System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Mu Nanshu was quite good at giving emotional value: ”Shouldn’t it be the third generation?”

”Alright, alright, the third generation,” Lu Cheng said with a laugh. After all, he did say Mu Nanshu was a little rich lady.

...

In the evening, Dai Linfang even sent Lu Cheng a message asking if he wanted to have a late-night snack together. Even if no one else came, Lu Cheng could go alone.

After Lu Cheng and Mu Nanshu dropped Xie Yuan’an off at her car, they headed back.

They were just about to go up to Mu Nanshu’s parents’ apartment.

He remembered they were supposed to come for dinner today, as discussed when they left yesterday.

Standing in the elevator, Lu Cheng typed a message: ”Brother Dai, it might not be convenient today.”

”Brother Lu, is it not convenient for everyone?” Dai Linfang asked.

”Isn’t anyone free?”

When Dai Linfang asked, Lu Cheng suddenly became alert and wondered if he was being tricked by Dai Linfang.

He and Mu Nanshu had plans, Professor Chen Song also had plans, and Professor Tong Yuan’an had already taken people to Feng County.

If anyone was free, it would be Professor Chen Song’s students or Xie Yuan’an.

Could it be that Dai Linfang had already asked Professor Chen Song’s students about his identity, and today he was deliberately putting on a show for him?

”Brother Dai, we’re not free, and I don’t dare to ask the other teachers,” Lu Cheng said.

”Alright, I’ll contact them myself then,” Dai Linfang replied.

Lu Cheng: ”???”

Dai Linfang said: ”Brother Lu, to be honest, I’m younger than you, but I started school early, so I graduated quite early too.”

”What I told you is the truth; my current situation and experiences are real. But there’s one more reason I didn’t tell you.”

”But you’ll understand soon.”

When Lu Cheng heard this, he asked, ”Nanshu, when did Xie Yuan’an graduate?”

”The year before last.”

”She’s one year ahead of me, so the year before last. Why?” confirmed Mu Nanshu.

Lu Cheng roughly guessed.

Dai Linfang had mentioned that he was younger than Lu Cheng, but had already graduated for two years, the same cohort as Xie Yuan’an.

Although Lu Cheng didn’t know why Dai Linfang knew Xie Yuan’an, before Dai Linfang sought out Lu Cheng, he surely knew some things about Lu Cheng’s research group.

So today, while it seemed like Lu Cheng was acting, Dai Linfang was acting too.

”There’s a good show to watch,” Lu Cheng replied.

”Don’t keep me in suspense,” Mu Nanshu replied.

”It’s just a guess for now. Didn’t I tell you that our research group was going to have a PhD candidate joining?”

”If I’m not mistaken, he should know Xie Yuan’an.”

”They might have even met,” Lu Cheng said.

Mu Nanshu said, ”Isn’t that quite a coincidence?”

”If everything is a coincidence, it’s too much of a coincidence; if someone planned it, then it may not be a coincidence.”

”This Dr. Dai claims to be quite well-connected, just unlucky.”

”Forget it, let’s not talk about it,” Lu Cheng said as the elevator doors opened. Lu Cheng and Mu Nanshu got out and knocked on the door.

When Mu Leng opened the door, Lu Cheng said, ”Uncle and Aunt, I’m sorry. A distinguished guest suddenly arrived today; it’s Xie Yuan’an’s father.”

”So we have to change plans and eat out.”

Mu Leng replied, ”Xie Yuan’an’s father is a professor at Union Hospital. If he came and you didn’t go to host, that would be improper.”

”Have you arranged accommodations?”

Lu Cheng said, ”Professor Xie has returned to Han City.”

”Gone already? This must have been an urgent matter.”

”Have you eaten enough? If not, we can reheat the dishes; there are still a couple of small pots...”

...

Lu Cheng’s mood wasn’t great, as the phone rang just as he was about to get things done, and it happened to be Xiao Zhaoxi calling.

Mu Nanshu quickly snuck under the covers, leaving only her eyes exposed, covering her nose, fearing it might be a video call.

Lu Cheng answered the call politely: ”Director Xiao. You’re not resting yet?”

Xiao Zhaoxi’s voice was urgent: ”I just got a call from a leadership member of the Health and Family Planning Commission. They said while collecting data, they noticed a significant fluctuation in the mortality rate in the hospital’s emergency department.”

”They want to come for an inspection. And they’ll be here tomorrow. We all need to produce a research report.”

”I immediately started organizing with the people on duty in the department.”

”A corresponding factor is something you worked on.”

Lu Cheng’s mouth twitched slightly: ”...”

”Director Xiao, I’ll come over right away!”

Although Xiao Zhaoxi didn’t make it explicit, he indirectly pointed a finger at him, implying everything without saying it directly.

The fluctuation in the average mortality rate in a hospital’s emergency department is no small matter.

Mortality rate ties more to ratios than to the number of cases received.

Because the mortality rate has a small base, even minor changes can cause significant fluctuations.

”You need to come. We conducted a sub-group analysis of both internal and surgical department data and found that the mortality rate was notably lower during your shifts.”

”This needs to be explained.”

”Of course, this is certainly a good thing.”

While a butterfly’s wings may not cause a tornado, they can cause a breeze.

With Lu Cheng’s hemostasis skills, often regarded as the emergency department’s most potent tool, the foundational skill of two basic skills.

If it were useless, predecessors wouldn’t have made it a foundational piece for emergency surgery.

After hanging up the phone, Mu Nanshu timidly covered her neck with the quilt and blinked her eyelashes: ”Do you have to work overtime?”
