System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”There’s also Brother Zhang Xibei, who might run off at any moment. Plus, we have some temporary members from outside; they could leave anytime,” Lu Cheng introduced the general situation of his project group.

”So, does that make me an original shareholder?” Dai Linfang didn’t expect Lu Cheng to be so modest.

His teacher still cared for him and showed him a bright path.

No, it was Huang Gengwen, his benefactor, who showed him the way, urging him to use Lu Cheng as a breakthrough at all costs and without restraint.

Essentially, he explained the core solution but didn’t tell Dai Linfang that Lu Cheng was the main host of the project.

”Brother Dai, weren’t you planning to leave too?” Lu Cheng said.

”Well, I’m still evaluating. Let’s be realistic here.”

”My joining fee, I’ll send it to you in a rather special form, alright?” Dai Linfang was unexpectedly happy, though he felt the world was a bit absurd.

Lu Cheng, a junior attending physician in the emergency department, had orchestrated such an elaborate scheme.

”Brother Dai, let’s take it slow with these matters first.”

”We need to lay out some unpleasant truths beforehand, like our project group is small, can’t afford idlers, and doesn’t offer any salary,” Lu Cheng said.

”If I wanted a salary, why would I come to you? Some things can’t be replaced by a salary, you know?” Dai Linfang said.

”Alright, there are things I’m preparing for free.”

”No matter what, I’ll go back and prepare well for sure.”

Lu Cheng said, ”Brother Dai, later I’ll have someone contact you.”

Lu Cheng hadn’t quite figured out Dai Linfang’s personality, as Mu Nanshu wasn’t suited for such a routine, but Zhang Tiesheng definitely was.

”Okay, sure, I’m up for it!” Dai Linfang immediately nodded.

After exchanging contact details with Dai Linfang, Lu Cheng immediately passed his number to Zhang Tiesheng.

When Zhang Tiesheng heard that Lu Cheng wanted to give him the job of assessing people’s personalities, he couldn’t be more excited and agreed right away.

This meant Lu Cheng regarded him as a true friend, hence thinking about his long-term development, considering it a genuine initial shareholding.

An hour and a half later, Zhang Tiesheng got back to Lu Cheng.

”Lu Cheng, who exactly is that person you gave me the number of? Is he really someone with connections? To me, he just seems like a pure loafer,” Zhang Tiesheng asked.

”What’s the matter, Brother Zhang? You haven’t been manipulated, have you?” Lu Cheng countered.

”Not really, this Xiao Dai, his connections are quite proper, it’s just his personality seems to be fairly simple.”

”He’s the type who’s not very talented but insists on playing around. Without family connections, he might not even thrive in the State Hospital.”

”When it comes to handling social situations, he’s only slightly better than Tian Zhuang, but not much,” Zhang Tiesheng summarized.

Even though Lu Cheng didn’t know how Zhang Tiesheng came to this conclusion, he still chose to trust him: ”As long as you say so, Brother Zhang, that’ll do. The other skills can be evaluated later.”

”It’s shocking enough that a PhD candidate would come to me, wanting to work on a project together!”

”Right? That’s why you’re impressive, Xiao Lu.”

”You don’t need to be shocked, don’t they all hang with Professor Chen?” Zhang Tiesheng chuckled awkwardly.

”Brother Zhang, that’s using each other for mutual benefit,” Lu Cheng replied.

”Oh, Xiao Lu, I told you, socializing requires a point of connection. Even between men and women, there can be such a connection. You gain from my length, I benefit from your softness...”

”Relationships develop over time, right?”

”Are you really sure that your relationship with Professor Chen and Professor Tong is one of equal exchange?” Zhang Tiesheng asked.

Lu Cheng replied, ”My relationship with Professor Tong is quite pure, but with Professor Chen, I’ve always seen him as a teacher.”

Zhang Tiesheng said, ”See? Relationships can change.”

”Someone you love can become less beloved, and people who deal in transactions can become less mercenary.”

Lu Cheng joked, ”Brother Zhang, we can chat casually, but I didn’t ask for an autobiography.”

”What? You damn...” Zhang Tiesheng instantly reacted like a cat whose tail got stepped on.

But Zhang Tiesheng quickly calmed himself, ”No, no, Teacher Lu, you’re the teacher now, I must respect you a bit more.”

”After all, Teacher Lu, with PhD candidates considering joining you, what’s a small bachelor like me?”

Realizing his disadvantage, Lu Cheng conceded, ”Brother Zhang, enough with the jokes! Thanks for all your hard work.”

Zhang Tiesheng remarked, ”These brothers, you’re telling me all this?”

”Xiao Lu, as long as you ask, I’d hesitate even climbing a mountain of knives or diving into a sea of fire, but if you want me to show you around, like those slender waisted beauties...”

Lu Cheng interrupted, ”Brother Zhang, I’ll hang up now! I’m on duty in the ward.”

”Oh, you’re on duty, huh? Then I won’t talk, lest you poke holes in your white coat.”

”Um, Lu Cheng, let me report to you; the suturing skill you asked me to learn, I’ve finally figured it out.”

”Now I can move on to the next step, testing it on some styrofoam boards.”

”But styrofoam is really wild, even a fish in rough water isn’t as wild...” Zhang Tiesheng started joking seriously.

...

In the afternoon, Lu Cheng encountered a patient with popliteal artery injury.

It was the perfect opportunity for Lu Cheng to take action.

However, a popliteal artery open injury, where even a simple local bandage sufficed, wasn’t enough for Lu Cheng to showcase his skills.

Lu Cheng’s intervention, from picking up equipment to completion, took less than ten seconds.

Yet even so, it was enough to leave Xiang Xiaonian’s internal medicine group stunned for quite some time.

The bleeding stopped, and the patient had no other issues.

The surgery that surgical groups could do was the only thing to intervene, because surgery is a specialty; the emergency department is just for saving lives, not treating diseases.
