System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”Uncle, Auntie, Xiao Shu and I will head out now. We’ll come over for dinner again tomorrow night.” After finishing dinner and a walk, Lu Cheng bid farewell to Mu Leng and Yan Sangyue with Mu Nanshu.

Listening to Lu Cheng, Mu Leng’s eyes showed a flash of complexity for just a millisecond, but he quickly replied, ”You focus on your own things. If you’re really too busy, you can just handle dinner on your own.”

Girls can’t be kept at home forever.

Mu Nanshu is already past thirty, a modern woman. Discussing cohabitation before marriage seems pointless.

If these two were going to do anything, they would have done it back in college at eighteen or nineteen.

”Uncle, you don’t think we’re a bother coming here for dinner, do you? Personally, I think it’s great to have a warm, healthy meal at home every day,” Lu Cheng chuckled.

Mu Nanshu rolled her eyes at Lu Cheng, but in her view, Lu Cheng, having spent a long time in Long County, was indeed better at pleasing the elders here than she was.

”That’s not what we mean,” Yan Sangyue promptly responded. ”We’re just worried about delaying your work.”

Lu Cheng said, ”It won’t, Auntie. We can manage our own work schedule.”

”Oh, right, Uncle.”

”I just called my parents. My dad will be visiting my grandma when he celebrates his birthday. If you’re planning to go to Long County, it’s best to call them in advance.”

”I’ll be on duty that day, so I won’t be going back for now,” Lu Cheng explained.

”Alright, I’ll get in touch with him then,” Mu Leng expressed interest in having a drink.

Given his status and position, he could find many people to drink with in Ji City.

But drinking with different people brings different meanings and tastes. If it’s not just casually enjoying the drink, it wouldn’t be pleasant.

Drinking for a purpose is always hard to swallow.

...

Lu Cheng wore a thin cotton pajama with a light gray bathrobe over it, sitting in the study with his feet on the long heated stove.

Tilting his computer sideways, Lu Cheng glanced at Mu Nanshu’s side profile.

Mu Nanshu’s eyelashes were long and slightly curled. When she concentrated on her work, Lu Cheng could clearly see the small brown mole at the corner of her right eye.

She wore her hair in curled bangs and focused intently, seemingly unaware that Lu Cheng was watching her.

This scene persisted for a good twenty minutes before Mu Nanshu glanced at Lu Cheng several times and finally said, ”Are you done?”

”Yeah, I’ve finished reading the papers I downloaded recently. Seeing you so focused, I didn’t want to disturb you.”

”Are you going to be busy for much longer? It’s still early, how about ordering a milk tea as a treat?” Lu Cheng suggested.

Lu Cheng had bought two portions of pickled vegetables, and when Mu Nanshu ate at home, she only took one portion, leaving the rest for a late-night snack.

Tea and milk tea go well together in winter, tempting Mu Nanshu immediately. But she hesitated, ”I’m worried I won’t be able to sleep tonight.”

Lu Cheng nodded, ”You always sleep soundly, though.”

Mu Nanshu blushed and instantly understood what Lu Cheng meant: ”With that time, why not focus on your papers and try writing a meta-analysis to improve your writing skills?”

”Otherwise, you’ll suffer losses in the future, as no one else can help you with this.”

Lu Cheng said, ”I know what I’m doing. I’ll go ahead and order the milk tea then.”

”Oh, and one more piece of good news. While I was reviewing papers, I discovered my clinical direction.”

Mu Nanshu’s body trembled slightly.

Not because she had ulterior motives, but because she was simply shocked by Lu Cheng’s prolific output.

Since Lu Cheng developed the tendon suturing technique, not only have papers on tendon suturing yet to be published, but methods for spleen, vascular, and nerve suturing have gradually emerged.

A few days ago, Professor Chen Song got completely absorbed by liver suturing techniques and liver preservation surgery.

Though Mu Nanshu always had ”confidence” in her boyfriend, she never expected Lu Cheng to be so relentless.

How could a sow compare to Lu Cheng?

In terms of reproductive output, a boar is immortal: ”What?”

Mu Nanshu had never fought such a well-provisioned battle before. Now, she’s so wealthy she’s at a loss!

She simply couldn’t keep up with Lu Cheng’s pace.

”Trauma!~”

”I might have to return to my original specialty for a while,” Lu Cheng said.

Mu Nanshu knew about Lu Cheng’s clinical challenges. At State People’s Hospital, although closer to the research group, facilitating discussion, Lu Cheng’s clinical workload was much less than in Long County.

The limitations were greater, and the structure more rigid!

”Care to elaborate?” Mu Nanshu asked.

”There’s not much to say, really. Just the most challenging aspect of trauma treatment—the management of mutilating injuries.”

”However, when I refer to trauma, I don’t just mean orthopedic trauma surgery, but comprehensive trauma centers, including but not limited to limb trauma,” Lu Cheng explained.

With her medical background, Mu Nanshu instantly grasped the term ”mutilating injuries,” though it stirred memories, causing her face to pale slightly.

It seemed to conjure up images of mutilating injuries in her mind (ps: don’t get curious and search it up, take my advice).

”That must be difficult, right?” Mu Nanshu’s delicate brows furrowed.

”It’s challenging, but mistakes are part of the process.”

”Trauma is encountered everywhere, and hospitals of all levels may encounter any kind of trauma.”

”For major trauma, current treatments are palliative, including but not limited to amputation.”

”Besides limb mutilating injuries, there’s also abdominal mutilating injuries, where the current approach is more conservative, prioritizing life-saving measures like resection when possible.”
