System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Established plans don’t prevent unexpected events from arriving, but most unexpected events don’t affect established plans.

Although Lu Cheng hadn’t rested well, he slipped away as soon as he finished his rounds.

After Lu Cheng said goodbye, Xiao Zhaoxi nodded and said, ”If you have things to do, go ahead. But don’t forget your night shift in the ER tonight.”

”Rest assured, Director Xiao, I’ll definitely be there on time,” Lu Cheng promised Xiao Zhaoxi.

Once outside, Lu Cheng got in the car and used the voice command system to call Mu Nanshu: ”Book Bag, are you and Brother Xibei ready?”

Actually, Zhang Xibei is younger than Lu Cheng. Because Ni Xixin is Mu Nanshu’s junior, Zhang Xibei is Ni Xixin’s classmate, but Zhang Xibei looks older and his abilities are relatively special, so Lu Cheng always calls him that.

”We plan to go directly to the high-speed rail station to pick someone up, so just drive there directly. We’ll talk when we meet.”

”According to Brother Xibei, we might have a chance to recruit Ni Xixin this time,” Mu Nanshu’s sweet voice came through the phone.

However, before Mu Nanshu finished speaking, Zhang Xibei’s steady voice also came through: ”Dr. Mu, it’s just a chance, not certain.”

”Just having a chance is good, it’s better than having no chance at all.”

After responding to Zhang Xibei, Mu Nanshu asked Lu Cheng, ”Where do we eat for lunch? Still at Countryside? How about calling the boss there to make a reservation?”

Zhang Xibei proactively suggested, ”Ni Xixin prefers spicy food, I think we can go to Haidilao.”

Mu Nanshu’s eyes lit up, ”Alright, then we don’t need a reservation.”

Ni Xixin is a typical petite person, with relatively uncommon but standard fishtail-shaped eyes, clear double eyelid folds, and full under-eye bags.

The slightly unfortunate thing is her skin tone is darker, coupled with thin hair, making it easy for people to overlook her actual looks at first glance.

With straight eyebrows and a diamond-shaped face, she has a crisp voice: ”Senior Sister Mu.”

”Zhang Xibei.”

Zhang Xibei shook hands with Ni Xixin and voluntarily introduced himself, ”This is Brother Lu Cheng, as mentioned when we chatted.”

”Our team’s other two members are still working on some small experiments, we’ll see them when we go for lunch.”

Lu Cheng said, ”Hello Teacher Ni.”

Ni Xixin said, ”Brother Lu, just follow Sister Mu and call me Xiao Ni for now, I won’t call you brother-in-law yet.”

Lu Cheng replied, ”Actually, you could, but… you must be tired from the journey, let’s go have lunch first, and after that, settle in at the hotel.”

”In the afternoon, we’ll take Teacher Ni to visit our project group and check out our humble office.”

Ni Xixin looked at Mu Nanshu, ”Sister Mu, you’re so humble, Brother Lu.”

Mu Nanshu laughed, ”That’s because he’s not familiar with you yet, you’ll feel otherwise later.”

While speaking, Mu Nanshu checked her phone and said, ”Lu Cheng, Xie Yuan’an said she’s already on her way, let’s go too. We’ll talk over lunch.”

”How do we commute?”

”I’ll take people there, you bring them back?” Lu Cheng suggested.

...

Sitting around a large booth at Haidilao, six people fit comfortably without feeling crowded.

While letting the ladies order, Zhang Xibei and Dai Linfang completed their self-introductions.

Interestingly, it seemed Xie Yuan’an had some distaste toward Dai Linfang, which is why she sat between Ni Xixin and Xie Yuan’an.

Lu Cheng sat next to Mu Nanshu, Ni Xixin next to Zhang Xibei, leaving Dai Linfang isolated at the furthest corner, directly opposite Lu Cheng.

After Mu Nanshu finished ordering, she handed the menu tablet to Lu Cheng, ”Do you want to add anything?”

”What you chose is fine, we can add more if it’s not enough, mainly depending on Teacher Ni’s preference.”

Ni Xixin playfully said, ”Brother Lu, you’re still treating me like an outsider? Too much, really.”

Lu Cheng replied, ”I’m worried that if I’m not polite, you’ll run off, and we won’t be able to do even the most basic hosting, let alone follow-ups.”

”Besides, I have to work tonight, I can’t host properly this evening.”

Dai Linfang took the opportunity to speak, ”Don’t worry, Brother Lu, I have time. I’ll handle the arrangements.”

As soon as Dai Linfang opened his mouth, Xie Yuan’an bluntly said, ”What makes you think it’s your business here?”

Dai Linfang glared at Xie Yuan’an, his initially pleasant face twisted slightly, ”Dr. Xie, I genuinely don’t understand your hostility towards me.”

”You tell me?” Xie Yuan’an glanced at Dai Linfang.

”I don’t want your messy personal issues to enter our project group.”

”Either confess or we just won’t interact, and don’t come poking around our hand surgery lab.”

Lu Cheng reached out to interrupt, ”Alright, alright, Xie Yuan’an, what are you doing? Conducting an inquiry?”

”Teacher Ni, sorry you have to witness this.”

However, Xie Yuan’an got aggravated, ”It’s true, people with bad character joining the project group will only make the atmosphere chaotic.”

”Don’t you ever watch the news?”

This comment stopped Lu Cheng, ”News? What news?”

Upon hearing this, Dai Linfang immediately banged the table, ”You call that forum stuff news?”

”No?” Dai Linfang’s eyes widened, ”How did you know about our school forum stuff?”

Of course, Xie Yuan’an wouldn’t reveal their sources, ”That doesn’t concern you.”

”Fine, fine, I won’t press. Later I’ll call my cousin and have her come and explain with my nephew, okay!”

”I was wondering what was up, with you intentionally giving me attitude here.” Dai Linfang rolled his eyes, almost to his upper lids.
