System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

The emergency department and the scheduled cases of specialized departments are treated differently. The treatment quality of a specialized department may require a comprehensive quantitative index.

The reputation of patients and their families can also be falsified by other means.

The data in the emergency department’s resuscitation room is both raw and real.

Life and death are easy to statistical, as are the causes of death.

...

Lu Cheng was meticulously completing the discharge records for his duty day and the routine medical records for incoming patients, striving to leave no gaps.

The hospital is a unique entity with frequent inspections, but generally, if a senior leader comes for an inspection, the records for the month must be adequately prepared.

Of course, if the inspection is not strict, it’s sufficient to manage the on-shelf records.

In other words, discharge records must be archived immediately; once they enter the archive room, they are no longer subject to inspection.

Leaders don’t habitually check records in the archive room; most of the time, this is how things operate.

This time, the processing mode for everyone was the same.

Xiao Zhaoxi, Tian Zhiliang, and other associate chief physicians, though not on duty, were not idle.

Apart from the discharge records, the emergency department has handwritten death discussion records, whole hospital consultation discussion records, difficult case discussion records, monthly rounds records that require Tian Zhiliang and other associate chief physicians to fill in the gaps.

Hence, the office naturally transformed into a scene of flying papers, with drinks, coffee, and late-night snacks all laid out.

Xiao Zhaoxi also joined everyone in burning the midnight oil: ”For all the records, the three-level signature and three-level rounds must be completely presented and printed out for me to sign promptly.”

”Tian Zhiliang, Dai Jinzhong, you two are the teaching secretaries, responsible for the training and management of interns, so the teaching records must also be completed.”

”And...”

The time was around two o’clock. After several hours of battle, the busy work of the surgical team was finally coming to an end.

Deng Duanniu stood up, twisting his waist and stretching his joints, rubbing his face jokingly: ”Director Zhu, there’s a fairy in our group. I think life might not be easy from now on.”

Zhu Yuanzhou, exhausted from supplementing handwritten records: ”I’ve been supplementing for nearly five months. The last time I did this was in July last year.”

”Xiao Lu, do you have a troublesome nature?”

Lu Cheng joined in the joke: ”Director Zhu, everyone used to say so. When I was a resident, the nurses and interns in the department were particularly docile.”

”It might be possible...”

Zhu Yuanzhou nodded and suddenly asked: ”Deng Duanniu, are you done? Well, then come here and help me write this.”

Deng Duanniu didn’t even have time for a bathroom escape before being dragged into service by Zhu Yuanzhou.

Associate chiefs and leaders have such privileges.

As long as you’re not entirely idle, you can instruct subordinates without being resented.

After a while, Lu Cheng was also roped in to fill in some handwritten records.

There is strength in numbers, and after another half hour, most of the surgical team had settled into various lounges to sleep.

After all, surgery doesn’t prioritize medical records that much; even if there is a surprise inspection, they handle it casually. In contrast, I heard the internal medicine team was busy until five o’clock in the morning.

...

January 26, Tuesday, the seventeenth day of the twelfth lunar month. Lu Cheng was originally only required to enter the resuscitation room for the night shift today.

But in the morning, Lu Cheng stayed in the department, and by around nine o’clock, he was woken up by Xiao Zhaoxi and others.

After roughly washing up, Lu Cheng saw that, sure enough, the hospital’s administrative units, led by the leadership, came down to the emergency department.

It was said that the inspection of the emergency department this time was just a pretext, and since the leaders from the Health and Health Commission were already here, they decided to visit several other departments as well.

After all, they only need to check materials and medical records, which they do quickly.

So, the departments working overtime with Lu Cheng and others last night were quite a few.

In the doctor’s office, Lu Cheng and the others were either helping with medical orders, on duty, or changing medications as usual.

Around ten o’clock in the morning, the inspection team finally arrived at the emergency department!

Xiao Zhaoxi and the head nurse went forward to greet them with smiles.

Politely starting to call out: ”Director Chen, Dean Jia, Dean Yao, Director Chen, welcome, and thank you for your efforts.”

The leaders inspect your work to encourage your progress!

The leader of the group was Chen Xiuhua, the office director of the Medical Administration and Management Department of the State Health and Health Commission, who happened to know Xiao Zhaoxi: ”Director Xiao, we received the orders from above to conduct a routine inspection.”

”After all, medical quality is the most basic and important task!”

”Let’s not talk about anything else; let’s go through the process first,” Chen Xiuhua said bluntly.

With a glance from Xiao Zhaoxi, Lu Cheng and others quickly categorized the records and materials on the table.

There were those from internal medicine and those from surgery.

Chen Xiuhua and the others routinely examined the medical records.

This time, accompanying Chen Xiuhua were two deputy deans from the hospital, Director Chen Zhong of the Medical Affairs Department, Deputy Director Peng Jianfei, and Director Tan Hongdong of the Quality Control Department.

Although Chen Xiuhua and the others were engaged in administration, having examined many medical records, they understood the routines and could spot discrepancies.

Of course, the main force was Director Tan Hongdong of the hospital’s Quality Control Department.

Tan Hongdong did not shield surgery, immediately pointing out: ”Director Xiao, you come from internal medicine, and although you’re currently in surgery, these records still need to adhere to standards.”
