System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

When Zhang Tiesheng was dumbfounded, Lu Cheng was greatly surprised: ”Director Du, is this true? How come I haven’t heard about it?”

Du Qiang replied: ”Whether you can know about this depends on who the person causing the trouble is.”

”Forget it, let’s not talk about it. It’s just a chance encounter with such people.”

”No one can be sure they won’t show up at the State Hospital or some County Hospital; there are plenty of people with mental issues.”

”Just look at that car crash in Feng County.”

When Du Qiang mentioned this, he suddenly remembered the report he saw: ”Hey, Xiao Lu, weren’t you there when that incident happened in Feng County?”

Lu Cheng said: ”Director Du, don’t bring it up. At that time, I was just two moments away from being taken away, and Professor Tong Yuan’an was supposed to be at Feng County for leisure, he was slightly less lucky, just half a moment away.”

”Had his limbs not been agile, we might have had a funeral banquet already.”

In retrospect, Lu Cheng still feels a lingering fear.

That kind of indiscriminate attack made Lu Cheng realize that in front of a car, no matter how formidable a person is, they’re just soft tofu, completely unable to toughen up.

If you get hit, even if you don’t die, you’d be finished for life.

”Your luck was really quite unlucky. So it’s better to stay away from the commotion.” Zhang Tiesheng also recalled that there was a report about Lu Cheng saving people at the scene.

But as a fellow practitioner, Zhang Tiesheng, putting himself in Lu Cheng’s shoes, figured his choice would definitely be to steer clear.

In case the driver returned, being there saving people might lead to staying there permanently.

Perhaps accustomed to life and death in the ER, Zhang Tiesheng feels few things matter more than one’s life, and those sorts of honors certainly don’t count.

”But at least you received some compensation. Let’s just think positively.” Zhang Tiesheng said.

After Zhang Tiesheng finished speaking, Lu Cheng bowed his hands slightly and looked at Du Qiang: ”Director Du, thank you. If Professor Chen Song hadn’t privately explained to me earlier, I wouldn’t have known that you helped me so much before.”

Du Qiang heard this and rolled his eyes: ”Come on, Xiao Lu, your schemes are your schemes, why involve me?”

”People can be hypocritical, but they shouldn’t be overly hypocritical, treating everyone with insincerity.”

”There are times for picking peaches, but you must see how the peach tree is structured and where it’s located! I don’t have as many thoughts as you imagine.”

Lu Cheng simply smiled: ”Well, I still want to thank you, Director Du.”

Lu Cheng didn’t mention that all these were Mu Nanshu’s ideas behind the scenes, without which he wouldn’t have thought so much before.

Zhang Tiesheng wouldn’t allow himself to be confused and feeling a slight sense of ’importance’, he quickly asked: ”Huh, huh, huh? Director Du, my Brother Lu, you two stop playing dumb.”

Du Qiang said: ”Lu Cheng is quite clever...”

”His project, with Long County as the center, draws the flag of Union Hospital in the north, and Xiangya Hospital and Xiangya Second Hospital as the banner in the south. In this way, at least people outside the health system in our state wouldn’t dare mess around, right?”

Zhang Tiesheng nodded: ”This project spans the province, so naturally, it’s not something to meddle with unless you want to be a laughingstock.”

”If this joke becomes big, then the ones losing face might be the provincial leaders.”

If relatives of other leaders in Xiangzhou snatch the top hospital’s project peaches from the neighboring province, would the neighboring province consent?

Du Qiang continued: ”Secondly, Lu Cheng sets the clinical project in our Long County, and now he’s a doctor at the State People’s Hospital.”

”If offspring from the State People’s Hospital want to come to Long County, a strong dragon cannot suppress a local serpent. If others at the County Hospital want to interfere?”

”Where would they derive the authority from?”

Zhang Tiesheng suddenly realized: ”Oh, oh, so that’s why Lu Cheng went to take the selection exam?”

Lu Cheng shook his head: ”That wasn’t it, Brother Zhang, when I went to take the selection exam, I hadn’t thought that far.”

”It was only after finishing the animal tests and deciding the clinical project site that I considered these.”

”Some people did reach out to me, but I refused them all.”

”Including you, Brother Zhang.” Lu Cheng spoke directly.

Du Qiang immediately turned his head towards Zhang Tiesheng, his eyes teasing.

Zhang Tiesheng was somewhat intimidated by Du Qiang, displaying a slightly fearful expression. Not fully understanding the complex relationship between Lu Cheng and Du Qiang, he quickly explained: ”Director Du, I was just asking casually.”

”No worries, everyone deals with their own matters.” Du Qiang smiled brightly:

”If you can collaborate with Xiao Lu, it wouldn’t be letting outsiders benefit.”

Zhang Tiesheng looked at Lu Cheng somewhat grudgingly, complaining about how Lu Cheng spoke about everything outside.

He hurriedly changed the topic: ”Xiao Lu, who else approached you?”

”There are ones I know, and others I don’t. Most are looking to attach their names, and it’s only recently, over the past half month, that I’ve realized the relationships at the State People’s Hospital are truly intricate.”

”From reaching the provincial office to the village committee in our hometown, Zhao Market Town village.” Lu Cheng answered with a faint smile.

”You’re really firm, Lu Cheng, rejecting them all from top to bottom.” Zhang Tiesheng said with a gloomy tone.

Lu Cheng said: ”I had my wife and her senior sister reject for me.”

Mu Nanshu is an associate researcher at Union Hospital, and Xie Yuan’an is an associate researcher in hand surgery. Since they don’t mingle in Xiang Province, they weren’t afraid to offend anyone.

As for whether they would hinder the project in case they considered Mu Nanshu and Xie Yuan’an as outsiders, that was even less likely.

Relationships are intricate, and just having connections doesn’t guarantee absolute power.

Aren’t Tong Yuan’an and Chen Song still here?
