Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 545: Chapter 44: Provocation Once Again

Chen Wen’s words calmed the two animals down.

They exchanged a glance, recalling the scene they had previously witnessed.

The massive creature lurking in the burrow, with just one attack, could indeed take them down.

”So... do we give up?”

The Wolverine said, not quite willing.

It was still eager for a challenge.

The Red Fox also looked somewhat disappointed.

”Give up... not entirely give up.”

Seeing the two animals’ disappointed expressions, Chen Wen didn’t speak definitively.

He hesitated for a moment, then said, ”If there’s an opportunity later, I feel we can attempt to hunt that creature, but right now there’s absolutely no chance.”

Before the grizzly bear goes into hibernation, Chen Wen could not afford to provoke it.

And if it does go into hibernation and they learn where its den is, they could use that information gap to see if the grizzly bear can be trapped.

Hearing this, the two animals’ disappointment eased a bit.

However, the Wolverine’s eyes were cunning, as if pondering something.

Chen Wen told them to go play elsewhere.

The heavy rain continued until nightfall.

And the next day, Chen Wen still let the two animals go out to hunt for food.

Meanwhile, he checked the condition of the shelter.

The fireplace was intact.

The shelter showed no signs of leakage or seepage, though some of the wall’s mud had flaked off within an acceptable range.

”Today, we need to get some moss and stick it onto the moist walls.”

Chen Wen made plans for the day and began working.

His most crucial task at the moment was tidying up the shelter and thoroughly repairing it.

Then he needed to start hunting.

In the morning, Chen Wen went out and set the fishing net into the water.

Then he circled over to the trap location and checked it.

He caught an Arctic Hare.

Next, he looped back, gathering some clay and collecting a large amount of moss.

When noon came, Chen Wen returned to the camp.

After repairing the walls of the shelter, he pasted the moss onto them.

He kept busy until evening, completing the thorough repair of the shelter.

The storage area on the other side also took shape.

During dinner, a whole day’s work made Chen Wen notice that the Red Fox and Wolverine hadn’t returned all day.

Where did they go this time?

Chen Wen wondered in puzzlement.

As he finished dinner and was about to rest.

Suddenly, the Wolverine’s voice came from the forest.

”Human! Human! Something’s wrong!”

Hearing this commotion, Chen Wen had a subtle premonition of trouble.

And as if to confirm this premonition.

The anxious voice of the Red Fox followed: ”Human, run quickly! King Kong Wolverine provoked the grizzly you’re talking about! It’s coming right now!”

The Wolverine insisted: ”I didn’t provoke it; it provoked me, okay!”

”Hmph! If you hadn’t stolen its food and peed on it, we wouldn’t have been found!”

The Red Fox couldn’t help but say.

Listening to the two animals’ conversation.

Chen Wen felt a chill rise from the base of his spine, shooting straight to his head.

He quickly grabbed his weapon and dashed out of the shelter.

He truly wanted to curse.

These two unlucky beings, why couldn’t they provoke something less dangerous than a grizzly bear on the verge of hibernating?

Let’s see what the situation is first.

Just as Chen Wen was thinking, a dark shadow leaped out of the forest, followed by a reddish shadow.

It was the Wolverine and the Red Fox.

Chen Wen took a quick look at the two animals’ condition, relieved they weren’t injured.

That’s at least some good news.

But the grizzly bear behind them...

Chen Wen quickly gave the Wolverine a light kick: ”Don’t squeeze into the shelter. Climb the tree!”

The Wolverine adjusted its posture mid-air, landing steadily.

It casually found a tree and swiftly climbed up.

Chen Wen placed the Red Fox on his shoulder and said, ”Stay with me and tell me exactly what happened.”

The Red Fox replied, ”We followed your instructions today to look for food, and we ended up encountering the grizzly bear you mentioned again.”

”I remembered what you said and didn’t provoke it, but the Wolverine smelled the blood scent on that guy and figured it must have killed a prey, so it wanted to lead me to find it.”

”We circled near the grizzly bear’s lair and found a deer that had been killed. We ate a lot of meat there. I felt we spent a bit too long eating and told the Wolverine to leave, but when leaving, the Wolverine peed on the deer.”

”We hadn’t been gone long before hearing the grizzly bear’s roar. It seemed to remember our scent and chased after us. That’s the long and short of it.”

Chen Wen felt his head spin.

What bad luck brought such a peculiar Wolverine into my life!

Eats secretly yet leaves behind a puddle of urine on top of it all.

North American grizzlies are different from black bears; near Great Slave Lake, they are apex predators with no natural enemy.

That’s why such apex predators dare to leave a kill and nonchalantly go about other business.

But that doesn’t mean they don’t value their prey, especially at such a sensitive time.

Every piece of food is greatly valued by North American grizzlies.

The Wolverine’s actions were even worse than peeing on a bear’s head.

Just as Chen Wen was about to climb a tree with the Red Fox to hide.

In the distance, a mix of growls and rapidly approaching heavy footsteps.

The North American grizzly is here!

Now it’s a bit late to climb a tree, the bear had already spotted them.

North American grizzlies are the bosses around here, their sense of smell, sight, and hearing are all top-notch.

Unlike the near-blind black bears.

Chen Wen took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down and think of a solution.

He swiftly went into the shelter, grabbing a piece of firewood with his left hand and lighting it in the fireplace.

After lighting the firewood, Chen Wen quickly exited the shelter with the flame in his grasp.

His right hand was still holding the long spear.

As the North American grizzly drew closer, its pace slowed.

As an apex predator, it not only possessed top-notch physical attributes but top-notch intelligence too.

An unfamiliar creature wielding fire, such as Chen Wen, was something the bear hadn’t seen before.

Paired with the glistening long spear, the North American grizzly naturally slowed its approach.

Planning to assess Chen Wen before taking any action.

Seeing the bear slow down, Chen Wen also breathed a sigh of relief.

As long as it doesn’t attack on sight, there’s room to maneuver.

He closely examined the North American grizzly.

Smaller than the old grizzly he encountered last time, but its muscles looked even stronger.

Clearly, this was a grizzly in its prime.

Its combat effectiveness would be higher than that of the old grizzly he had previously met!

Also, its temperament was more ferocious than the older grizzly’s!

Furthermore, this wasn’t some special animal, just a very ordinary beast.

Chen Wen took a deep breath, comparing his own strength to the bear’s.

One-on-one on the ground, he wasn’t an opponent.

In a drawn-out duel of skills, he should be able to easily take down this North American grizzly.

Therefore, after some quick thinking.

Chen Wen decided to first push this North American grizzly back and then make plans later.

With his plan set, he immediately acted.

The first step was [Intimidation].

Chen Wen stared into the grizzly’s small eyes, sending a wave of hostility its way.

The bear bared its teeth and emitted a series of agitated growls.

Effective, but not by much.

Chen Wen simply raised his left hand holding the flaming bundle, advancing toward the bear while shouting.

This time it worked well.

Faced with the flames and Chen Wen’s roars, the North American grizzly gradually showed signs of retreating.
