Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 525: Chapter 24: The Bear’s Intercepted Trap

The fact that Chen Wen is adept at using the Pomodoro Technique has already spread among the program team.

Seeing someone skillfully combine time management with wilderness survival, everyone was somewhat surprised.

Moreover, Chen Wen’s work efficiency is visibly high.

Despite having no food.

Chen Wen’s camp is beginning to take shape.

Some staff members who track contestants’ progress have compiled data on Chen Wen’s progress.

As of now.

Chen Wen’s camp construction is far ahead.

He has cleared the location for the shelter and, as planned, dug a large pit.

He has also reserved about ten logs, including the main beam, all processed.

A large pile of stones is stacked around the camp.

A similarly large pile of spare soil.

Once Chen Wen starts construction, these materials are nearly enough to complete three-quarters of the shelter, or even more.

The main reason why the staff cannot precisely describe the progress is that they do not fully understand Chen Wen’s building plans, so they can only estimate it at three-quarters.

In fact, according to Chen Wen’s idea, if only the resting side is constructed, the current materials, except for moss, would be more than sufficient.

...

Due to hunger, Chen Wen’s attention was scattered.

He adopted a method of narrating while working to keep his focus.

Chen Wen is now introducing his Pomodoro Technique.

”You see my work, always doing this for a while then that, it seems unfocused, but actually, it’s a time management method that can enhance work efficiency...”

After introducing the Pomodoro Technique, the second set of Pomodoro time ended, and Chen Wen took a break.

He proceeded with another set, and then went to check and place traps, and picked blueberries with the black box.

After planning, Chen Wen said, ”My method might seem chaotic, but actually it’s very orderly. Various tasks advance simultaneously, and the total progress is no slower than others.”

”If you edit this part into the footage, you can truly compare with other contestants of the same period; their speed in net weaving is definitely not better than mine.”

Upon hearing this, the No. 1 monitor let the guide go see Gaston, who had also started net weaving.

After Chen Wen’s third set of Pomodoro time ended.

The two compared their net weaving efficiency within the same time.

This comparison made the difference instantly clear.

Chen Wen’s total number of nets woven in twenty-five minutes is almost more than Gaston’s total in fifty minutes!

”He really wasn’t boasting!”

No. 1 monitor was taken aback by Chen Wen’s speed.

The guide, after a quick lesson in time management, explained as if a master: ”Efficiency issues, you see Gaston, he keeps doing other things while weaving nets and even daydreams; his efficiency is evidently low, whereas Chen Wen stays focused, hence high efficiency.”

”It’s really unexpected that when time management is combined with survival, efficiency can improve so significantly.”

No. 1 monitor shook his head.

This survival competition left him most shocked not by Chen Wen’s prowess, but by the survival concept he showcased.

Solely in terms of efficiency, it already crushes previous survival methods.

After this season of Wilderness Alone airs, the survival mode driven by time management is definitely going to be a hot topic.

This is a disruptive concept innovation.

Yet it is limited to use in Wilderness Alone.

After all, most survival scenarios are uncontrollable; only in such fixed-location, hardly-changing survival competitions are there fixed work segments.

But this is already enough.

The eighth season of Wilderness Alone will surely see contestants trying this survival concept.

...

For Chen Wen.

After completing the third set of Pomodoro time, he started checking and setting traps, as well as picking blueberries.

This does not require Pomodoro time.

The yield of traps is uncertain, the time to set traps is unknown, and the total number of blueberries picked is equally uncertain.

Not suitable for time management.

At this time, it’s time to return to regular survival.

Chen Wen equipped himself with weapons and a box, and left the camp.

Heading southwest, Chen Wen soon arrived at the place where traps had been set previously.

Yet upon reaching the vicinity, Chen Wen had a premonition of something ominous.

He smelled a faint scent of blood.

After placing the box on the ground, Chen Wen immediately raised his lance and vigilantly paid attention to the surroundings.

As Chen Wen approached the trap’s location, the smell of blood grew stronger.

Finally, at the first trap, Chen Wen saw the scene he least wanted to witness.

”Darn it, like a five-speed electric fan!”

He grimaced and said: ”Two pieces of news, one bad and one good. The good news is the trap worked, catching a... Arctic hare, the bad news is, this Arctic hare was eaten by something unknown, and most of it is gone.”

”Damn!”

Chen Wen cursed helplessly.

This scenario isn’t uncommon in wilderness survival, but Chen Wen hadn’t used traps for hunting many times before, plus, there weren’t many predators in his previous use areas.

This has led to him never having encountered this situation.

But this time, he encountered it.

”Judging by the tracks around, it should be a black bear!”

Based on the footprints and the torn remnants of the Arctic hare, Chen Wen could deduce the identity of the interceptor.

He took a deep breath, and his urge to eliminate this black bear grew stronger.

This black bear wandering near his shelter not only poses a threat to personal safety but also makes hunting more difficult.

If there’s a chance, he must get rid of it!

This would not only solve his hunger problem but also make the surroundings safer.

Having made up his mind, Chen Wen removed the trap.

Since this area became a feeding ground for the black bear, Arctic hares will most likely avoid it, carving out a new animal path.

Thus, the trap needs to be relocated.

After removing the trap, Chen Wen continued his inspection according to the sequence of his previous trap setups.

However, his hopes were not high.

After recalling, last night, the black bear indeed approached from this direction.

Unless after the bear fed, this morning a rabbit got caught in the trap.

Otherwise, this trip is unlikely to yield anything.

Especially after one rabbit died, the likelihood of another passing through here is low, particularly with the powerful scent of blood.

With these thoughts, Chen Wen reached the second trap site.

Unexpectedly, it was empty.

However, upon kneeling to inspect the trap, he discovered that this trap seemed to have been tampered with.

It appears a rabbit passed through here but wasn’t caught.

After thorough investigation, Chen Wen discovered the trap’s trigger mechanism was damaged, causing it not to catch the rabbit’s foot initially.

After a simple adjustment, Chen Wen left this trap in place and headed to the third site.

But upon reaching the third site, the bushes where the trap was set rustled.

Chen Wen was taken aback, and his expression transformed into ecstasy upon seeing the trap’s condition.

Caught!

A living rabbit!

Observing the hair changing color on this rabbit’s body and its wide paws, Chen Wen identified its species—the Arctic hare!

In this region, many rabbits shed, but only Arctic hares have such large paws.

This Arctic hare is still alive.

Chen Wen drew his hunting knife, swiftly severing the Arctic hare’s throat, bleeding it, allowing it to depart without much pain.
