System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”But in my view, the core of functional reconstruction still lies in the basic techniques of hand surgery, which is fundamentally based on the Suturing Skill, the most essential aspect.”

”We often say that suturing is a reconstruction of life’s order.”

”Function is certainly one aspect of life’s order, so if functional reconstruction is to be done well, suturing is inevitably the key.”

”Surgical Techniques centered on debridement can achieve seventy to eighty points, but those centered on suturing can potentially score over ninety.”

”This also illustrates some of the disagreements and branches in the academic circle regarding the research and development philosophy of functional reconstruction surgery. Currently, no one can convince others which direction is better.”

Upon hearing this, Lu Cheng instantly felt he shouldn’t underestimate this gossip-loving Professor Xie. He made progress by retreating, guided by questions.

It seemed like a persuasion, but in fact, he had already brought Mu Nanshu and himself into the situation.

If the two of them participated in the discussion, it would indirectly hand over the initiative.

Mu Nanshu was deep in thought and had already spoken, but Lu Cheng interrupted forcefully: ”Professor Xie, the issues you’re talking about are perhaps what we might discuss after we’re done talking today.”

”I’m currently an emergency department doctor.”

”I have my own projects to work on, including but not limited to Spleen Preservation Surgery and other life-saving surgical projects.”

Xie Xiao’s expression remained calm: ”Xiao Lu, healing the sick and saving lives, there’s no such thing as high or low status.”

Lu Cheng replied: ”But there is priority.”

”Functional reconstruction surgery might not be done well, the patient might not live that well, but they won’t die. They won’t lose their organs.”

Xie Xiao had his own philosophy and medical understanding: ”An organ with dysfunctional function is harder to accept than losing it.”

”Death is not the most terrifying thing.”

The torment and pain of life being worse than death are indeed more unbearable than straightforward death.

Lu Cheng, having spent many years in orthopedics, knew this very well.

Upon hearing this, Lu Cheng remained silent for a while before saying: ”Professor Xie, I’m just a young man. I don’t have such high sentiments nor such deep understanding.”

”For me, what I should do is to grasp whatever I can, be realistic.”

”For me, what’s more important now is to get on the right track and add some objective endorsements recognized by others, such as projects and articles.”

”I’ve long passed the age where I can talk about sentiments.”

Mu Nanshu, after hearing this, although knowing Lu Cheng was mentioning bargaining chips, still had a sparkle in her eyes.

Love doesn’t always have to be heart-wrenching, nor deeply felt only if unattainable. Plain and mundane daily trivialities can also be unforgettable for life.

The more bits and pieces accumulate, the harder it is to let go of them, and they touch deeply.

Even the most heart-wrenching and everlasting love is merely those moments; in reality, what constitutes love and all emotions are just the daily life.

Between Mu Nanshu and Lu Cheng, there’s no misunderstanding and not much estrangement; the only regret might be being too young, thinking that when things didn’t follow the set ”path,” the sky seemed to have fallen.

However, in hindsight after calmly reflecting for several years, it all seems somewhat amusing.

Yet to Mu Nanshu, Lu Cheng remains excellent, deserving of better, but somehow, Lu Cheng’s luck always seemed insufficient...

Xie Xiao smiled and said: ”Lu Cheng, Xie Yuan’an isn’t mature, perhaps Mu Nanshu doesn’t know your inner thoughts either because she hasn’t reached certain positions and gone through certain experiences.”

”But I’m sure that Lu Cheng, with your original techniques, although relatively detached, you still want to piece them together, don’t you?”

Lu Cheng’s eyes flashed, further realizing that Professor Xie Xiao shouldn’t be judged by his seemingly thick and honest appearance.

Of course, Lu Cheng didn’t rebut.

”Xiao Lu, have you ever thought that true functional reconstruction surgery might not be the so-called functional reconstruction surgery in hand surgery?”

”If it’s about functional reconstruction surgery in hand surgery, more cautiously, shouldn’t we name it Motor Function Reconstruction Surgery?”

”Motion function governed by muscles and nerves is certainly function. Does spleen function count as function? Does liver’s metabolic function count as function?”

Xie Xiao undoubtedly had keen insight, or perhaps, at his position, having experienced a lot, he had undergone the hesitations Lu Cheng was currently facing.

Thus, naturally, he immediately grasped Lu Cheng’s psyche.

”What is the essence of function?”

”The essence of function is that it has no essence, only differentiated by different categories of function.”

”Our body’s functions can roughly be broken down into several fundamental elements.”

”Organ function, motor function, can indeed be converted into organ function.”

Xie Xiao emphasized: ”And according to modern medical research, the realization of function requires an actual carrier, central control, and conduction pathways.”

”As long as these basic elements are met, they conform to function regulation and release.”

”Including what many hospitals are doing, like the brain-machine pathways for spinal injury patients, in fact, they’re addressing the conduction pathways for function!”

”And the reconstruction of this conductive pathway is also a component of functional reconstruction surgery.”

”Motor function is just one aspect of function.”

Lu Cheng couldn’t help but sincerely admire Professor Xie Xiao’s vast knowledge: ”Teacher Xie, your understanding is very profound, much more than I know.”

Lu Cheng only had a vague idea, but due to limited learning, he couldn’t analyze it so thoroughly.
