again.

It said, ”Human, our target is not the deer’s bones but something else.”

Chen Wen was taken aback.

The Red Fox continued, ”We discovered the killer of that deer; it’s one of those big black creatures you killed before! We can kill it and eat its meat!”

Chen Wen’s mind froze for a moment.

A moment later, he gasped.

”What?! Are you saying you found a beast that killed a deer and want me to go kill it?”

The Wolf Mink nodded vigorously, ”Exactly! From what I saw, the three of us can handle it with ease!”

The Red Fox chimed in, ”That’s right; we believe it’s easy to deal with it. If we join forces, we can surely kill it!”

Chen Wen’s mouth twitched slightly.

He suddenly had an urge to package and toss the two animals out.

”You... you don’t know what it is, so it seems easy to you, but I do.”

An animal capable of killing a large deer is definitely not a black bear!

Black bears can’t kill large deer and won’t hunt them either.

Thus, only a much larger North American grizzly could possibly take down a large deer.

Chen Wen solemnly said, ”It’s definitely a North American grizzly! It’s entirely different from a black bear; not even in the same league!”

”I can easily kill a black bear, but I definitely can’t kill a North American grizzly! Let’s not talk about this again!”

”This isn’t because I’m afraid of dying; mainly, it’s about you. I can keep my distance with a long spear and ensure my safety, but if a North American grizzly catches you, that would be very troublesome, leading to serious injury or even death!”
