Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 516: Chapter 15: Abandoned Campground

As Greg marveled, Chen Wen also sprang into action.

He explored forward in the direction where he found rabbit tracks.

Trying to find a rabbit’s nest.

But after searching for half the day, he still hadn’t found it.

It seemed that the rabbits came in this direction to feed.

Looking at the increasing number of tracks on the ground, Chen Wen thought.

If he couldn’t find the rabbit’s nest, that meant it wasn’t time to eat rabbits yet.

Chen Wen did not turn back to search elsewhere but continued forward.

After walking for about half an hour, Chen Wen discovered many animal tracks.

Smaller ones like rabbits and wolverines, larger ones like black bears.

The animal resources around here were quite abundant.

Chen Wen thought, planning to walk forward for another ten minutes or so before stopping.

Exploring was not the most urgent task right now; his energy should be saved for building a shelter.

As he was thinking this, with the help of his [Ultimate Vision].

Something white caught Chen Wen’s attention under the cover of the forest ahead.

There was no snow now, could it be a white-furred animal?

Chen Wen immediately became excited.

He subtly adjusted his direction and walked toward the white thing.

About two minutes later, after seeing clearly what it was, Chen Wen’s expression changed.

He struck it big!

He instinctively quickened his pace, bringing those things into view of the camera.

”My heavens! What kind of amazing luck is this?”

”Wang Defa! This contestant is really going to take off!”

The monitor and the guide couldn’t help but shout out.

Hearing the commotion, many contestant assistants curiously came over.

After seeing clearly what was in front of Chen Wen, they were all stunned.

...

”This is an abandoned campsite!”

Chen Wen affirmed as he arrived in front of the white thing.

It was a tent but severely damaged.

”It should’ve been left by some hikers. Look, judging by the size of this campsite, it’s likely a hiker group.”

Chen Wen said, using a long spear to poke at the tent, checking the situation inside.

He didn’t want to come face-to-face with a Canadian citizen.

Luckily, there was nothing inside.

”Looks like this tent might have been abandoned here after it got damaged.”

Chen Wen glanced over the condition of the tent and said, ”What a shame, the tent is as worn as if it were made before World War II, there aren’t many usable parts, and the metal frame has been taken away.”

After quickly folding the tent, Chen Wen said, ”This thing could be used for building a house or as a carpet, let’s take it back.”

”But compared to the tent, the stuff around here is actually quite nice.”

Chen Wen’s eyes scanned the trash pile beside him and quickly spotted some useful items.

And they were very useful indeed!

Chen Wen quickly walked a couple of steps over to the trash pile.

”Plastic bottles, wow, this is valuable stuff!”

Chen Wen picked up two plastic beverage bottles in succession.

Judging by the illustrations, it seemed to be orange juice.

These hikers didn’t appear very professional, more like amateurs, as they brought along pretty amateurish things.

But precisely because of these non-professional items, Chen Wen had a substantial haul.

A 600ml orange juice bottle and a 4-liter large water bottle.

What a great score!

Chen Wen’s mouth curled back so much it was close to reaching his ears.

However, the third bottle was a bit of a disappointment for Chen Wen.

It was also a 4-liter large bottle but was too damaged to be of any use.

”What a pity!”

Chen Wen’s voice was filled with regret.

But picking up one small and one large bottle was already quite good!

Packed up the bottles, Chen Wen continued sifting through the trash pile.

Setting aside those useless plastic wrappers, Chen Wen discovered good stuff again.

”A can of luncheon meat, this one is fish.”

After picking up the two cans, Chen Wen couldn’t hold back a smile.

Two cans, one as a bowl, the other as an oil tank.

Perfect!

Chen Wen had already found job placements for the two cans in his mind.

”Hehehehehe...”

Accompanied by silly laughter, Chen Wen dumped the trash out of the cans and packed them away.

Behind the screen, seeing this scene, Lin Jiawei couldn’t hold back anymore.

He excitedly took out his phone to record the situation.

Meanwhile, the expressions of other contestant assistants were full of envy.

What kind of unbelievable luck is this!

Finding an abandoned camp in the forest is equivalent to several more props!

And this is just the first day!

Not even pretending anymore, right?

Though envious, they didn’t say much but continued watching.

...

Still relishing in the discovery, Chen Wen left the trash pile and continued searching around.

This camp had been abandoned for over half a year, maybe there were other useful things around.

With this in mind, Chen Wen quickly found a second trash pile behind a tree.

But there wasn’t much of use here.

After rummaging for a while, Chen Wen only found two empty cigarette boxes.

After opening them, there were no cigarettes inside.

Chen Wen sighed with regret.

He didn’t smoke, but tobacco makes great tinder.

If used with bird nests, the success rate of starting a fire could rise by 20-30%.

But he still packed the cigarette boxes.

Continued searching.

Soon, he found a pile of small mounds not far away.

They seemed like castles built by children but had become ruins through years of weathering.

Chen Wen shook his head and kicked the ruins over.

However, after kicking it down, something in front of him caught Chen Wen’s attention.

”No way, there’s something buried here!”

Chen Wen exclaimed in surprise.

He saw a hint of color amidst the layers of sand.

After clearing away the sand, Chen Wen bent down and dug out the item.

”A candy box, wow, it’s quite big. Thanks to the kid who left this candy box here, maybe it was kids.”

Chen Wen hugged the candy box, feeling even happier than its original owner might have.

This candy box could totally be used as a bowl, maybe even a pot.

Chen Wen opened the lid, and in the next moment, he shivered slightly.

There was still something inside the candy box!

Oh my goodness!

Chen Wen incredulously took out the items inside.

”A flashlight! Damn! Cough cough, excuse me.”

Chen Wen coughed awkwardly.

He swore.

Really couldn’t help it, these contents were too overwhelming!

Though Chen Wen had the [Ultimate Vision] to see at night, the night vision ability it provided was only relative to humans, not particularly strong.

But if the flashlight worked, that would dramatically improve things for Chen Wen!

He could roam freely at night.

That equates to having several more hours than others each day!

But to Chen Wen’s disappointment, the flashlight wouldn’t work.

After tinkering for a few minutes, he found that although everything was there, it just wouldn’t light up.

”Aw man! What a waste that it doesn’t work!”

Chen Wen clicked his tongue in disappointment.

While the other contestant assistants behind the screen breathed a sigh of relief.

Luckily, it couldn’t be used!

This was everyone’s thought.

If it had worked, Chen Wen, who was already strong, would have become unbeatable!

But as it was, Chen Wen’s haul made them quite envious and jealous.

If the other contestants knew about these finds, their jealousy wouldn’t be much lessened.

In the end, Chen Wen didn’t find more useful items.

But this trip’s gains were still very significant.

Besides finding animal trails and bird nests, unexpectedly discovering such a camp and locating numerous items within it was rewarding.

There was even a sizeable candy box and a flashlight that didn’t work.

Returning fully laden!
