System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

However, this kind of ability is said to be innate, you either have it or you don’t, and it can’t be learned repeatedly after birth!

There are also those who suddenly become enlightened through intuition, but the chances are very, very small.

Lu Cheng shook his head and said, ”Director Xiao, I don’t even know how I learned it myself.”

”Alright!~” Xiao Zhaoxi wasn’t too upset this time since it wasn’t the first time he experienced such disappointment.

”The business in our hospital’s emergency surgery is emergency rescue, and besides that, the tasks assigned by the hospital are just minor debridement.”

”It’s like dealing with two extremes.”

”But actually, all in all, the pressure is not small either.”

”Whether a hospital’s death rate is high or low is determined by the ICU and the emergency department. If a hospital’s comprehensive ability is strong or not, it’s also determined by the emergency department.”

”Over at Union Hospital, there’s a two to three percent mortality rate.”

”So, you have to gradually get used to patients not being saved.” Xiao Zhaoxi was slowly preparing Lu Cheng psychologically.

The two to three percent mortality rate at Union Hospital is the rate of the number of patients treated.

The death rate at State People’s Hospital might be around four to five percent, and if luck is bad on a certain day, it might even rise to ten percent.

Lu Cheng was silent.

State People’s Hospital is the top hospital in Xiangzhou, without referral opportunities, unlike Long County People’s Hospital, where patients who can’t be treated have no chance of being referred.

Therefore, when Lu Cheng was on duty, he also encountered deaths.

There were deaths in the resuscitation room, and also on the gurney, some had Lu Cheng performing external cardiac compressions on them, while others died at the emergency department entrance before Lu Cheng could even get a glimpse of them.

If such patients were at Long County People’s Hospital, the way to handle it might be: we can’t save them here, quickly transfer them.

The emergency department at State People’s Hospital doesn’t have this ’protective charm’!

Lu Cheng quietly followed Xiao Zhaoxi to room 8 and, unsurprisingly, saw a group of people performing chest compressions.

But it was merely symbolic chest compressions.

When the two entered, it was already near the end, and a director and deputy chief anesthesiologist coldly announced:

”January 18, 2024, 00:36:35, resuscitation efforts failed, patient died, cause of death, traumatic hemorrhagic shock...”

The circulating nurse was quickly filling out the death certificate.

The anesthesiologist was calling the morgue to have them come over anytime to collect the body.

After Director Xiao arrived, the specialist doctor said, ”Director Xiao, the resuscitation failed for the patient, let’s go outside together to explain the situation to the family.”

”Alright!~” Xiao Zhaoxi nodded calmly.

But he habitually took a glance at the patient’s face; the patient’s lips had lost all color.

The patient was already dead, and since Lu Cheng wasn’t the on-duty doctor, his task was considered complete.

Lu Cheng stepped out with Xiao Zhaoxi and said, ”Director Xiao, I have to be on duty tomorrow, should I leave first?”

Xiao Zhaoxi nodded, ”Okay, you go back and rest. I’ll handle things here.”

Xiao Zhaoxi had asked Lu Cheng to come for resuscitation assistance, not to handle routine issues in the ward.

Of course, since Lu Cheng was on standby today, calling him was reasonable.

...

The night passed without incident. Early the next morning, Lu Cheng and Mu Nanshu both got up early, went out for breakfast together, and then each drove to their ’workplace’!

”I’m on day shift today, so I should be able to get off work on time. I’ll go grocery shopping then, and you can take a break.” Lu Cheng said as they got in separate cars.

”We’ll see when the time comes. Our tasks today aren’t heavy; we might be off by 4 o’clock.”

”There might be a team dinner today, I’ll let you know about the specifics later.”

”Being full-time in research can be quite free sometimes.” Mu Nanshu laughed.

The so-called team dinner is a typical group-building activity. It’s a normal arrangement and can further deepen relationships and increase teamwork cooperation.

”Which team dinner?” Lu Cheng asked.

”Of course, it’s with Professor Tong. Professor Chen Song is very busy.” Mu Nanshu replied.

”Okay, good!” Lu Cheng nodded.

When Lu Cheng arrived at the emergency department, it was already 7:50 AM.

Although he was a bit late, it wasn’t exactly tardy.

Lu Cheng was on day shift in the ward, and although he had to handle medical record writing, he didn’t have to worry about blood test results during rounds as the night shift doctor followed up on all the test results and assisted the senior doctors in conducting the rounds.

Liang Jianhong and Tian Zhiliang were in the same clinical team, so all Lu Cheng needed to do was follow along and record the medical orders.

There were only three inpatients under the surgery team’s management, and all of them were going to be discharged today.

After rounds, Lu Cheng chuckled to himself, ”If all are discharged today, Brother Kai swapped shifts with me at a loss.”

Lu Cheng originally had a day shift on Friday, but since he went to Sha City for a training session on Friday, he swapped a full shift rotation with Xiang Kai.

”You have to complete discharge medical records for the patients being discharged, so technically Xiang Kai didn’t lose out.”

”The day shift in the ward is just about these few things; we’re all brothers, it doesn’t matter.” After Liang Jianhong finished speaking, he looked to Tian Zhiliang and said:

”Director Tian, last night, Xiao Lu took off again.”

”Director Wu in orthopedics came to ask specifically about him after stepping down from the stage.”

”What’s the issue?” Tian Zhiliang asked with a smile.

Tian Zhiliang was on second-string duty today, so he stayed in the department to be on standby.

”I heard it was about pelvic hematoma; Director Wu in orthopedics couldn’t find the bleeding site, but Lu Cheng sorted everything out quickly, in less than five minutes.”
