System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”Being a doctor is a lifelong career, take it slow, there’s no rush.”

Mu Nanshu suddenly felt the pressure from Lu Cheng’s palm, quickly slipped out of his embrace, and turned off the light: ”Let’s sleep.”

Lu Cheng said, ”Come closer, I’m a bit cold.”

”Like I’d believe you... mmm... mmm...” Mu Nanshu’s mouth was blocked, and her speech started to slur.

Everything that followed was only natural.

A single man and a single woman, alone in one room.

Winter rains in spring...

...

The next day, Lu Cheng and Mu Nanshu both slept in.

Mu Nanshu was woken up by a phone call; it was Xie Yuan’an, who hadn’t found Nanshu in the laboratory and was calling to hurry her up.

At eight thirty, Mu Nanshu immediately sat up, answering the phone and then quickly got out of bed to wash up.

Lu Cheng wasn’t idle either; he hurried downstairs to buy breakfast.

The rice noodles in Ji City have always been quite tasty, though they can clump easily, so Lu Cheng packed two bowls to take back.

Both were double servings with eggs. After setting them on the dining table, Lu Cheng said, ”You eat first, I’ll go tidy up a bit.”

Hearing this, Mu Nanshu’s rosy cheeks became even more translucent. She rolled her eyes at Lu Cheng and continued patting her face proudly, trying to conceal her color.

It wasn’t until Lu Cheng had left for the dining room that Mu Nanshu said, ”You should prepare something, using external birth control isn’t good.”

”And it’s not safe.”

”Later, you’ll need to wash the sheets. I just ordered a special cleaner for bloodstains from takeout.”

”Okay! At your command!~” Lu Cheng sat across from Mu Nanshu somewhat sheepishly, seriously observing her features.

Mu Nanshu’s eyebrows weren’t particularly distinctive, the natural kind. Her face was an oval shape, wider at the top and tapering down, but without the sharp, exaggerated curves of cosmetic enhancement.

Her peach blossom eyes had a hint of allure, and she had tied her hair into a ponytail to make it easier to eat breakfast.

”Why not take a day off, say we need to go shopping?” Lu Cheng suggested.

Lu Cheng wasn’t a girl, he had only heard that it could be painful the first time. Actually, he was feeling a bit ’sore’ himself now...

The two were planning to get engaged after the new year; the date had been set for the sixth day of the first lunar month.

”What’s there to buy for an engagement? Are you trying to cover it up? Let’s just act like everything’s normal.”

”It’s not as exaggerated as they say.”

”Don’t laugh!~” Mu Nanshu suddenly raised her voice.

Lu Cheng quickly straightened his face, though his eyes remained gentle.

...

After Mu Nanshu left, Lu Cheng stayed at home to wash the sheets, first soaking them, then hand-washing, and finally putting them in the washing machine.

The washing machine was all-in-one, washing and drying done in one go.

When Lu Cheng placed the duvet cover back on the master bed, the phone rang just in time.

”Hello, is this Dr. Lu Cheng? I’m Zhao Ling from the publicity department!~” a gentle feminine voice came from the other end of the line, seemingly young.

”Hello, Teacher Zhao, I’m Lu Cheng from the emergency department.” Lu Cheng sat on the sofa, picking up a cup of tea he had brewed for himself.

Lu Cheng had the evening shift today, starting work at 5:30 PM.

”Dr. Lu, the thing is, the publicity department from Feng County contacted us today, specifically mentioning that they wanted to express their gratitude to you.”

”They also reached out to us to see if we could arrange a simple interview with you if convenient.”

”Our department’s leaders, after hearing the whole story, also felt it was worth promoting this positive energy.” Zhao Ling’s tone was particularly polite.

At the time, although Lu Cheng hadn’t officially joined, his records had already been sent to the State People’s Hospital.

While vacationing, a hospital doctor encountered an accident and didn’t hesitate for a moment, rushing to the scene. This incident had already been discussed within a small circle.

The hospital’s publicity department recognized it as a great promotional topic.

Not every video of a doctor saving lives could easily go viral on major platforms.

Medicine doesn’t boast, Lu Cheng merely acted without hesitation, and it wasn’t considered worthy of extensive promotion, so it hadn’t gone viral.

However, publishing a small article within their internal public account was quite fitting.

”Right now? Teacher Zhao?”

”Actually, it wasn’t much. I didn’t do anything significant at the scene. Just what any medical professional should do.” Lu Cheng was a bit embarrassed.

Zhao Ling chuckled lightly, ”In an emergency, meeting the most professional person doing their job may seem unremarkable.”

”But it genuinely saved the patient’s life.”

”Dr. Lu, if it’s convenient for you, could you come over now or later this afternoon? The representatives from Feng County’s publicity department will be arriving soon. We’d like to conduct a brief interview with you first.”

”But considering the sensitive nature of this case, whether it can be published ultimately depends on our leaders’ decision.”

”Nonetheless, it’s good to be prepared,” Zhao Ling remained courteous.

She noted beforehand that the interview might not lead to anything.

”Alright, Teacher Zhao, I’ll head over right now.” Lu Cheng didn’t put on any airs.

Whether or not it’s published, it wouldn’t affect him negatively.

Although the situation was quite severe and sensitive, Lu Cheng wasn’t the instigator; he happened to be there and lent a hand to save some people.

...

When Lu Cheng arrived at the publicity department, he saw some leaders from the State People’s Hospital, though only those from the publicity department; the deputy directors weren’t present.

The questions during the interview were relatively straightforward, mainly inquiring about Lu Cheng’s purpose for visiting Feng County and his reactions during the incident.

The interview didn’t last long, involving only a written interview and a photo, without any video recording.
