Chapter 529: Chapter 28: The Black Bear Strikes Again

”If there was clay, using it directly would be more efficient.”

Chen Wen said as he continued working.

He used a shovel to spread the mixed soil onto the stone, then placed another stone on top, just like building a wall, letting the soil fill the gaps between the stones.

He kept doing this until the first tomato timer ended.

Chen Wen put down his work and turned to weave a net.

He wove the net quickly, and at this pace, he could probably finish the thorn net by the sixth or seventh day.

The second tomato timer also ended quickly.

According to the plan, Chen Wen used the third tomato timer for cutting trees.

Holding a saw and an ax, Chen Wen had become a major threat to this forest.

In about ten minutes, he could chop down a big tree.

”In our Hua Country, there’s a cartoon where a logger named Bald Qiang has a bear causing trouble around him while he chops down trees, though it’s a brown bear.”

Chen Wen sawed the tree while chatting with the camera, ”Now you could say I’m Bald Wen, although I do still have hair. Even though there are black bears around, they don’t dare to cause trouble.”

”After all, most characters in funny cartoons don’t die, but in reality, black bears aren’t invincible. If it dares to show up, my long spear will show it the might of industrial power!”

For the black bear that frequently harassed him and even ate his prey.

Chen Wen’s intent to kill and patience were now at a breaking point.

If this black bear did anything else to anger him, he would definitely drop what he’s doing and spend a day, or even longer, hunting this black bear.

No rest until one dies!

Soon, the fourth tomato timer began.

Chen Wen continued building the house.

By noon.

He stopped his work and started cooking.

Today’s lunch was going to be barbecue.

Taking down the unplucked rabbit from the tree, Chen Wen placed it over the campfire to roast.

Meanwhile, he went to the lake to fetch water, placing it on the stove to boil.

The fur-covered Arctic hare was singed by the flames, emitting a charred smell.

But Chen Wen wasn’t in a hurry.

Once the outer fur was burnt into a black solid.

He finally took the rabbit down.

Using a sharp hunting knife, Chen Wen scraped off all the black solid material, using an ax for what couldn’t be scraped off.

After several minutes, a skinned rabbit was in Chen Wen’s hands.

Up next, roasting!

Feeling invigorated, Chen Wen skewered the rabbit with two sticks, spread it open, and positioned it near the campfire to roast.

Taking advantage of this time, he crushed some salt with the hunting knife, dissolved it in water inside a can.

Then, Chen Wen dipped his clean hands in the saltwater and dripped it over the rabbit.

After the water evaporated, the salt stayed on the rabbit.

To make the rabbit cook faster, Chen Wen used the hunting knife to score the rabbit’s skin.

In these scored areas, Chen Wen intentionally dripped extra saltwater.

Roasting the rabbit took quite some time.

It wasn’t until afternoon that Chen Wen managed to thoroughly cook the whole rabbit.

Though it didn’t sizzle with oil and appeared rather black.

But this roasted rabbit increased Chen Wen’s appetite greatly.

He took the roasted rabbit from the campfire, set it aside to cool, then scooped a can of hot water with the can still salty from the saltwater.

Gulping down the mildly salty water.

To cleanse his palate.

After cleansing his palate, Chen Wen began to enjoy his lunch.

...

Meanwhile.

In the depths of the forest, the aroma of the roasted rabbit wafted through the wind, reaching the burrow at the roots of a large tree.

As the scent of the barbecue grew stronger, a robust black bear emerged slowly.

It was the very same black bear that repeatedly harassed Chen Wen.

After emerging, the black bear immediately sniffed the air.

Determining the source of the aroma.

Soon, it figured it out.

The source of the aroma was the camp it had visited before.

Where a very terrifying and peculiar two-legged creature resided!

The black bear moved slowly along the path it had traveled for years.

Even though the energy it prepared for hibernation was nearly sufficient, the black bear remained greedy.

It wanted to prepare more energy to cope with this particularly cold winter.

The black bear continued, with the scent growing stronger.

Finally, an irresistible force let its appetite overcome its rationality.

The desire for food overcame its fear of that bipedal being.

The black bear roared.

And moved out!

...

On Chen Wen’s side.

A whole roast rabbit had been devoured completely, not even leaving small bits of meat on the bones.

After finishing the rabbit, he took a sip of hot tea.

”Ah, so satisfying!”

Gently patting his bulging stomach, Chen Wen felt extremely satisfied.

With the two rabbits consumed last night and today, his energy was fully replenished.

His strength returned to its peak!

After eating the rabbit, he planned to lie on the ground to rest for a while.

Basking in the sun, utilizing the trait [Warm Sunlight] to enhance energy conversion efficiency.

To let his body gain more energy.

But as the trees desired stillness, and the wind was restless, as he wanted to sleep and the bear wouldn’t let him.

Just as Chen Wen squinted his eyes to rest, he suddenly sensed something was off.

The previously noisy surroundings turned quiet.

It’s important to know that in this forest.

There are many wild animals, and Chen Wen often heard sounds of wild beasts nearby.

Like bird calls, sounds and fights of small animals, and the roars of carnivores.

Though these sounds weren’t always audible.

Every once in a while, they’d echo in Chen Wen’s enhanced hearing range, reminding him that he was in an extremely dangerous wilderness.

But at this moment, the quiet lasted too long.

Chen Wen opened his eyes, and immediately grabbed his long spear and ax, ”Something’s wrong around here, it’s too quiet.”

Hearing Chen Wen’s words, monitor two paused for a moment.

He instinctively amplified the sound, listening closely to the surroundings.

It was indeed very quiet.

But what’s wrong with that?

The monitor thought, unconsciously frowning.

But at that moment, Chen Wen suddenly stood up, quickly finding a rather sturdy birch tree.

In no time, he climbed up.

This sudden movement left everyone puzzled.

What’s going on?

Did Chen Wen see or hear something?

While everyone was puzzled.

From the tree, Chen Wen hid himself.

The reason he climbed the tree was that he heard some unusual noises.

Those were the gradually approaching heavy footsteps.

It had to be a predator that arrived!

Thinking of this, Chen Wen immediately climbed the tree.

Not because he feared the intruder, but because he wanted to attempt hunting this invading animal.

[Tree Strike] activated.

The scent emanating from Chen Wen gradually diminished, and coupled with the high winds, the little scent that did escape was wafted away.

Thus, the scent Chen Wen left near the ground was disappearing.

Moreover, the hidden effect of [Night Shadow] kicked in, making it hard to detect him.

Chen Wen’s figure slowly faded.

Furthermore, he waved his hands to direct the drone higher up.

To prevent the sound of the drone from alerting the approaching animal.

All preparations in place, Chen Wen laid in ambush.

A life-stealing trap silently set.

Just five seconds after the drone ascended.

A black bear appeared within the drone’s view.

Through the gaps between the branches, monitor two and the guide clearly saw the approaching black bear.

The black bear’s movements seemed clumsy but were actually very cautious.

Every so often, it would carefully lift its head, sniffing the air.

Both to discern direction and to find Chen Wen’s location.

Upon realizing the terrifying biped’s scent was fading, the black bear slowly started to move quicker.

Unaware, Chen Wen perched in the tree, suppressing the negative effect of [Territorial Consciousness], quietly waiting for the black bear to approach.
