System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Du Qiang didn’t have time to correct the issues in Lu Cheng’s words. As he reminisced about the surgery, he marveled, ”This surgical operation is both precise and ingenious—truly remarkable!~”

Zeng Huanqi also nodded frequently, ”It looks satisfying, yet thinking about it, it feels complex and incredible...”

Of course, the praises from Du Qiang and Zeng Huanqi didn’t stir the slightest ripple in Lu Cheng’s heart.

What Du Qiang called ingenious and what Zeng Huanqi termed as complex and incredible didn’t fully encapsulate the entirety of the operation’s completeness.

If Du Qiang and Zeng Huanqi found it unimpressive, then it would mean Professor Chen was at fault, lacking judgment and vision.

It was exactly as expected.

Du Qiang and Lu Cheng stepped off the platform, while Zeng Huanqi was responsible for transferring the patient from the operating room back to the ward.

...

As they exited the operating room, Du Qiang and Lu Cheng happened to encounter Executive Luo, the deputy chief physician of orthopedics.

Executive Luo said, ”Director Du.”

When he saw Lu Cheng, he was slightly surprised and couldn’t speak for a moment.

What Du Qiang did in the department wasn’t for public display or to boast.

Du Qiang simply wanted to accomplish tasks, not to showcase his ’skills’ and ’coin’ attributes.

Having some understanding of Lu Cheng, Du Qiang knew about the longstanding grudges between Lu Cheng and Executive Luo, although he wasn’t sure if Lu Cheng had resolved his grievances with Executive Luo. Nonetheless, Du Qiang politely said, ”Director Luo, let me formally introduce him to you.”

”This is Dr. Lu Cheng, an expert I invited from the State People’s Hospital for a consultative surgery.”

Executive Luo was an old acquaintance of Lu Cheng’s, as Lu Cheng had spent over four years in orthopedics. His eyes widened, pupils constricted, and he appeared somewhat flabbergasted.

Clearly, the expert as mentioned by Du Qiang made him somewhat uncomfortable.

Lu Cheng glanced at Du Qiang with slight reproach and immediately said, ”Good afternoon, Director Luo.”

With the two surgeries completed, the time had already reached two-thirty in the afternoon.

Barring any surprises, Du Qiang should hand him the consultancy fee, and after a simple meal, Lu Cheng would head for Ji City.

”You’re good too.” Executive Luo shook his head as he came back to his senses, ”Wait, Lu Cheng?”

”What is happening here?”

Lu Cheng jokingly rubbed his nose, ”I was invited by Director Du to visit my hometown.”

Executive Luo had previously not taken Lu Cheng seriously, but it wasn’t that he didn’t consider Lu Cheng a ’figure’. After understanding Lu Cheng better, he found a relatively better solution.

Moreover, Executive Luo also wanted to lure Lu Cheng back to orthopedics, but Lu Cheng refused.

Executive Luo wasn’t clueless; after a bit of thinking, he understood the love-hate script between Du Qiang and Lu Cheng.

But everyone here was a seasoned fox; that’s why Executive Luo felt the script between Lu Cheng and Du Qiang seemed flawless.

Du Qiang’s son had been implicated; no matter how sinister Du Qiang was, he couldn’t possibly use his son as a pawn, right?

However, if you really think about it, whether Du Qiang’s son was implicated or not had nothing to do with Lu Cheng. Lu Cheng wasn’t the one who assaulted anyone.

Hence, Du Qiang did indeed have remarkable means, employing talent without being constrained by the conventional understanding of ’grudges’.

”Hello, Dr. Lu.” As the director of orthopedics at the County Hospital, Executive Luo naturally could choose to disregard Lu Cheng, but now, Lu Cheng could also disregard him.

At least Executive Luo couldn’t directly affect Lu Cheng’s normal work and personnel rights; Executive Luo was not Lu Cheng’s director.

”I have another consultation to attend; I’ll go over to check on that first.” Executive Luo had an urgent consultation to attend to.

He was new in leadership and didn’t dare to act too recklessly by avoiding urgent consultations.

Only after becoming a director did he realize how heavy the pressure of the position was.

...

As Du Qiang drove Lu Cheng out of the hospital, he said, ”Actually, Xiao Lu, it would be a good choice if you could follow Executive Luo back to orthopedics.”

Without any outsiders present, Lu Cheng spoke candidly.

Du Qiang was a petty person, but also a genuine petty one, who spoke openly about everything he did in front of his own parents, Uncle Du, and Wei Ying.

Lu Cheng said, ”Uncle Du, in this world, there are plenty of good choices.”

”Following Professor Chen Song to Xiangya Second Hospital, or following Professor Tong Yuan’an to study for a PhD at Xiangya Hospital, are all good choices.”

”But I have my own plans and direction!~”

Du Qiang knew about Lu Cheng’s matters: ”Indeed, childhood sweethearts, an innocent bond.”

”The feelings between you and Xiao Mu are quite enviable. It’s quite good.”

”By the way, remember to remind your Uncle Du to urge Professor Chen to come down sooner, so we can get the project running routinely, and I can learn some techniques through this project.”

”Even if I can only give one main lecture at a provincial academic conference, it will make things a lot easier for me in the hospital.”

Du Qiang had his own goals and ideas.

In Du Qiang’s opinion, Chen Song’s animal experiment project didn’t need to be too detailed; the important thing was to bring the project to Long County People’s Hospital as soon as possible.

The benefits to Du Qiang were only a small portion of the clinical project.

”Alright, I will speak to Professor Chen. Uncle Du.” Lu Cheng replied.

”Don’t find it too little.” Du Qiang said.

Lu Cheng laughed, ”Certainly not, Uncle Du, you’ve already given quite a lot.”

Two surgeries amounted to fourteen hundred yuan, with four hundred as travel expenses, equating to five hundred yuan per surgery.

Compared to top-tier consultation surgeries, the payment was subpar.

But for Lu Cheng, it wasn’t actually little, as generally, what qualifications did an attending physician have to perform consultative surgeries?

If Du Qiang hadn’t invited him, no other hospitals would have known Lu Cheng.

It could be considered a side income: ”It’s fine, Uncle Du, actually, just covering the travel expenses would suffice.”
